Would love to be able to access the first person walk-through. Not the full BIM but the walk through would be awesome.  Urban planner not an engineer.

Cross River Rail benefits thousands of Queensland businesses

29th November 2023

Minister for Transport and Main Roads and Minister for Digital Services
The Honourable Mark Bailey

. Cross River Rail has benefitted more than 1500 Queensland businesses so far, and about 90 per cent of the project's total spend has been with Queensland companies.

. List of Queensland subcontractors includes Yatala-based Formcon, which has worked on various aspects of the project, including concreting at Exhibition station.

. Latest milestone comes as year-round Exhibition station takes shape.

Cross River Rail is providing a significant boost to the state's economy, with more than 1500 Queensland subcontractors and suppliers benefitting from the transformational project so far.

Cross River Rail injects around $70 million per month into the economy, around 90 per cent of which going to Queensland based suppliers.

So far more than1500 Queensland-based companies have been used to build Cross River Rail.

Civil construction company Formcon is just one example of the many Queensland subcontractors and suppliers to benefit so far.

The Yatala-based company, whose previous work on the project has included the tunnel portals – where trains enter and exit the twin tunnels – and station upgrades, is currently completing the concrete and reinforcement works on the new Exhibition station.

So far, the Formcon team – consisting of about 30 crew members, including one apprentice and three trainees – has completed about 3,700m3 of the roughly 5700m3 of concrete for the new station, as well as 1000 tonnes of approximately 1350 tonnes of steel reinforcement.

Formcon's significant contribution has meant Exhibition station is really taking shape, coming on the back of even more progress on site with the new 150-metre-long station canopy installed earlier this month.

When complete, Exhibition station will operate daily – not just for events – providing new rail services to the growing Brisbane Showgrounds precinct and the Royal Brisbane and Women's Hospital.

Quotes attributed to Transport and Main Roads Minister Mark Bailey:

"Not only will Cross River Rail transform travel across South East Queensland in the future, but this megaproject is providing real economic benefits to the state now.

"More than 1500 businesses right here in Queensland have benefitted from Cross River Rail, with about 90 per cent of the project's total spend to date with them.

"Wherever possible, we've looked to use local subbies and suppliers to build Cross River Rail, only looking further afield when specialised equipment or skills makes it necessary.

"It's meant great local businesses like Formcon have been able to benefit from the project, helping them to expand and put on more staff.

"Seeing the incredible progress across the sites, including at Exhibition station, is even more exciting when you realise this is a megaproject made for Queenslanders by Queenslanders.

"Thank you to Formcon and all of our suppliers, subcontractors and workforce who are helping to make this transformational project a reality."

Quotes attributed to Formcon Managing Director Steve Pamenter:

"Formcon is incredibly proud to be contributing to a game-changing project the size and scale of Cross River Rail.

"On Exhibition station alone, our crew is undertaking all the form, reinforcement and concrete pouring works, which includes the two rail bridges, station foundations, lift wells, slab on the ground and precast shear walls.

"But we've had opportunities right across the project, including Albert Street early works, the northern and southern portals, Mayne Yard and Fairfield, Rocklea, Dutton Park, Yeerongpilly and Salisbury stations.

"Our work on Cross River Rail has meant we've been able to expand our operations and at the same time reinvest in local resources, materials, plant and equipment.

"We've been able to put on apprentices and trainees to help skill the next generation of workers, and our crew is able to work locally without being away from their families and mates."

Couriermail --> 'Gross incompetence': Palaszczuk gov's four-year report delay $

QuoteThe state government has been accused of "gross incompetence" after it released a report summarising contract deals for its multibillion-dollar train infrastructure project nearly four years after it was supposed to be tabled to parliament.

The Courier-Mail understands the Cross River Rail Delivery Authority only became aware of the error after it was noted in a soon-to-be-released report from the Auditor-General, with the extraordinary delay being blamed on an "administrative oversight".

The project summary for the Tunnel, Stations and Development Public Private Partnership, which summarises key contract and selection processes relating to the Cross River Rail construction, was completed in March, 2020. ...

Question on Notice
No. 1435
Asked on 15 November 2023

MR S MINNIKIN ASKED MINISTER FOR TRANSPORT AND MAIN ROADS AND MINISTER
FOR DIGITAL SERVICES (HON M BAILEY)

QUESTION:

With reference to the Queensland Audit Office Major Projects 2022 report that the Tunnels,
Stations and Development contract includes 'a 25-year agreement for ongoing maintenance
services' and information provided by the Minister in Question on Notice No. 1018 of 2023 that
Queensland Rail is responsible for ongoing routine maintenance in the tunnel—
Will the Minister provide clarity on the maintenance responsibilities of each party involved in the
Cross River Rail project (excluding rollingstock)?

ANSWER:

I thank the Member for Chatsworth for the question.

The Tunnels, Stations and Development works package is a public private partnership between
the Queensland Government and the Pulse Consortium for the design and construction of the
Cross River Rail tunnel and underground stations. It includes a 25-year facilities maintenance
contract for the tunnel itself, specific tunnel systems such as ventilation, drainage pumps and fire
systems, and maintenance of the four underground stations, including cleaning services.

Queensland Rail will be responsible for maintaining assets in the tunnels that are similar to those
already in use across the Queensland Rail network, including track, rail, signalling (and
telecommunications) and overhead power, utilising the expertise and efficiency of resources
already within the organisation.

Surprised to read this detail. I assume the ownership sits with QR/TMR.

A fawning department will have laid out a full round of inspections so Mr Mellish gets a good understanding of all his project 'toys'. Perhaps on Day 10 or so he should turn his ministerial eye to that which is not there -- such as the Sunshine Coast Line / Direct Sunshine Coast Line works. Much promised and long delayed. It would be worth a visit north just for a meat pie at the bakery opposite the Landsborough Railway Station.

Same $hit, different smell IMO. Hopefully he can change my mind.

Major change of mind needed as eluded too by Bob in the newspaper yesterday.

Stillwater

The Miles Government is all about 'new broom sweeps clean'. Mr Bailey was known as 'Blowout Bailey', perhaps Mr Mellish should aim to be 'Smart Bart'. He could send a message to his department by asking the Premier to change his ministerial title from Minister for Transport and Main Roads etc to 'Minister for Transport' (drop main roads reference). Roads are just one means of transport and should not be elevated above other modes. References to TMR should go, replaced by DoT. The roadies in transport would get the message hopefully.

I noticed in the CRR Photo of the Main Yard East there is a new road to the depot/offices which is very close to the new DOWN CRR. It is hard to tell if this is at grade but it look like it is.  It also looks like there are only 7 stabling lines in the North West shorter group of stabling lines but the drawings show 8, I can see the logic of the road but it does look like the stabling has changed.

It also look like the lines to the left of the new road are being retained (the OHE, sleepers and ballast look new) when the drawings shows they will be removed.

Should there be a Project Change for it or is it not material enough.
