Just hit 43oC here at Goodna cobber.  The network seems to be holding together well at this point, concrete sleepers do help a lot as well as pre-stressing the rail ...  track closures are for a reason, as annoying they can be some times ...

There are reported Power supply issues around Lawnton for Caboolture/Sunshine Coast commuters (per TL),  30 min delays, so there will likely be a knockback effect to Ipswich services as a result.

Thanks for advice, yes just noticed on the TL site.  Track itself seems to be OK, you know they should pay their bills on time!   ;)

archerfields peaked at 43.5  :P
I can only summise how bad it would be for Goodna residents having to walk over that station pedestrian bridge in 43 degree heat...
kudos to QR...with days like today the trackwork has really helped....

Update Goodna 43.1oC ...

Track seems to be OK ...   you are right TB the foot bridge is a furnace ...

The Gold Coast has been quite breezy all day so it has been fairly tolerable, althought catching the train from Helensvale back to Robina earlier in the day it was abundantly clear it wasn't doing the line speed.  Precaution?

Yo, expect general speed restriction as is prudent.  But it does appear that the track infrastructure has stood up to the heat stresses today very well indeed. A few power issues etc. to be expected in part.  Surprised not more signal faults  etc. ... as well.  Maybe the work over the last few years is starting to pay off. Ipswich (DOWN) has new points and looking very slick indeed ...

Yes, I noticed on my own train travel that the trains weren't exactly travelling at full pelt.

Overall the network has held up very well. If we were in Sydney, at this point in time one line would have been suspended for 6 hours, another would be running out of rolling stock and there'd probably be a third line with a train stranded due to buckling tracks.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

Track inspection underway between Cooran and Traverston about 2pm.  QR seems to have taken all reasonable precautions.

Indeed .. update temp at Goodna (shade)  is now 35.8oC  ...

HappyTrainGuy

Might have been temperature speed restrictions. I can't recall the exact figures but it varies between sleeper type.

Fares_Fair

Palmwoods peaked at 43.0C (shade) at 3:28pm.
Wavered down and back up to 43.0C again at 3:46pm.

Currently outside 32.0C (dark) and falling (thank goodness) at 9:07pm.

I left my car parked in the sun at Ferny Grove yesterday, when I hopped in the car's external temperature reading was 42 degrees, thought this may have been from sitting in the sun but it upped to 44 after driving for 15 minutes. Still not expecting that to be an overly accurate temperature readout but it's something.

Redbank would have been nudging 44oC yesterday ...

Looks like the NSW AK cars are visiting Roms Street today, just caught a glimpse of a loco hauled (8132) passenger consist under the convention centre.

techblitz

Anyone know if there is a planned car park extension for keperra station?
Theres a decent size vacant block right next door...

#Metro

Find out who the owner of the block is and ask permission to park there for a small fee. They'd make a mint and also allow parking.

BCC planning applications search brings up nothing, so it's presumably just a new house going in from scratch.

Keperra doesn't need an expanded parking lot, they haven't even managed to fill the larger one at Ferny Grove yet (at least from what I've seen). I can still turn up at 8:30 and get an underground park.

Nor it seems the above ground ones in front of the tavern. As far as I'm aware the only ones that are reserved for tavern patrons only are the ones directly in front of the tavern and beside the BWS, all of which have a collapsible yellow post that has "Tavern" written on it which so far I've never seen raised. Either that or a lot of people think their car weighs over 32t....

Travelled out to BNE airport today.  Pleased to see two QR staff working through the departing Airtrain service offering assistance to passengers as needed.  Good pro-active service!  Well done.

Because we shouldn't encourage more people to go to different train stations? If Keperra is their local station, it should be made easy for them just to go directly to that station and park.

Can anyone confirm whether the old printery site adjacent to the Nambour railway station, now cleared, has had the fence removed so that cars can park there?

I can see where you're coming from but I also think that Keperra being a station surrounded by suburban streets while Ferny Grove is right on Samford Rd and Grovely is right on Dawson Pde means that you should try and avoid encouraging more people to drive into Keperra.

'Dance of the trains' occurring this afternoon at Landsborough. Was originally catching I/B Gympielander from Plat 1, now Plat 2 due t a TravelTrain. Lots of fun for people like me who have suitcase in tow. The stairs are good exercise.

At least the 605 running 5 minutes early gave me time to switch platforms.

Update: And we're off! Only on a 100 series IMU though... Disappointed!
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

ozbob

That is an example of ' musical platforms ' James ...   :P

The Sunny Coast ' Dance of the trains ' is where a train pulls into a platform, then reverses out to go on a loop to allow an oncoming train platform access ... subtlety different ..
