I am eagerly awaiting the opening of the Queen's Wharf public spaces, as that will provide an alternate set of lifts to this troublesome one, which will still be fairly close to the ferry terminal.

The "Velo Cafe" sited below the old State Library has a lift from ferry and bikeway level up to the largely pedestrianised Queens Wharf Road, and then a second lift between the Old State Library and Miller Park will take people between Queens Wharf Road and William Street. Hopefully, when the main lift goes down next time, the 2 QW lifts will be active.

I imagine riding up Queens Wharf Road will become a preferred alternative for cyclists, compared to either using lifts or lugging the bike up stairs. The top of Queens Wharf Road will connect them with the Citylink Cycleway as well.

Brisbanetimes --> Public transport lifts out of order hundreds of times a year $

QuoteThis week, we reported on the Brisbane CBD lift that is so unreliable it's been out of service almost half the days so far in 2024.

At the North Quay ferry terminal, the lift has broken down at least seven times this year – but it's not the only lift servicing public transport that has issues.

Advocacy group Rail Back on Track has a website that lists reported elevator outages on the south-east Queensland network, including at train stations, using data from Translink's service updates RSS feed.

"It's not only people who've got mobility issues (who are affected)," says Robert Dow from Rail Back on Track.

"It's people with prams, people with suitcases – they don't always think the lifts are going to be out."

Dow has also compiled the monthly outages into a table, with 48 lift outages reported last month. ...

Update on the Translink SEQ Reported Lift Outages

2nd October 2024

Since 1st January 2021 RAIL Back On Track has been monitoring the number of reported lift outages on the SEQ Translink network
( https://railbot.info/forum/index.php?topic=186.0 ). Note these are only the reported outages.
Many passengers are dependent on lifts for access to public transport.

Lift outages are a very significant obstacle for access to public transport. Most lift outages are at rail stations, but some also occur at bus stations and occasionally at a ferry terminal.

RAIL Back On Track supports the provision of compliant ramps where practical as a co-alternative to lifts. The fixation on lifts with the station upgrades and the absence of ramps is not really the best outcome. When the lifts fail (which is often) mobility impaired passengers can still access public transport via the compliant ramps.

It is concerning that the number of reported lift outages is increasing over time.  What is being done to minimise lift outages?

We also provide a real time display of the current reported lift outages on public transport in SEQ at:
https://seqliftsout.info
This is a filtered display of the Translink service notices RSS feed.
This something that Translink could and should do.
