With Bellbowrie Bridge, did they ever look at connecting Sumners Rd with Sugars Rd (Bellbowrie)? I feel like this route would help with resident concerns with having a road/bridge in the middle of the suburb and it also connects with an established "main road". More land resumptions would be needed on Riverhills Side, but I couldn't see many required for Bellbowrie.

Down the track it could connect with another bridge towards Karalee (Arthur Summervilles Rd), which could maybe connect mount crosby rd overpass with Ipswich (North Station Road, North Booval or Chermside Road, East Ipswich).

Karalee has potential for considerable housing development, which has slowly started. My long term vision would be the David Trumpy Bridge be turned into buses only. This would leave the Hancock Bridge and my proposed North Station Rd/Chermside Rd Bridges as the main routes for people to go South-North between Ipswich.

Funny that the NBB Stage 5 is likely to cost just $10 million or so and gets cancelled, yet the Indooroopilly Roundabout is still proceeding with a price tag of $126 million. Gotta love a Council with backwards priorities

ABC News --> Brisbane City Council pauses infrastructure projects in wake of 'significant hit' from $656m flood bill
ABC Radio Brisbane

Quote"We can't afford to be building two new green bridges in West End while there are bikeways, roads and bridges that need to be repaired right now, so we're hitting a pause on that program."

Key points:
.Brisbane City Council has paused a host of projects to cope with a $656 million flood bill
.$327 million of that will be on the council's books in the upcoming budget
.Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner said the council must fast-track repairs ahead of the 2032 Olympics

Two green bridges, park upgrades and a bikeway extension are just some of the projects Brisbane City Council has suspended as it grapples with a $656 million flood damage bill.
The council will contribute $327 million of that total, with federal and state disaster-resilience funding, and insurance payouts covering the other half.

Brisbane Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner on Thursday said the cost was far beyond the 2011 floods, and, ahead of the council's $3.6 billion budget being handed down in June had forced some hard decisions.

"This is a serious flood event we have just been through, and the impacts on our community, the impacts on business, on residents, and on our infrastructure, are ongoing," he said. ,,,

Couriermail --> Neville Bonner Bridge to be completed by the middle of the year $

QuoteConstruction of Brisbane's newest pedestrian bridge will be finalised by the middle of the year ahead of its opening to the public at the end of 2023.

Only four sections are left to be installed on the Neville Bonner Bridge as the city shaping infrastructure project nears completion.

Acting Premier Steven Miles has confirmed final construction works are expected to be done by mid-2023 – but the bridge will remain closed until the end of the year as works continue at Queen's Wharf.

"The bridge won't be open to the public until the integrated resort development commences opening," he said. ...

Couriermail --> Neville Bonner Bridge crosses Brisbane River, to open late 2023 $

QuoteBrisbane is expected to wake up on Monday with a brand new bridge, after the Neville Bonner Bridge at the new $3.6bn Queen's Wharf development "touched down" overnight.

After two years of construction, the final section of the 320m long pedestrian bridge – named after Australia's first federal Indigenous parliamentarian – was due to be installed, conditions permitting.

The bridge will link the dining and retail level of the new entertainment precinct development with South Bank, and flow through to George St. ...

As someone who works off Mary Street, I expect to make good use of this bridge when it opens. It may seem to be a duplication of the two other bridges, but for people coming from midway between Queen Street and Gardens Point (including CRR's Albert Street Station) it should be very popular.

Brisbanetimes --> Schrinner moves to secure land needed for next Brisbane green bridge

QuoteBrisbane City Council will debate whether to secure the land required for a pedestrian, cycle and scooter bridge connecting Toowong and West End.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner on Wednesday said the council would next week consider applying to the state government to resume 2217 square metres of the former ABC site at Toowong. ...

ABC News --> Brisbane's Toowong to West End green bridge to soon move to detailed design phase

QuoteBrisbane City Council will kick off detailed design of its planned green bridge between Toowong and West End before the end of the year.

It comes as the LNP administration faces criticism from the Greens for not yet requesting state or federal funding for the project – although, the state is still indicating it will not financially back the pedestrian link.

In Queensland --> Good news: Kangaroo Point bridge halfway finished. Bad news: it's already $100m over budget

QuoteBrisbane City Council has revealed the cost of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge has blown out to almost $300 million, more than $100 million above its intial costs.

Its original price was $190 million, but this was revised up last year to $280 million and today's figure has it at $299 million, an increase of 7 per cent.

Civic Cabinet Transport Chair Ryan Murphy said major projects Australia-wide were under ongoing pricing pressure.

Cr Murphy said the project cost had increased from what was anticipated prior to the COVID-19 pandemic and the massive escalation in construction material costs which had followed. ...

And yet the LNP says exactly the same thing about QLD Labor. Anyone who is surprised by projects going over budget vs pre-Covid costings has been living under a rock, or is simply an idiot.

#Metro

I think this spells the end of mega projects across all modes really, at least for a very long time.

Mega projects will simply be priced out of existence. On the upside, authorities will finally be forced to engage with cheap and boring solutions, like more BUZ routes, or cycling infrastructure.

it may for active/public transport but I can guarantee it won't for road widening projects and new freeways!!

#Metro

New roads will likely be proposed as toll roads as government can't or won't pay.

We know from experience the financial return on these tend to be historically poor. Plenty of them went broke too(e.g. Brizconnections).

Brisbanetimes --> Breakfast Creek Green Bridge opens, question mark hangs over two others $

QuoteThe first of Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner's promised green bridges officially opened on Saturday morning, but funding doubts remain over two other bridges he took to the last council election.

The Breakfast Creek Green Bridge, a stone's throw from the famous pub that bears that name, officially opened on Saturday morning, a little over a month out from the Brisbane City Council election.

With dual names, the bridge will also be known as Yowoggera, which means corroboree, or corroboree place, in the local First Nations language. ...

If they really worked hard at it over the next three months, it could be open for Riverfire being late August this year.

It would be really nice to have both the Neville Bonnor and KP Bridge open for Riverfire.

I wish they would announce an indicative date. The original date earlier in the year was Riverfire 2024 but that is no chance.
