SEQ:  Fair fares, help the Premiers Disaster Relief Appeal

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has called on regular public transport commuters who are able to donate the money they would have spent on fares this week to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal (1).

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Free public transport is available on the TransLink network up to and including Friday 21st January 2011 (2)."

"The free public transport will particularly assist those who have suffered loss as a result of the floods. It will also assist in reducing unnecessary vehicle movements on the struggling road system."

"Many RAIL Back On Track members will be donating at least the equivalent of their normal weekly fare costs to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal.  We call on other public transport users to please consider donating the fares saved to the appeal as well."

"Donating is easy. Donations can be made on the Queensland Government website, www.qld.gov.au/floods, and also in person at any Queensland branch of the Bank of Queensland (BoQ), Commonwealth Bank, Westpac, ANZ, NAB, Suncorp, St George Bank, Bank West, Bank SA, Australian Central Credit Union and the Savings and Loans Credit Union. People can also make donations at Coles Supermarkets and cheques can be made out to the Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal."

"Thank you!"

Well the buses have empty fare boxes, all they need to do is collect whatever cash the passengers give them.
Simple.

1000 buses out there collecting money for donations will add up hugely very quickly.
Fareboxes are empty, may as well 'convert' them into donation collection receptacles.
Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.
