This bridge is really becoming gold plated in some respects.

SteelPan

True - should have been built 50yrs ago....but...it's a gold plated location and with that two billion dollar Pier Nine redevelopment, that's going to pull people in like moths to a spot light! You've also got the gardens right there, with a stroll through/around to Queens Wharf....so considering we're only building the bridge now, it can actually justify a top draw job!

Indeed!  Love that line ... going to be a very useful bridge  :-t

Doesn't seem to have much shade or weather protection :conf

I thought that was a given considering Brisbane's climate, particularly between October and February. But hey, the Olympics are during the dryer, winter months so the games goers won't need that kind of protection anyway, right?

Usually I'm not a fan of "glaming" these things, but like the proposal for Eagle/Thornton Sts....a Brekkie Creek Pedestrian Bridge "deck cafe" would not be a bad spot at all! Nice to sit there, looking out toward the river and the Newstead House Park, whilst not impacting the Park space specifcally...win/win!!!!    :conf

^Similar to the Cafe on the Goodwill Bridge. It's a lovely spot (particularly a wonderful rest spot for riders). I'm really not sure what people's beef is with using this lookout area on the bridge as commercial

In Qld---> Span-tastic: A few final tweaks, now Brisbane's new crossing to start within weeks

QuoteBrisbane's new $190 million Kangaroo Point Green Bridge has undergone a redesign including a shortening of its signature mast and a reduction in the number of cable stays to improve its look and lessen its intrusiveness on the city skyline.

Brisbanetimes --> Designs for two new Brisbane green bridges unveiled $

QuoteThe designs for two new green bridges in Brisbane have been revealed, with works possibly starting in 2024.

New concept designs for the Toowong to West End and St Lucia to West End bridges were unveiled by lord mayor Adrian Schrinner on Monday, with both projects expected to take about two years to complete. ...

It's still a lost opportunity not building a Green bridge from Toowong to West End that allows public transport.

By the time this bridge is built all buses will be whisper quiet electric services, quashing many residents concerns regarding noise and air pollution issues.

verbatim9

Shade sails especially in that area being wind swept, may not be the best long term economic strategy and solution to provide shade and shelter from the elements. Fixed roofing structures are better.

verbatim9

^^The West End to St Lucia bridge is unlikely to get built anytime soon. The Toowong to West End bridge construction will likely start in 2024.

I would like to see some investigation or reports into a Green Bridge (BUS, Walking, Cycling) from Newstead to Bulimba.

I understand that such a bridge might have to be high (though I am not sure how frequent tall ships needed to go that far upriver), and probably should open in the middle.

Such a bridge would immediately allow PT to have a direct advantage coming from Bulimba into the City and Valley by going the short way.

City to Cannon Hill via Bulimba bridge would take about 25-30 minutes by bus IMO.

With flooding occuring between Moggill and Kenmore and the road cut, isn't time to revisit the green bridge (pedestrian and bus) that was meant help flood mitigate Moggill.

The idea was to open the bridge to all traffic in times of need like this anyway and to ensure that the newly located supermarket remains stocked.

It is still a good idea to link Moggill with the Wacol. The riverbank is much higher there.

verbatim9

Council needs to push this through and explain to the residents of it benefits. We can see from this flood that they do require such a bridge.

They don't require two bridges from West to St Lucia and Toowong.

The West End to Toowong bridge is a good idea, the other is not really needed. However, it is required at Moggill.

The Moggill-Riverhills Bridge needs to go ahead even if purely to expedite evacuation of the area in a natural disaster.

Looking at the BCC flood map for this flood (and bearing in mind other floods were higher) it does show Moggill Road the single road out of the area as cut by floods.

Both the bridge for Riverhills-Bellbowrie and the replacement of Moggill Ferry with a bridge would make total sense given this IMHO. The roads and ramp to a theoretical Riverhills-Bellbowrie Bridge should be built such that it can be used in a flood (e.g. perhaps on a viaduct to allow floodwater underneath).

You don't need to people to evacuate unnecessarily. The aim is to flood mitigate the area.  The crossing at Moggill Ferry is not appropriate nor the crossing at Bellbowrie to Riverhills. The most appropriate is the one council first proposed.

A resident on 7 news out in Bellbowrie stated  that they are the forgotten suburbs, due to being cut off by floods. Council did offer a solution!

No trains, no bus, and road access cut off.

The road is open now, but only one lane.

Trains tomorrow though, but the Moggill Ferry is still closed because of dam releases.

verbatim9

The Moggill area has a population of around 10,000.

They deserve better infrastructure to mitigate against flood.

Imagine if the Green bridge was there now between Moggill and Wacol. Trucks, buses  and cars could use it to get in and out and the supermarket and pharmacy could remain stocked.

It then would revert back to a green bridge once the dam releases are finished.

Moggill Ferry - A solution from the 1870s... :yikes: when you would put your horse and cart on it to get to the other side.

It belongs in a museum.

Time to move with the times and have a transport solution that meets modern standards - safety and otherwise!  :fo:

A bridge does not need to go exactly in the same spot, rather where it will be best used.

Brisbanetimes --> And the winners are: Brisbane firms to build bridge near Games hub

QuoteMonths after delayed work started on the Kangaroo Point green bridge, the contract for a similar bridge at Breakfast Creek has been awarded to two Brisbane-based companies.

The pedestrian bridge, with an arch of about 80 metres spanning Breakfast Creek in Brisbane's north, was expected to become a key access point during the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games. ...

T21 and T2 Green Bridges by design but usable in emergencies/flooding by authorized vehicles. Maybe the Moggil Feerry Bridge is also allows cars but only a single lane each way.

It makes sense to reignite the case for a new bridge at Moggill. The three tiers of Government really need to get on with a solution. I really thought the BCC Green bridge  adequate to provide new public transport and flood mitigation solutions. Unfortunately, a bridge down at Bellowrie to Centenary will not provide any flood mitigation which is the sole purpose of any new bridge.

In addition, Moggill already has a scheduled bus loop service. A bridge that connects the Moggill peninsula with Wacol and Darra can provide opportunities to enhance this service to connect Wacol and Darra stations.
