Translink SEQ Reported Lift Outages updated for October 2022

3rd  November 2022

Greetings,

Since 1st January 2021 RAIL Back On Track has been monitoring the number of reported lift outages on the Translink SEQ network
( https://railbot.info/forum/index.php?topic=186.0 ).

image: https://backontrack.org/docs/liftsout/liftsoutoct22.png

Many passengers are dependent on lifts for access to public transport. It has been disturbing the number of reported lift outages, and in May 2021 we noted 63 reports of lift outages, which was the highest we recorded prior to March 2022. March 2022 there were 69 reports of lift outages. The highest yet and reflects some lifts out of action due to the heavy rains and floods.

Last month, October 2022, there were 53 reported outages. These lift outages are a very significant obstacle for access to public transport.

Most are at rail stations, but some also occur at bus stations and occasionally at a ferry terminal. RAIL Back On Track supports the provision of compliant ramps where practical as an alternative to lifts. When the lifts fail (which is often) passengers can still access public transport via the ramps.  The lack of vision when it comes to new stations and stations upgrades in SEQ is disappointing.

RAIL Back On Track also provides a real time display of the current reported lift outages on public transport in SEQ at: https://seqliftsout.info

This is a filtered display of the Translink service notices RSS feed. This should be a widget on the main Translink SEQ web site.  It is not, so we provide the utility.

What is being done to improve the service reliability of lifts?  Each month we report the problem, but nothing from the authorities.

Best wishes,
Robert

Translink Reported Lift Outages updated for December 2022
3rd January 2023

Greetings,

Since 1st January 2021 RAIL Back On Track has been monitoring the number of reported lift outages on the SEQ Translink network ( https://railbot.info/forum/index.php?topic=186.0 ).

The average monthly reported lift outages for the two years, January 2021 to December 2022 was 42. There has been no real improvement over this period.

Last month, December 2022, there were 33 reported outages. These lift outages are a very significant obstacle for access to public transport.
Most are at rail stations, but some also occur at bus stations and occasionally at a ferry terminal. RAIL Back On Track supports the provision of compliant ramps where practical as a co-alternative to lifts. When the lifts fail (which is often) passengers can still access public transport via the ramps.

RAIL Back On Track also provides a real time display of the current reported lift outages on public transport in SEQ at:

The lift at Roma Street platforms 8/9 have been out of service for ages now, and was just told today that they don't think the lift will be back in working order until March/April as they need to get parts shipped in from overseas.

Really causing a lot of issues, especially if any of the other lifts on the other platforms go out of service, or if they do a partial closure and move all the trains to arr/dep on the mains, of which platforms 8 and 9 are on.

Can this be followed up?

ozbob

Thanks STB.  I will speak to QR.  If they are waiting for overseas parts it might take a while.  Took six months or so at Goodna.  They are key lifts at Roma St, and all attempts should be made.  I suspect what they will say is travel to Central to change platforms (guess that is if all lifts are working there, which they are not always).

Travelling to Central and back again is pointless if either 4/5 lifts are out of action or if they've closed the subs and moved all the trains to the mains for maintenance reasons.

It should be noted that the builder no longer services the elevators or maintains spare parts. Some parts are still easily available for purchase while others have to come from overseas on a special order. Some elevators are simply being replaced full stop as a result.

STB

Roma Street lift on platforms 6 and 7 reported to being out of action this morning, along with a lift at Bowen Hills station.

Time to replace the lifts..?

HappyTrainGuy

Most are under station refurbs. Parts are also then reused for other stations with similar lifts if possible.

Brisbanetimes --> This Brisbane CBD lift is so unreliable, it's been out of service almost half the days in 2024 $

QuoteElisha Matthews lives on the Brisbane River, and often travels by ferry. But when she gets off at North Quay, there's a good chance she won't be able to take the public lift into the CBD.

This lift is so unreliable, it's broken down at least seven times this year. One outage lasted two months.

All up, it's been out of action on 73 days – almost half the year so far.

Sometimes the lift is stuck at the bottom or top and won't respond to the button. Other times, its doors open and close repeatedly.

When it's not working, the options include climbing 63 stairs up to William Street, or a detour of more than 800 metres with four street crossings and a steep ramp.

Want to take the accessible route? That's a 1.5-kilometre detour. ...
