^^ Do you think enough time has passed since Rail Fail for him to come back?

#Metro

How much time would satisfy 'enough'? What additional benefits would waiting longer achieve?

Sterling's experience was not positive, but that said, experiences do not have to be positive to be useful.

The rail fail came about due to the actions of QR, not by actions or omissions by the minister at the time IIRC.

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

Actions of political interference, TMR cost cutting and positions outsourced to tmr/consultants. The writing was on the wall but everyone chose to ignore it and blame someone else rather than growing up and addressing the fundamental issues at play. No one has learnt anything. Christ the same bloody writing is still on the wall. Heading into a new core bit of infrastructure, expansions to the Beenleigh/Gold Coast line and the olympics with issues blearing loud and clear and yet crickets. But what else do you expect from the department of thumbs up and selfies.

Couriermail --> Cross River Rail safety failings exposed in injury log showing 'worst record' in Australia $

QuoteDozens of government safety enforcement notices dating back more than three years have exposed a litany of official safety breaches on the $6.3 billion Cross River Rail including hazards posing "serious risk of injury or death".

Workers on the State Government's showpiece Cross River Rail project have been hit by falling objects and exposed to hazards posing "serious risk of injury or death", according to a litany of official safety breaches.

The Sunday Mail has obtained copies of dozens of government safety enforcement notices dating back more than three years on the $6.3 billion infrastructure project after a worker was critically injured this week.

Cross River Rail construction was shut down after Nation "Nash" Kouka was left fighting for life in hospital when he fell up to 12m from scaffolding at the Boggo Rd station site at Dutton Park on Tuesday. ...

InQld --> Persona non grata: Workers return to Cross River Rail, demand Minister be sacked

QuoteWorkers are back on site at Queensland's cross-river rail after a man was critically injured at the multibillion-dollar construction project, but want the Transport Minister sacked over the incident.

Construction, Forestry, Maritime, Mining and Energy Union members walked off the job last week after a 54-year-old man fell up to 10 metres at the Boggo Road station site on Tuesday.

He was taken to the nearby Princess Alexandra Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition.

A CFMEU spokesman confirmed workers were back on site as a workplace health and safety investigation and full site safety audit were under way. ...

Couriermail --> Two Cross River Rail workers injured in 'near-fatal' accident at problem-plagued Brisbane site $

QuoteTwo Cross River Rail workers have been injured and taken to hospital in another serious safety incident on the showpiece $6.3bn state government project.

In what sources say was a dangerous near-fatality, the workers were hit by a "whipping" concrete pump pipe on the Roma St site last week.

The incident involved the same contractor, Kenny Constructions, which was involved in last month's major accident on the Boggo Rd site which left a worker on life support in hospital.

Kenny Constructions has been hit with Workplace Health and Safety Queensland breach notices over the latest incident, including a stop-work order which found a "serious" risk to safety. ...

Couriermail --> Spot the difference: Cross River Rail site 'sanitised' after accident $

QuoteAn investigation has been launched into allegations that an accident scene on the Cross River Rail project was "sanitised" before State Government workplace health and safety inspectors arrived.

Two workers were hospitalised after a concrete pump "whipping" incident on the Roma St site of the $6.3bn CRR project two weeks ago.

The men were employed by the same company, Kenny Constructions, which was involved in a major accident on the Boggo Rd site in July which left a worker fighting for life in hospital.

Workplace Health and Safety Queensland said it was investigating union claims the Roma St site was cleaned up before the arrival of inspectors after the August 23 accident. ...

Cross River Rail underground stations taking shape as first escalators installed

9th September 2023

JOINT STATEMENT

Acting Premier and Minister for the Olympic and Paralympic Games
The Honourable Dr Steven Miles

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services
The Honourable Mark Bailey

. First Cross River Rail escalators installed at future Woolloongabba station

. Once complete, Cross River Rail will transform connectivity across South East Queensland

. Woolloongabba station, where the underground levels are taking shape, will sit in the centre of a major urban renewal precinct

The first of almost 100 escalators to be installed in Cross River Rail's new underground stations are now in place at the project's Woolloongabba site, marking a significant milestone for the transformational project.

The two escalators in the Woolloongabba station cavern are the first of 95 escalators that will progressively arrive to be installed in Cross River Rail's underground stations, including Woolloongabba (24 escalators in total), Albert Street (29), Roma Street (28) and Boggo Road (14).

The installation of the escalators, which are each 12 metres long and weigh 17.5 tonnes, heralds the next phase of construction as the project moves from excavation and bulk civil works to the mechanical and electrical fit out of the stations themselves.

The escalators being installed in the station cavern will take passengers to and from the train platform and station concourse, while even bigger escalators – each 21 metres long and weighing about 26 tonnes – that will take passengers from the surface down into the underground stations are still to come.

Each underground station will also include elevators, which will assist passengers with accessibility needs.

Meanwhile, the future Woolloongabba station itself is progressing well, with 113 of 181 concrete beams now installed for the mezzanine – the level that sits above the platform level.

The platforms themselves are also taking shape, with about 198 metres of the station's 220-metre-long platform completed so far.

Quotes attributed Acting Premier Steven Miles:

"The installation of the first escalators on this transformational project at Woolloongabba is a significant milestone.

"Combined with the progress of the station itself, including the mezzanine and platform levels, you can now really start to picture what these underground stations will look like and the benefits they will bring.

"The Woolloongabba Cross River Rail station, along with Brisbane Metro and the Gabba redevelopment, will sit at the centre of a major urban renewal precinct with more housing, dining and retail options.

"Queenslanders will be able to get off the train and walk or scooter from the Gabba to South Bank and back to the City – the whole area will be revitalised just like Expo 88 transformed South Bank."

Quotes attributed to Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:

"Cross River Rail will mean stations in more convenient locations, the capacity to increase train services as our population grows, and public transport will become a more viable option for the whole region, helping to ease congestion on our roads.

"When it comes to these escalators themselves, they are the same ones that will be used by people from all around the world to events for the 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

"Just as exciting are the benefits that Cross River Rail is bringing to our economy now, with a new wave of tradies coming on board as the project moves into the mechanical and electrical fit out.

"Workers such as lift and escalator installers, riggers and electricians are now helping to build this transformational project, as it injects about $2.3 million a day into the state's economy.

"Cross River Rail will not only transform the way we travel in the future – it's delivering real benefits now."

Questions Without Notice

Cross River Rail

Mr RUSSO: My question is to the Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital
Services. Can the minister provide an update on Cross River Rail, and is the minister aware of any
other policy position?

Mr BAILEY: I thank the member for Toohey for the question. I wish him a happy 49th birthday—
although I could be a few years out, just to be careful with the record. I thank the member for Toohey for his advocacy. He has a range of stations that we are upgrading as part of the Cross River Rail project. At Rocklea, there is a lot of work being done to make sure it is fully accessible, and then we will be moving over to Salisbury and Moorooka. I thank him for his ongoing support.

It was great to be at the Gabba station on the weekend with the Deputy Premier looking at the
first of 95 escalators now arriving and being installed in the Cross River Rail system. We are seeing
four underground stations being built with escalators, making it that tangible, real thing for commuters to see them arriving. We know that this project would only have happened under this Premier and this government because we took it to not just one but two elections. It is now too late for it to be cut by the Leader of the Opposition, if ever he gets the opportunity. It would only have happened because of the vision of this Premier and this government.

Given the member for Chatsworth's announcement at his own press conference in March that
there will be billions in cuts, the question is what is going to be cut. We know that they cut transport infrastructure last time, they cut Cross River Rail, they cut the train driver training and they sent the contracts overseas. Not a single bit of new rail was built under those opposite. All they did was cut.

What we want to see is commitments from the Leader of the Opposition. Will he cut the station
accessibility program? Will he cut the planning on the Sunshine Coast direct line? Will he cut the Logan and Gold Coast Faster Rail project? We know they have got billions in cuts. How do we know that? Because they tell us. Look at the wry look on the member for Chatsworth's face. He knows that he let the cat out of the bag in March. He let the cat out of the bag and told the truth, but the Leader of the Opposition will not tell the truth because he will not tell us what the cuts will be.

We can only look to the past, and that is that the Leader of the Opposition called Campbell
Newman 'special' in the Gavin King book. He said it himself. What do we have on the opposition side?
Newman government minister, Newman government minister, Newman government minister, Newman
government minister, Newman government minister, Newman government minister, Newman
government minister, assistant Newman government minister and assistant Newman government
minister. It is 8½ years later, and who is running the show? It is the old Newman crew. We know their
style. They cut, they sack and they sell. They will be trying to hide that from Queenslanders every day until the election. What we want is a bit of honesty. They have said they will cut billions. The member for Chatsworth said that. What will they be?

Yet this is the zoning around the station...  Yes there is flooding but to the North-East there isn't.  Yet Low Density Residential.

Not as it seems. Basically it's getting CRR to come to the table. Hazard pay basically. If you don't improve safety conditions or take it seriously as is the case with CRR you pay the workers more. Also incentivises non union members to join and should it get to strike/go slow/tools down action it will have a bigger impact in regards to contract payments to CPB. It does add costs to the project aswell which then has the extra effect of politatians stepping in trying to minimise the damage when it comes to election time as not to look bad and get voted out. In Bailey's case he's starting to rack up the number of own goals so he'll try to be shifting blame/distancing himself publicly while getting the department/authority to sort it out in the back end.

It has got your attention though hasn't it which was the point.

Question on Notice
No. 1018
Asked on 12 September 2023

MR J KRAUSE ASKED MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT AND MAIN ROADS AND MINISTER FOR DIGITIAL SERVICES (HON M BAILEY)

QUESTION:

Will the Minister provide an explanation of the project 'Cross River Rail Tunnel Maintenance Plant'
on page 46 of QTRIP?

ANSWER:

I thank the Member for Scenic Rim for the question.

The Cross River Rail Tunnel Maintenance Plant line item on page 46 of the Queensland Transport
and Roads Investment Program 2023–24 to 2026–27 refers to the hi-rail transport and
maintenance equipment that will be required for Queensland Rail to complete ongoing routine
maintenance in the new Cross River Rail tunnels.

The new tunnels have specifications that are unique to the rest of the South East Queensland rail
network managed by Queensland Rail and, as such, require equipment that will cater to those
specifications to ensure the tunnels are appropriately and safely maintained.
