Quote from: achiruel on June 19, 2020, 03:15:26 AMWhat about Kenmore though? BUZ the 430?

Rejig the 430, 432/433, 435 and 444 to provide frequency every 15 minutes to Kenmore Village 6am - 9pm 7 days a week.

QuoteOne of lord mayor Adrian Schrinner's five flagship green bridges will be scrapped after local residents indicated they did not want or need it.

The Bellbowrie-Wacol green bridge was one of five bridges Cr Schrinner committed to in last year's council budget, but Brisbane City Council will now look for another location for the bridge.

Four other pedestrian and cycling bridges at Kangaroo Point to the CBD, Breakfast Creek, West End to Toowong and West End to St Lucia have all been more warmly welcomed by residents.

But after two rounds of community consultation, it became clear that Bellbowrie and Wacol residents did not want a pedestrian and cycling-only bridge and would prefer it to be at least open to buses.

Either Moggill Road has miraculously improved in the last 10 years, or COVID-19 is causing collective community amnesia over how bad the traffic is on Moggill Road in the AM Peak.

Oh well, the NIMBYs of Bellbowrie are welcome to continue to self-flagellate. Time to ensure the Toowong & St Lucia bridges are built to carry buses with the money that's been freed up! :fx
There is no issue with the Toowong to West end for PT use.  Cr Sri and Michael Berkman have campaigned heavily to make those two bridges St Lucia and Toowong pedestrian and bicycle only.

As a compromise, one bridge should be pedestrian and bicycle only the other to carry PT as well.

I was originally backing the Toowong bridge for PT to take traffic off Coronation Drive.

Coronation Drive T3 or bus lanes  are unlikely to free up congestion on that corridor. Traffic will then start queuing along with buses back to Taringa and back towards the Uni from Benson street. This will blow out travel times.

Coronation Drive is used mainly for cross city trips people will not change to buses on that corridor necessarily.

A vehicle tunnel from Toowong Cemetery to Buranda with entry and exit points at Toowong and West End will alleviate traffic on Coronation Drive. Once the tunnel.is operational one could reinstalled 24h bus lanes in each direction as well as dismantle the Riverside expressway to the Captain Cook bridge with on and off ramps to the CBD there.. Urban renewal then could occur along North Quay with new development making North Quay two way. It would really regenerate the inner city core and surrounding inner West suburbs of Milton, Taringa and Toowong.

PS An entry and exit point for the Buranda road tunnel could be at BBC Moggill.Road and the other at Benson street Toowong.

Couriermail --> New Brisbane 'green bridges' to be 'major jobs driver', council seeking feedback

Brisbane City Council has released stunning new images of Brisbane's soon-to-come 'green bridges'. Pictured here is the Kangaroo Point bridge. Picture: Artist's impression.

QuoteBrisbane City Council has released stunning new images of Brisbane's soon-to-come "green bridges", with council fast-tracking the process to catalyse the city's coronavirus recovery.

The Courier-Mail can reveal that council will open expression of interest applications for the Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek green bridges mid-September.

The consultation kick-off comes after initial work on the bridges started earlier this year, with geotechnical drilling, ground and hydrographic surveys taking place since April.

Lord Mayor Adrian Schrinner also revealed the fast-tracked $257 million project will be a "major jobs driver" for the local construction industry, with the two bridges expected to employ over 500 workers at its peak.

"The Green Bridges program is a milestone in our city's construction history," Cr Schrinner said.

"Our city has sustained a brutal economic hit this year – this means we get people into work now and critical infrastructure projects like these bridges are how we do that."

Council will hold an industry briefing session on Friday, before an expressions of interest (EOI) process starts in mid-September.

"Community feedback plays a crucial role in developing each bridge, and I encourage residents to have their say on the latest designs of the Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek green bridges," Cr Schrinner added.

Residents and stakeholders can provide feedback on the landing arrangements, viewing points, connections to the active and public transport networks, landscaping and urban design elements.

To submit feedback, fill out the online survey (https://www.brisbane.qld.gov.au/traffic-and-transport/roads-infrastructure-and-bikeways/green-bridges).

You can also provide feedback by

• contacting the Project Team on 1800 318 166 (during business hours)

Brisbanetimes --> Lord mayor says Brisbane green bridge designs have broad support

QuoteConsultation on the Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek green bridges has closed, with more than 2000 people providing feedback to Brisbane City Council on the proposed designs.

Lord mayor Adrian Schrinner said consultation on the designs included six pop-up information sessions across the city and an online survey.

"Over the past month about 2200 people had their say on the design and proposed landing points of the planned Kangaroo Point and Breakfast Creek green bridges," he said.

"While the final detailed results won't be known for a few more months, the positive feedback to date has confirmed Brisbane City Council is on the right track."

The council budgeted $257 million for the two bridges out of its $550 million green bridge allocation, pledging to fully fund the two bridges if no state or federal financial support was forthcoming.

Cr Schrinner said more than 1300 online survey responses had been lodged in the past month, reporting about 70 per cent favouring the bridge designs.

The lord mayor said the council's next steps would be detailed analysis of the public feedback.

The council also expects to shortlist tenders for the two bridges in November.

"These two bridges are being fast-tracked as they're major job drivers, employing more than 500 people, and the opportunities for the construction industry and suppliers will help Brisbane recover from the brutal economic hit of coronavirus," he said.

"I am pleased to see that the community is so supportive of the initial designs of these two bridges, and their feedback will help inform the final design for each bridge.

"Every day we get one step closer to finalising the designs and being ready to kick-start construction in 2021, subject to approvals."

I just completed the survey for the Toowong and St Lucia crossings, but emailed the Project team with my concerns.

QuoteTo the Project Team,

I have just completed the Green Bridge surveys for both Toowong and the St Lucia crossings. While I totally agree there is a need for the Toowong to West End Bridge for many reasons, I disagree with the St Lucia to West End bridge. This bridge should be scrapped and a combined mass transit and pedestrian bridge put in place instead. Council should work with UQ, State and Federal Governments to provide options for a Mass Transit Corridor from Kenmore/Indooroopilly to the City via St Lucia, UQ, West End and South Brisbane. UQ have flagged and identified this as the preferred option going forward. The St Lucia to West end Active Transport bridge is a waste of Council's funds and time. Better efforts are best to be focussed on a new Mass Transit corridor that would provide far reaching benefits for the broader community. New Active Transport corridors can also be included with a new Mass Transit Corridor.

I like the idea of a St Lucia to West end bridge, it would finally complete the boundary st axis to the CBD.

There seems more support for the Toowong to West end Bridge than the St Lucia connection. I suspect they might be down to two options with the Toowong to West End Bridge. The one closer to the the Bi-Centennial bikeway and the other that links Toowong Village.

Brisbanetimes --> Three of Brisbane's five new bridges are hanging in limbo

QuoteThree of the five new green bridges slated for inner-city Brisbane are still awaiting decisions on their final design and location almost a year after the council's re-election.

Two of the bridges are expected to start taking shape this year, as Brisbane City Council fleshes out its plans in consultation with the community along with state and federal infrastructure bodies.

Of the other three, the consultation period for two sites has been extended and the third will return to the drawing board after community pushback. ...

Couriermail --> Development application for Kangaroo Point green bridge lodged with council $

QuoteThe development application for the striking new bridge set to span the Brisbane River between the CBD and Kangaroo Point have been lodged.

It's one of four green bridges the LNP administration have vowed to build in coming years.

The planning documents lodged earlier this week said "construction of the Kangaroo Point green bridge could begin as early as late 2021, with expected completion by the end of 2023."

The bridge will be 6.8 metres wide, allowing for a pedestrian and cycle lane, 470 metres long and have a single 104m-tall mast that will be taller than the Story Bridge. ...

It's going to wreck one of the city's main vistas.

The bridge would be better with two, possibly shorter pylons both set closer to the river bank.

You have a point, but the bridge designs have already gone through extensive community consultations.

^ I do wonder to what extent that giant mast is actually required and to what extent it's just a p%ssing contest. If the latter, that's incredibly disappointing. Not everything has to stick out like a sore thumb just so it's another "grand" project. I am of course no structural engineer or architect.

The bridge itself, is overdue regardless of aesthetics.

Brisbanetimes --> Superyacht mooring and zipline hit a snag as Brisbane bridge plans land

Quote... When announced by the state government last year, the superyacht mooring trial site was pitched for the eastern bank of the river, south of the Thornton Street ferry stop. Its website now states the location is "yet to be established".

Run by Maritime Safety Queensland, the trial was pushed back to 2021 "due to the COVID-19 pandemic", the agency's website said.

Asked whether there had been discussions with the state government over the plans, public and active transport committee chair Ryan Murphy said the council had been working co-operatively with both to support the mooring trial.

"[But] we remain firmly opposed to superyacht sites upstream of the Kangaroo Point Green Bridge," Cr Murphy added.

The council was no longer investigating a zipline from the cliffs to the gardens. ...

Brisbanetimes --> Department to pass on secret Bulimba study for council bridge planning

QuoteQueensland's Transport Department says it will release a secret Bulimba to Teneriffe green bridge study to Brisbane City Council amid ongoing work to pin down the location of the council's fifth proposed inner-city river crossing.

The 2016 feasibility study for a Bulimba to Teneriffe "active transport bridge" sought to probe potential development of the long-floated link, but found more work needed to be done to determine its cost.

Produced as an "internal technical document", the study was not intended to be released publicly, a Transport and Main Roads Department spokesman said.

"However, TMR is planning to provide a copy to Brisbane City Council for their internal planning purposes." ...

These sort of ' studies ' need to be available publicly.  Our money, our documents!!   >:D

ABC News --> Brisbane City Council reveals final locations of two West End green bridges

QuoteThe locations of Brisbane's two newest green bridges have been selected by Brisbane City Council, linking the inner-city suburbs West End to Toowong and St Lucia respectively.

The two bridges will provide pedestrian, scooter, and cyclist access across the Brisbane River to some of Brisbane's densest inner-city suburbs and the University of Queensland's St Lucia campus.

The former ABC Toowong site at 600 Coronation Drive will be the landing site for a Toowong-West End green bridge, with the bridge landing in Orleigh Park near Forbes Street in West End.

The St Lucia Bridge will stretch from Guyatt Park to Orleigh Park, downstream of the West End and Guyatt Park ferry terminals. ...

So, yes it can be built. We don't know the cost, because it was redacted, but considering the complexity of building such a bridge, I can't imagine much change out of $300 million. How much does the cross-river ferry cost to run again? Maybe time to replace existing ferries with battery-electric ferries. I understand there will be a cost for cyclists, but for people transferring on/off CityGlider/199/470, the effective cost is zero.

Brisbanetimes --> 'A fabulous idea': Ministers, Bulimba residents get behind green bridge

QuoteTwo Queensland cabinet ministers have told Brisbane City Council to stop playing politics and investigate building a green bridge west of the Story Bridge.

And the people of Bulimba agree.

Summarising the views of the suburb's businesses, Oxford Street newsagent Donna Bradshaw said a pedestrian bridge from Bulimba to Teneriffe or Newstead was "a fabulous idea".

"I think people would love it ... anything to get more people into the area," she said.

The newsagent said regular customers were always talking about a green bridge.

"Often, often. We've been here for over eight years and people would just love it," she said. ...

I am in two minds about this crossing. I think money should be put towards new mass transit solutions from Kenmore, Indooroopilly, St Lucia, UQ, West End, via the City Valley and Teneriffe to Skygate via Hamilton Northshore.

aldonius

Bulimba to Teneriffe is the only crossing "pair" (other than West End to UQ) that does quite well in terms of CityCat patronage. In particular a bus bridge there would be transformative.

I'm not sold on a subway. There's no one corridor of high density for it to follow, not really, and on the southwestern end you have the choice of going to UQ and running out of density to serve, or going to Toowong and just... running parallel to the heavy rail to go to Indooroopilly.

SurfRail

I suspect a bus bridge is off for Bulimba.

The only way I could think of doing it would be to have a bridge that was low enough not to interfere with Citycats and most other normal river traffic, and which had either a rotating section or drawbridge in the middle to keep the river navigable for the bigger stuff.  Probably much easier to do that for pedestrians and cyclists only and just improve bus services on the Bulimba side.

Brisbanetimes --> Key planners back study of green bridge between Teneriffe and Bulimba

QuoteA green bridge between Teneriffe and Bulimba would reduce congestion to the CBD and would be used heavily by pedestrians and cyclists, one of Australia's leading urban planning agencies said.

Two years ago, Brisbane City Council announced it would spend $550 million to build five green bridges, then announced locations for green bridges at Kangaroo Point, Breakfast Creek, Toowong and West End.

Labor state MPs questioned why no green bridges were planned downstream of the Story Bridge, while the LNP council administration insisted it was waiting to see the findings of a 2016 Arup report before committing ratepayers' money to its own investigations.

A green bridge linking Teneriffe to Bulimba was included in the RACQ's 2017 Bridging Brisbane study.

Urbis regional director Ben Slack said a green bridge in that reach of the Brisbane River made sense. ...

My idea for a proper metro style train was from UQ Lakes via Chancellors Place to Toowong. You would have a sweeping curve and then run almost a straight line all the way to Albert St station. You would take in Davies Park, West End Coles and Cultural Centre on the way. From there you would head up to the Valley (another heavy rail interchange) and on to Teneriffe and Bulimba. You would take in the development of the old naval base and then over to Hamilton Northshore. You even have the option of coming above ground and taking over the Doomben line as far as Eagle Jct. You could build an additional platform.

Trains would be ATO like London Underground with a driver to monitor and open/close doors. I envisioned 15-20m carraiges in pairs with at least 3 pairs of doors and a cab at one end of the pair. Trains would be run as a minimum of 4 with fleet expansion possible by building additional pairs without cabs to extend the trains to 6, 8 or even 10.

If you're going to have a completely new metro line, why have onboard staff at all? Sydney seems to work fine without them.

#Metro

If you could do West End-City-Valley-Bulimba with LRT or even CityGlider, that would be a game changer. It would also do the job with none of the costs of a metro, which isn't justified IMHO until 2050 or so on this corridor.

No need for drivers on new metro lines. Some driverless metro lines have onboard attendants or roving attendants who have more of a customer service roll, but can drive a train in restricted manual mode if required.
