Hello all

I saw in http://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=4590.0 or POLL: Which BUZ down Ipswich Road?

In there someone asked - Is it just me or does the 100 take some strange roads around Inala and Forest lake Shopping Centre.

Since the post was old I just though I would make a new post.

So how history goes is:

Inala, Durack, Oxley and Darra in 1987 was served by Routes 1, 2, 3 (Current 101), 4, 5 and 6, run by South Western Transit (Still I believe 50% owned by them, current routes 101, 102, 103, 122).

These services ran from 5:00am to 7:00pm Mon-Fri to Oxley or Darra station and to Acaica Ridge and 3 peak hour services to Salisbury. (Weekend Services did run too)

To go via bus anywhere you had to catch the bus to Learoyd Road Stop and switch to a Cityxpress 521 (Current 110) service to the City (MacArthur Chambers) or P.A.H.
Had to switch at Moorooka South Stop 38 for QEII, Griffth Uni and Carindale (Basically the GCL) and at the P.A.H for the Mater Hospital.

That information is from an 1987 South Western Timetable, LOL.

Now a bit later on, so somewhere between 1988 and 1992 the Cityxpress 521 changed and became the Cityxpress 530 and 531.

The Cityxpress 530 (Via Capitan Cook Bridge)  was a every 30mins bus from City from stop Kangaroo B (Currently where the 200 Buz leaves from) and terminated at Learoyd Road Stop - So it the same as the 110 without going to Inala.

The Cityxpress 531 (Via Capitan Cook Bridge) however went from the City to Inala as the 110 does now. It only ran every 2 hours and last service was about 9:30pm. They put Banana Buses on that route then, not like now.

They were always jammed to the max, nothing has changed much, lol.

At the same time the 111 rocket (Via South Bank) (Currently the 100 Cityxpress, starting at the Inala Plaza, no forest lake) ran to the City. It was a true rocket, it only set-down passengers along Ipswich Road in the morning and pick-up in the afternoon. (Via South Bank)

The most likely reason why the 111 rocket goes though Durack is that the time most the local services would connect with the bus along the Serviceton Ave, Durella St and Akama Rd. The section from Durella Street to Inala ave, was going to be all housing and no Durack common. In the 1987 map Akama Road was to connect with Inala Ave. Later 1991/2 map Durang Street was to connect to the street where the skating ring was. Basiclly servicing a newer area of Brisbane. Just like how Parkwood has got the 118 Rocket and no other cityxpress service yet.

It was also a full fare service, so no concession fares.

Then in 1998/9 the Brisbane City councils new bus numbering system came in and the numbers changed to their current numbers.

The bus stop also moved from Kangaroo B to Currently at A1, sometime between 1998 - 2000.

In 2000 the 111 rocket became the 100 cityxpress (Weekday Only) with forest lake section added on to service the new Grand ave section of Forest Lake and Joseph Banks ave (Due to the 460 looping via College Ave and not using Joseph Banks Ave.

In 2004 the 100 cityxpress in it's own right, without the 110 cityxpress affecting it's service.

I think the 115 was added then too, not sure on that though.

Now the 100 service is more popular then the 110 and in peak hour has more buses than it, but all other times the 110 still has more services has it has got the legacy factor of beening the first service.

118 Rocket was added 2008 to reduce overcrowding on the 100, it hasn't worked. Great service for Forest Lake People, no good for Durack and Inala people. We should have a Rocket as well.

Now if only the 100 would meet there 2012/3 cityxpress guidelines now and become a BUZ service soon, that would be great.

So that is the story of the 100 and the 110 Bus routes.

Sorry if the post is too long.

Bye
Damo
