There are serious issues with the public transport in SEQ.  Despite highlighting these issues for many years now, and providing constructive solutions, not much happens to improve the constant disruptions.

Bridge strikes

A Transport for Brisbane (BCC) bus, off route, strikes the railway bridge at Graceville yesterday 31st October 2023. This highlights the sad state of affairs. Major disruptions on the Citytrain network ensue.  13 reported service disruptions to this incident alone. We have been highlighting this issue, with solutions, for over 15 years.

Lift outages

Many passengers are dependent on lifts for access to public transport. It has been disturbing the number of reported lift outages. When lifts are not in service, passengers dependent on the lifts are usually denied convenient access to public transport. Most of the rail and bus stations do not have compliant ramps. The number of reported lift outages for October 2023 was 40.
https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?msg=276165

Reported bus service disruptions

The average daily Translink reported bus service disruptions (Queensland) for October was 82. There is a constant stream of bus service cancellations due to a lack of bus drivers.  We hear not much about what Government and Translink are doing to get the bus network back on a reliable footing.
https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=15341.0

Reported Citytrain service disruptions

There were 268 reported Citytrain service disruptions in October 2023.  Train faults were 28% of these.  There are ongoing issues with the reliability of the train fleet, both NGR and QR Citytrain. At least there was an improvement in the the number of reported issues due to signal faults.
https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?msg=275305

RAIL Back On Track will be endeavouring to make public and active transport an important issue leading into the 2024 Queensland State Election.
Passengers are tired of the constant service disruptions on the public transport network, particularly bus and heavy rail.  It is way past the time these issues were properly addressed, and details of the actions taken communicated to the public.  Spin doesn't cut it, facts do.

Good Morning,

Interesting the lack of any response to the continuing public transport service failures.

Unless we get a proper Public Transport Authority, we suggest Public Transport Queensland, the mess is just going to get worse than it already is.

We are looking forward to the 2024 elections.

Best wishes

Couriermail --> Brisbane's broken public transport system laid bare in ridiculous two-hour trips across city $

QuoteBrisbane's public transport woes have been laid bare with residents forced into ridiculous multi-network commutes that take longer than driving.

Residents in greater Brisbane suburbs are forced to sit through public transport commutes approaching two hours versus approximately 30 minutes for those who drive.

The Courier-Mail took two public transport journeys to outer Brisbane suburbs not in proximity to the city's train network.

The longer of the two, from Bowen Hills to Capalaba, required a train journey into the CBD, a bus from Anzac Square to Carindale, then another bus from there to Capalaba bus station.

From touching on at 8:46am on a Thursday to touching off at Capalaba, 18 kilometres away as the crow flies, took one hour and 43 minutes, for those relegated to public transport.

The quickest car journey between the two destinations would have taken between 26 to 40 minutes. ...

Good Morning,

The Couriermail today has highlighted some of the failures with our public transport network in Brisbane.

There is a way out of this mess as we have pointed out relentlessly now for years.  It just takes some moral courage and commitment.

Hang in there!  The ride is going to get very bumpy.

Regards as always,
Robert

SEQ Public Transport Broken - Politicians Misleading Public

20th November 2023

RAIL Back On Track  is not surprised by the the Courier Mail's Public Transport experiment finding it slow, indirect and confusing.  Whilst there may have been faster ways to make the trip, even experienced public transport users have trouble finding the quickest route.

At the same time the Brisbane Lord Mayor, who is also the Chair of the SEQ Council of Mayors, and the Queensland Transport Minister are on all media outlets misleading the public claiming widening roads and building road tunnels will "End Peak Hour" or "Bust Congestion". Nothing could be further from the truth.

RAIL Back On Track has known for a long time that public transport in SEQ is "Broken" yet both the Labor and LNP parties are out there telling the public that more of the infrastructure that created today's transport mess is somehow also miraculously "The Solution".

At the current rate the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games will be a showcase on "How not to Manage Transport for an Olympics".

Transport planning in SEQ is totally out of control, wasting tax-payers money, damaging the economy, restricting access to jobs, making people sick ... this list just goes on.

The City Planning to support more people using active and public transport is not in much better shape with low-density zones surrounding public transport stations and commercial/employment centres.

RAIL Back On Track has repeatedly called for an overhaul of transport planning in SEQ and the prioritisation of  investment in active and public transport.

SEQ needs a Public Transport Bold Vision supported by updated City Plans that makes walking, cycling and public transport the first choice of travel not a very very distant last.

At a minimum our political leaders need to stop misleading the public!
