Oxley Station to receive $2.3 million upgrade

There are drainage issues all right.  A couple of years ago I was told that work would include some drains along the subway (behind the walls) to fix the seepage, when the walls were fixed up and strengthed (cracking due to movement from above).  None of this was done.  There are considerable amounts of water that come though and more often than not there are safety cones (be careful of the wet floor).  Outside the subway up side there was a very bad seepage spot which required an ag drain to resolve.  The solution to the leak around the light fixture in the down side access ramp was to plug it up with goo.  I kid you not, there is a big blob of goo around the light fixture wiring where the water ran down.  My concern is that in a few years the subway will need to be re-done.  It gets battered from overhead with all the coalies.

Fair enough. My point is though, the water does have to go somewhere. They can't just plug up all the leaks and holes and say "Tah dah, no more water in the tunnel." IMO it's not the holes in the walls that are the problem (the ones you can see in the last two drainage pics you put up) but rather what they have in the floor of the tunnel. The two circle drains shown appear inadequate. My opinion would be not to dig up the track and put more drainage behind the wall (unless they already have, in which case good on them) but rather to put some narrow strip drains along the edges to collect the water.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

At the time of the original rebuild for platform 3 one of the project engineers commented that the western wall of the subway was to be reinforced with bored piles under the track for platform 2 to strengthen the wall to carry the load and that this would reduce the water flow into the subway, this was not done so the problem remains and eventually no doubt at some time in the future they will have to close the down main, lift the track instal the bored piles to reinforce the wall and construct a new roof on the subway to distribute the load.
Obviously the bean counters rather than the engineers had the final say on this one.

The subway, unfortunately the cracks are becoming evident again already and detoriation in the cover is now apparent ..  which simply reinforces what we have been suggesting that better remedial works should have been done prior to the 'tart-up' ...

The bus stop A and kiss and ride are finished, overall a nice appearance

Dropped by Oxley station this morning.  Jack hammering on platforms 2/1.  Further extensive drainage works are being done on the seepage/soak area near the portal footing immediately up from Oxley bus stop A.  Noted some discoloured flow in the subway itself which appears to becoming from the down side.

I spoke to some locals at Oxley this morning. The large tree infront of the station (bus stop A) is apparently going to be removed, wait for it ... for two more car park spaces for disabled access!  This has more than few upset, the tree is actually a good shade tree and at different times of the year has considerable bird populations, as well as improving the esthetics generally.  There are some spaces for disabled access all ready (which are rarely used), and a couple more can be done on the western up car park easily enough.

Also there is a lot of disquite with the stair closures.  It beggers belief that the stairs are being redone again.  The amount of money wasted at Oxley is starting to be questioned by many. We had the great fiasco with Bus Stop B, now the great stair fiasco.  Apparently, still weeks before the stairs are finished ...

I hope that TrackStar is paying for these stuff-ups.  Not exactly their best SEQIPRail contribution.

Not to mention the great Oxley Railway station pedestrian bridge fiasco

I think that you will find that Trackstar has only done what they have been told to do and has not been allowed to do what has been required, had Trackstar been allowed to do from the start with the subway it would have stopped the ingress of water.
To this time that problem has not been solved and has actually cost more than it would have to have carried out the work that remains required to be done under the up main had it been done while what is now the up main was being reconstructed.
The blame lies with Queensland Transport and SEQIP and the ongoing problem still remains.

Called into Oxley this morning. Stairs down from Bus Stop A into subway, and stairs up to platforms 1/2 still closed off.  Not much progress by the look of it.

Subway is messier than ever.

Dropped by Oxley this morning.  Subway looks a bit more presentable.  Work still being carried out on the stairs.  Station building has been painted.  Still a way to go though by the looks of things.

Overall a terible waste of money, with what has been spent so far on the lets do it on the cheap, sorry that did not work lets do it again, oh that did not do it either so do it again and hope eventualy we might get it right planning approach the platforms could have been raised, the subway fixed properly, (it still leaks and the cracks in the wall are still there) the steps and bus stops done and the station building refurbished in character rather than the present hotchpotch of styles that is less passenger friendly than the original.
Still they tried.

I agree the amount of money spent could have lifted the original building off the platform, rebuilt the station as a modern 4 platform station, built a proper concourse and plonked the old building back down again.

Correct Mufreight.  Goo in light sockets, plastering over cracks without fixing the underlying cause ... it all smacks of botched quick fixes.  QR is spreading its dollars so thinly that it is not getting value for money.  Our money.  Do it right first time -- isn't that what the TAFE teachers advise students?

I think there should've been a better attempt to spruce up the bus interchange. At the moment, it's very, very dark, especially at night, and I'm concerned for the general safety of the area. I'm surprised the lights weren't replaced!

As for the platform upgrade, it's starting to look rather acceptable. I do hope there's enough money left in the bank to re-surface the platform though.

Stairs to platforms 1/2 in use again. Not sure when re-opened.

Snap from the train.

Its been open for a while now. Since the 18th or something.

Gazza

Meant to post this, but last Sunday morning there was a waterproofing contractors van at the station...Didn't actually see what they were doing since they weren't in the subway at the time, but nice to think they might have been working on the problem.

Might have helped the subway Gazza, seemed a bit drier this morning ..

It's really good to see Oxley getting the new LCD PIDS. It's always terribly confusing which train leaves from which platform at Oxley, as it changes quite frequently and is rather unpredictable.

Hopefully the old PIDS on Platform 3 get replaced too. I think they would serve well as hand-me-downs at Wacol or Goodna (no offence Bob), to provide some real-time information to those stations.

david

The new PIDS on Platforms 1 and 2 have been switched on. It's a pity that they're suffering from the same fate as the ones at Darra - that is, they're constantly flickering on and off and the image is a little too far to the right of the screen, which cuts off half the information.

Yes, had a look this morning.  The PIDs at the subway entrance (bus stop A side) seem to be a bit better but the left screen has not been properly centred as well.  Eastern end PID platform one was dead as well.  Hopefully these issues will be fixed, new equipment that is not functioning correctly from day one is a poor effort, maybe they have not had their final installation checks or something??
