SEQ: Bus improvements welcome

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has welcomed the significant bus improvements to come into service from Monday 31st October (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"From Monday there are a number of significant bus improvements (1).  Increases in bus frequency will further encourage citizens to get out of their 'congestion cocoons' on the roads and relax.  Using the go card in a smart manner saves citizens money, and leads to broader community economic benefits such as reduced congestion, lowered environmental impacts and a significant reduction in the massive health sector financial and social costs of road trauma (2)"

"A core high frequency network is being progressively built.  The missing piece though is an improved out of peak service frequency on all rail lines (3). The stage 2 rail timetable review provides an opportunity to start to maximise the utility of the rail network and increase frequencies."

"An improved out of peak rail frequency facilitates functional bus/rail connections and further encourages maximum public transport use, with an increased fare box return."
