Weather disruptions Metro and VLine 28 Sep 2011

Melbourne has had a major weather event this afternoon, storms with heavy rain.  Gippsland line is out as is Bendigo.  Some other disruptions

The radar earlier this afternoon looked like a tropical storm ...

Gippsland line

Services on the Gippsland line have been suspended until further notice. Limited buses available so major delays expected.

Bendigo line

Services now operating through to Bendigo. However delays of approximately 30 minutes are expected.

All other lines

Are so far unaffected. But trains may experience minor delays.

Gippsland line

Trains leaving Melbourne have been suspended due to signal faults near Dandenong. Major delays expected.

Bendigo line

Service now operating through to Bendigo. However delays of approximately 30 minutes are expected.

Bendigo line

The following trains have been cancelled:

    16:15 Southern Cross - Bendigo
    16:52 Southern Cross - Bendigo
    16:20 bendigo - Southern Cross

Buses will replace these services. Please allow additional travel time.

All other lines

Are so far unaffected. But trains may experience minor delays.

Lightning strikes have damaged signalling and trains are not likely to be running. Long delays are expected as buses are arranged to take people home. Please allow additional travel time.

Update; All lines now operating. Bendigo & Gippsland lines still delayed due to congestion but movement is occuring slowly.
