There are clearly some management issues within Queensland Rail, however the problem is a lot bigger than QR per se.

TMR clearly has not got a clue when it comes to heavy rail.  We really need a proper authority such as the PTA WA with a heavy rail division.  Under which the operator Queensland Rail would sit.  Queensland Rail staff (below rail) would sit within the heavy rail division of PTQ (Public Transport Queensland).  Nothing much will really improve with the present misfit collection of silos, blurred responsibilities, and frank incompetence.

I'm fully aware of that, I'm just getting tired of people getting all anti-QR and muckracking them when it's far more complex than that.

Also, TMR really should not go near rail operations and rail construction with a ten foot barge pole.

The Citytrain Response Unit has been tasked to look at the best organisational model for public transport.  It is our best hope ..  :-t

Why a back-up battery and not a generator?

All good till the diesel runs out and there is no warning  :-r

Batteries are likely lower maintenance and can be solar powered. Hospital gen sets are routinely checked and still fail (Mater hospital in the last few years I think?)

I think we can all agree that we needed PTQ yesterday.

We should not get hung up on whether failure can be attributed to QR, to TMR, to Opposition or to anyone else, or any other entity.  RESPONSIBILITY to fix the mess rests with the government of the day.  That is where the focus must lie.  The entities involved, and their performance, rests with the government and the Minister, under Westminster tradition.  It must act and the Minister must show leadership.

Why a back-up battery and not a generator?  Most hospitals have a generator wired to kick-in when the power fails?   :fp:

So, we have driver shortage FAIL from QR
NGR FAIL
Construction FAIL (Redcliffe Peninsula Line problems)
Track, rolling stock FAIL (numerous cancellations due to track fault, signals problems or train mechanical issues)
Now, Communications FAIL
Sounds like a failure of management at QR.
What next?
Generally with that type of setup, there is an airconditioned hut with an (A) and a (B) power supply, it's likely the hut A/C failed or tripped, then one power supply tripped on over temp then the remaining power supply held on until it too tripped, with no alarms back to base to say what is going on, the first they knew about it was when the radios wouldn't work, poor show that it took 90 mins to get someone up there.
