Not sure how many of these have been posted up here, but here's all the October 31st changes I can see on TL so far:

New timetable for route 590 services: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1318222412
More frequent and reliable services for Park Ridge: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1317959945
More early morning trips for route 222: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316661936
Route 192 minor timetable changes: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1318997491
Queen St bus station stop changes: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316657233
Get on board the high frequency route 180: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1317174602
Minor timetable changes for 171, 172, P173 & P176: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1317779711
More services for routes 174 and 175: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316662906
Get home sooner with the 170: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316662246
Minor timetable changes on routes 134, 135 and 155: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1318980267
Timetable changes on routes 110 and 115: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1318979698
Stay out late with more 111 services: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316498421
Turn up and go on the high frequency route 100: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1316656499
Catch the P88 from Indooroopilly Shopping Centre: http://translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/bulletin/1317952948

These all look good. As a new plus, as far as I could see many of the related ones (eg: the routes having minor timetable changes due to the Queen St bus station routes shuffle) all linked to each other when they explain why the change is occurring. :-t

Had anyone heard anything about the Park Ridge changes?

I find it very tiresome that TransLink does not list all of these changes together.  In Adelaide, they will put large service changes together in one hit on the Admet website so it is all easy to find.

Glad to see the 100 BUZ (and to a lesser extent the 180 BUZ) announced.  About time that big hole in the BUZ network was filled.  I had to have a bit of a laugh at this bit though:

QuoteIf you live in or around Inala, Forest Lake, Oxley or Moorooka and you're looking for a no hassle trip in and out of the city, route 100 is the one for you - by travelling via Ipswich Road into the South East Busway at Woolloongabba, you avoid all the congestion on Coronoation Drive for a smooth trip in and out of the city.

They don't seem to mention that Ipswich Rd can get very congested also.

Glad to see the ridiculous loop at Woodridge Station for the 545 has been fixed too, that was one of my pet hates about that route!

Tiresome for you or I but how many passengers want all that info... most people only use segmented parts of the network.

QuoteCatch the P88 from Indooroopilly Shopping Centre
From Monday 31 October, prepaid route 88 will now stop at the Indooroopilly bus interchange after starting at bus stop 24A on Musgrave Road.

With routes P88 and 444, there are now two high frequency bus options heading into City.

Route P88 runs from Indooroopilly to Eight Mile Plains via Coronation Drive and the City, every 10 minutes during peak, and every 15 minutes off peak between 6am–8pm.

Route P88 stops at the King George Square and Roma Street busway stations in the City, as well as Wesley Hospital, Griffith University, Milton business precinct, Brisbane Boys College and shopping centres at Garden City, Toowong, and Indooroopilly.

This is overdue. Perhaps the first period was more or less a trial, and now they've decided to keep it and get it colocated with 444. It really should have been from the get go tho, the stop where it was located was 3 or 4 nasty driveways on a sh*tty little footpath away from the other buses, and not even mapped.

Route 180....

from looking at the before and after timetable, it looks like this is the change (just looked at inbound)

M-F 39x180 -> 66x180
    (179, 181, 186 and 189, no or minor changes)
Sat 29x180 -> 66x180
Sun 17x180 -> 66x180

That is a substantial improvement in frequency that many routes are lacking. Bring on HFP... even if the P is so far missing!

dwb

Route 100....

from looking at the before and after timetable it looks like this is the change (just looked at inbound scheduled services)

M-F, 31x100 -> 79x100
Sat, 15x100 -> 66x100
Sun, 13x100 -> 66x100

The old timetable had 100, 110, 115 and 118 together. This is now 100 and 118 combined, and separately 110 and 115 combined.

dwb

Route 590....

They say they've kept the same frequency but adjusted scheduled times.

Seems like the first timetable they issued must have been highly optimistic, either that or the replacement is highly pessimistic, they've added upto 14mins travel time from origin to destination on the schedule so what had been a 46min journey is now a 1hr scheduled journey from DFO to Garden City interchange.

It doesn't matter - Adelaide's method is superior for people like us and equally useful to anybody else, and should in fact involve LESS work.

Anecdotally, it was very hard to keep to time even on lightly patronised weekend services.

Toombul extension needed, or at least a 358 extension and upgrade (which would be partially funded by withdrawing the 308 to be replaced by this and better Toombul-Chermside services).  I have a feeling we will end up with the upgraded 358 option, which is not optimal - no driver's facilities, no passenger areas except for a single bus stop, no connection to rail or other bus services.

Sorry for long quote with no table formatting... that's the way it copies in... :(

"Minor", usually means service disruption, and "service note" in many of these listed here means route/timetable change consultation.

QuoteAbout buses

There are over 400 bus routes in the TransLink network, and over 12,600 stops. Approximately 330,000 trips are taken daily on buses. Busways are an important part of the TransLink network as they are dedicated roads just for buses and offer passengers a congestion-free journey on fast and frequent and reliable services.

For a newspaper like the Courier Mail, perhaps, but most coverage of this will be in local quests and they don't want to know everything else, just what is applicable to their catchment.

It was annoying but if the 88 is to achieve in both directions, the 4xx expresses + all stops will still underachieve O/B due to the city stop locations.

The system is still mediocre over all.

From my point of view, I actually think the website has become less navigable over time - this table is one of the big reasons.  You have to open up heaps of windows to find anything of use.  It also does not help that the announcements are so impermanent and vanish from the front page so quickly.

The web is about now, you can fight it, or you can design a good website for now.

This service updates page is the comprehensive list you were looking for and I accessed it with one click from the homepage... I hovered over Travel Information, then selected Current status and upcoming changes.... is it really that hard?

Yes, it might be night to separate out the "this bus stop is temporarily closed/relocated" from the major announcements, but that is a minor minor useability thing... The only other slight bugbears I currently have about the website is that a) Go card transfer rules aren't in the menu, you really do have to click through successive pages and b) the go card login link is only nestled at the top right of all pages, and is not also easily accessed from the hover menu (which is the place that newbies would probably look for it!).

Translink however could do MUCH better in all it's printed forms of communication and I think that is where customer improvements should be targeted once "Customer First" (aka realtime and mapping project) is trialled late this year and hopefully launched early next. I'm thinking stop timetables, route timetables, maps etc.

I especially love the change to the journey planner to force this.  It should give you the detail of all the options it is presenting without requiring an additional click.

I completely disagree about this website being better than 131500.com.au in almost every way.

It's harder than it was before the last redesign, less comprehensive, less obvious and frankly not as good as it used to be in many respects - so yes.  In particular, things have a tendency of either not being comprehensive or of picking up irrelevant services, which is more of a quality control issue than an inherent problem in the current design.

But getting a bit off topic and I certainly don't mean to detract from the relatively good changes that are the actual subject of discussion.

Transport and Multicultural Affairs
The Honourable Annastacia Palaszczuk
26/10/2011

Bus package delivers another 62,000 weekly seats

Brisbane's southern suburbs are getting more buses as part of a major improvement package that will deliver two new high frequency bus routes in the outer suburbs from the end of the month.

Transport Minister Annastacia Palaszczuk said the bus package, worth more than four million dollars, would add 62,000 new weekly seats from October 31.

Ms Palaszczuk said an extra 680 weekly services would be added to route 100 (Forest Lake-City) and another 534 new weekly off-peak services for route 180 (Garden City-City).

"We know people along these routes want to catch the bus and we want to make it as easy as possible for them," Ms Palaszczuk said.

"High frequency routes mean you can throw out the timetable as you can basically turn up and go.

"People in the city have been enjoying these high frequency services and now so can people in the south west.

"High frequency routes run at least every 10 minutes in peak and every 15 minutes off-peak between 6am and 11pm.

"Route 100 provides a vital link for residents in Forest Lake, Durack and Inala, particularly for many students in the Moorooka and Ipswich Road corridor.

"This will substantially boost off-peak services and connections with the Princess Alexandra Hospital and the South East Busway.

"The route 180 upgrade includes a boost to off-peak services which will benefit residents of Mansfield and Holland Park.

"The upgrade expands the operating hours particularly across the weekend and also provides high frequency services for staff and students of the Metropolitan South Institute of TAFE, Mount Gravatt for the first time."

Ms Palaszczuk said this latest bus package followed the 103,590 weekly seats added to the network via the Eastern Busway and corridor bus package from August 29.

She said the Queensland Government had added more than 600,000 new weekly seats to the TransLink network in the last two years.

New timetables and details of the upcoming bus package are available at www.translink.com.au.

More frequent and reliable services for Park Ridge

A more frequent and reliable bus network is coming...

From Monday 31 October, some bus routes in the southern region around Park Ridge will change to improve the frequency and reliability of services in your local area.

We want to make it easier for you to get to where you need to go by catching public transport, so we're adding a number of new services to give you a standard 30 minute peak and 60 minute off-peak frequency for most routes.
Which services are changing?
Route 534 (Browns Plains to Orion Springfield Town Centre)

    Sunday services will be introduced for the very first time, making the 534 a seven day service.
    There will be changes to trip times to make the service run more efficiently; make sure you check the updated timetable when available.

Route 540 (Beaudesert to Brisbane City)

    To allow for better access to Beaudesert High School the first inbound and outbound services will leave 10 minutes earlier.

Route 541 (Browns Plains to Greenbank)

    Additional services will be introduced during the week, providing a 30 minute peak frequency:
        two new PM (outbound) services heading to Greenbank
        one new AM (inbound) service heading to Browns Plains
        one new PM (inbound) service heading to Browns Plains.
    An additional PM (inbound) service to Browns Plains and PM (outbound) service to Greenbank will also be introduced on Saturdays.
    There will be changes to trip times to make the service run more efficiently; make sure you check the updated timetable when available.

Route 542 (Browns Plains to Park Ridge)

    Additional services will be introduced during the week, providing a 30 minute peak frequency:
        three new AM (outbound) services heading to Park Ridge
        one new AM (inbound) service to Browns Plains.
    There will be changes to trip times to make the service run more efficiently, so please ensure you check the updated timetable.

Route 543 (Browns Plains to Heritage Park)

    Additional services will be introduced during the week, providing a 30 minute peak frequency:
        two new AM (outbound) services heading to Heritage Park
        two new PM (outbound) services heading to Heritage Park
        three new PM (inbound) services heading to Browns Plains.
    There will be changes to trip times to make the service run more efficiently; make sure you check the updated timetable when available.

Route 544 (Browns Plains to Forestdale)

    Additional services will be introduced during the week, providing a 30 minute peak frequency:
        one new AM peak service and two new PM peak services will be added.
    Existing short trips will be extended so all services travel the full route, servicing each major stop along the route.
    There will be changes to trip times on the weekend to make the service run more efficiently; make sure you check the updated timetable when available.

Route 545 (Garden City to Browns Plains)

    A new bus stop will be installed at Woodridge train station, which will reduce travel times. Instead of looping around Croydon Road, Blackwood Road and Carmody Street, this new stop will be conveniently located on Station Road, just outside the station.
    Additional services will also be introduced:
        two new PM (outbound) services to Browns Plains on weekdays
        one new (outbound) evening service to Browns Plains on Saturdays
        one new (inbound) evening service to Garden City on Saturdays.
    Existing short trips will be extended so all services travel the full route, servicing each major stop along the route.
    Additional running time will be added to improve service reliability.
    There will be changes to trip times on the weekend to make the service run more efficiently; make sure you check the updated timetable when available.

"High frequency routes run at least every 10 minutes in peak and every 15 minutes off-peak between 6am and 11pm.

They must not have got the memo from CSEQ that HFP only means until 9pm at night... and don't even match BUZ. Why not just match it to BUZ and then call it BUZ?!

Ipswich Rd is usually a car park in peak hours between Annerley Rd & the Clem 7 tunnel. Where is the bus/transit lane between Beaudesert Rd & Woolloongabba?

SEQ: Bus improvements welcome

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has welcomed the significant bus improvements to come into service from Monday 31st October (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"From Monday there are a number of significant bus improvements (1).  Increases in bus frequency will further encourage citizens to get out of their 'congestion cocoons' on the roads and relax.  Using the go card in a smart manner saves citizens money, and leads to broader community economic benefits such as reduced congestion, lowered environmental impacts and a significant reduction in the massive health sector financial and social costs of road trauma (2)"

"A core high frequency network is being progressively built.  The missing piece though is an improved out of peak service frequency on all rail lines (3). The stage 2 rail timetable review provides an opportunity to start to maximise the utility of the rail network and increase frequencies."

"An improved out of peak rail frequency facilitates functional bus/rail connections and further encourages maximum public transport use, with an increased fare box return."

Browns Plains and Park Ridge commuters to benefit from bus improvements

Friday 28 October 2011

Browns Plains and Park Ridge commuters will see the benefit of almost 5000 new weekly seats being added to local bus services from Monday morning (October 31).

TransLink's Acting CEO Matt Longland said the changes would boost the efficiency of the existing route 534, 540, 541, 542, 543, 544, 545 and P546 buses servicing Browns Plains and Park Ridge, adding more than 20 additional weekly trips across the region.

"More buses will be available when customers need them most, during peak periods, with eight additional services being added during the morning and 12 in the afternoon," Mr Longland said.

"The additional services will provide customers with greater frequency as most buses will operate every 30 minutes during peak and every 60 minutes off-peak.

"As part of the change, Sunday services will be introduced for the first time on route 534 (Browns Plains to Orion Springfield Town Centre), which will provide residents with a seven day cross-town service."

Mr Longland said some routes, service times and stops would also change as part of the service upgrade.

"In addition to extra services, customers will notice amended travel times and timetables on services in the region," Mr Longland said.

"To improve service reliability, routes 544 (Browns Plains to Forestdale) and 545 (Garden City to Browns Plains) will be extended to operate the full route and all buses will service all major stops along the route.

"Changes will also be made to a couple of stops on routes P546 (Park Ridge to Brisbane City) and 545 (Garden City to Browns Plains).

"Route P546 buses will no longer service Stop 5 Ann Street in Brisbane City and route 545 buses will service the new stop at Woodridge train station.

"As improvements are occurring throughout the region, I would recommend customers visit the TransLink website and make sure they are up-to-date with what is happening in the local area."

Timetable and service information are available on the TransLink website www.translink.com.au or the Call Centre on 13 12 30, anytime.

Route 180....

from looking at the before and after timetable, it looks like this is the change (just looked at inbound)

M-F 39x180 -> 66x180
    (179, 181, 186 and 189, no or minor changes)
Sat 29x180 -> 66x180
Sun 17x180 -> 66x180

That is a substantial improvement in frequency that many routes are lacking. Bring on HFP... even if the P is so far missing!

SImilar great changes happened on the 120 route when it was BUZ'ed. What is HFP???????

Golliwog

HFP stands for High Frequency Priority, and is Translink's name for BUZ. Last I checked, BUZ is a BT only thing or something ridiculous like that.

Yep, BUZ is a BT term. Translink considers a route "high frequency" if it's high frequency until 9pm, whereas BT has their own standards (until 11).

Anyone happen to be around Cultural Centre to see it in peak (either morning or afternoon)?

somebody

When a route is BUZed, it's usually only routes which are already at the peak BUZ level which get the nod.  I don't expect any difference at CC.

Golliwog

No, although there was a line of buses at the Melbourne St portal back to the top of the slope between the portal and South Bank busway station. This would have been around 8.45am, towards the end of peak so not entirely sure if it was related. They really need to get their act together to either remove those traffic lights altogether or change the phasing again to give buses a bigger share of the green time.

Brisbanetimes --> Boost to bus services today

I didn't realise the 180 was a new route!

Spence Howson on 612 ABC this morning made the same mistake, stating that 180 was a new route.

Case in point - there are numerous other Surfside changes happening on 7 November, none of which are actually prominently displayed unless you search for the timetable and happen to note the service update.  Without somebody with inside knowledge prompting me, I would not even have noticed these.

I don't think the station could cope with a longer green time, it's full as is.
What's really needed is, simply, less buses in that corridor :)
