I wonder how many of the above are due to sets not being in the right place because of the Altandi track fault? If that is the case, why don't they just say so?  :fp: :fp: :fp:

Queensland Rail / TransLink really need to lift their communications.

https://twitter.com/lucy_anthony/status/875898339300003840

If there is an issue rather than hiding behind ' operational issue ' spell it out for fuk sake.  They are their own worst enemy.

Good example from earlier in the day:

these QR issues are presenting Brisbane in a VERY bad manner to tourists. Apart from track shutdowns and delays like this on weekends....which inconveniences many tourists between bris/gold coast.....a lot of passengers are also arriving into Brisbane on the Friday and doing a shop at skygate....only to be fed into Toombul and its 30minute inbound frequency due to lacklustre differential timetabling.

The biggest issue is TransLink and there reasons why delays there are delays as if you look at the posts from qr and TransLink it's just a repost from tranlinks posts where qr just said that the issues at altandi are causing delays on the rest of the network

ozbob

It really is time this communications chronic failure is sorted,  once and for all.

1.  As soon as there is confirmation of a major delay event eg. dewirement or what ever send out messages on Twitter, Facebook and Website stating that there is a major issue at X and there will ongoing service interruptions.

2.  Ban the term ' operational issue ' in service disruptions tell it as it is.

3.  Immediate statement to media by Queensland Rail so that proactive media can be done.

' Operational issue ' does not explain the cause of delays/cancellations

Greetings,

Mr Nick Easy CEO Queensland Rail on 4BC Radio the other day indicated that he wants communications to improve.

How about TransLink and Queensland Rail  detail succinctly actual cause of delays in all cases.

The reason ' Operational issue ',  is very vague and just causes angst.

' Operational issue ' is a nice meaningless way of telling passengers they're not important enough to know the real reason behind the cancellation and/or delay.

It is understood that a person struck by a train needs some care, but surely most of the other situations can be clearly spelled out?

Some suggestions:

Locomotive failure.

Train failure.

Derailment.

Sick passenger.

Sick crew.

Person struck by train.

Bridge strike.

Level crossing / boom gate strike.

Signal fault.

Track fault.

Points failure.

Telemetry fault.

Rostering problem.

Trespasser in corridor.

Police incident.

Power failure.

Vegetation on line.

Vehicle on line.

Broken rail.

Broken wheel.

And so forth ...

Thanks.

Best wishes
Robert

Must of been a serious fault to have the line closed for the rest of the working timetable today between those stations. Manual PA announcements here at Roma Street now regarding bus replacement services between Yerongpilly and Kingston.
What amazes me that line was closed down just recently on a few weekends for maintenance.

I read elsewhere on social media (unofficial) that there was a train on fire at Altandi. Who knows though.

Haven't heard that, but I think if Queensland Rail did what Sydney Trains does when major incident, it really helps to communicate the issue and folks better understand the delays etc.  Take a quick pic and post it.

Couriermail --> Train delays across southeast Queensland

Translink have cited "operational issues" for the reason for the cancellations.

Bus services have been put in place at affected train stations.

Queensland Rail CEO Nick Easy said crews are currently working to repair "extensive overhead line damage" on the Beenleigh line.

"At approximately 7am this morning, overhead line equipment tripped as a train traversed a section of track on the Beenleigh line.

"The damage to the line is significant, including a dewirement across a 2.1km section of track," he said.

Mr Easy said buses have replaced trains between Kingston and Yeerongpilly stations and commuters are experiencing delays of up to an hour on this route.

"All available resources are on hand and working as quickly as possible to undertake these necessary repairs.

"We are working hard to complete the repairs through to tomorrow (Sunday 18 June)," he said.

Mr Easy said the issue has caused some service disruptions across the rest of the network, including 10 cancellations or partial cancellations on other lines.

Communications still a problem with Queensland Rail and TransLink

Good Morning,

Major disruption to the SEQ rail network with a significant dewirement on the Gold Coast/Beenleigh line yesterday.

Dewirements happen from time to time on any overhead traction system.  We do however have ongoing concerns however with the communications from TransLink and Queensland Rail yesterday

It was many hours before the travelling public could grasp the significance of the dewirement.  TransLink issuing service disruptions with ' operational reason ' as the cause is frankly, frustrating, and misleading.

These things should be standard policy from here:

1.  As soon as there is confirmation of a major delay event e.g. dewirement or what ever, send out messages on Twitter, Facebook and Websites stating that there is a major issue at X, a brief but accurate description, and there will be ongoing service interruptions. Replacement transport arranged etc.

2.  Ban the term ' operational issue ' in any service disruptions tell it as it is.

' Operational issue ' is a meaningless way of telling passengers they're not important enough to know the real reason behind the cancellation and/or delay.

3. Immediate statement to media by Queensland Rail so that proactive media can be done. Rather than reactive as is now the usual case.

Best wishes,
Robert
