Oxley rail station, bus stop B ?

Can anyone shed any light on what is going on with bus stop B at Oxley rail please?

See the photographs below.  It appears that the kerbside works where the stop is meant to be (see position of overhead shelter and line markings on road) is botched or something, the temporary construction barriers have been there for months and months now (at least 10 months ...).   I suspect there are 'discussions' between various parties as to whom is responsible for fixing it.

Clearly it is time it was sorted.

This is a diagram showing where the bus is meant to be stopping.

The bus stop sign should be back about 10 metres or so up the hill.

Media Release 1 February 2010

SEQ: Oxley bus stop B is not even B class

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport commuters has called for Oxley Bus Stop B to be fixed.  Standing as a testament to bureaucratic bungling for close to 12 months now, it is clearly time for the main players to get over organisational differences and sort it out.

Robert Dow, spokesperson for RAIL Back On Track said:

"Oxley citizens and commuters observe the Oxley bus stop B with some fascination and bemusement.  Temporary construction barriers have been where the bus stop should be for around an year now, and the bus stop sign placed down towards the the subway entrance."

"It is believed that a minor non compliance with some standards concerning slopes is the cause for this testament to smart state bungles."

"Can someone please stand up and fix the bus stop please? And while you are at it can something be done about the subway too? Seepage on the walls, constant water on the floor and now cracks in the concrete don't give a good impression for a station that is undergoing a major tax payer funded upgrade."

While they are at it .. can they also do something about the speed bumps placed on this road? This is a BCC Bus Route and there are about 10 large speedbumps on Ardoyne Road for a distance of about 500 metres or so.  :pr

You can see one in the picture that Bob put on here just in front of the nicely drawn bus. This one has a pedestrian crossing on it but there are similar ones just over the hill and around the bend into Cliveden Avenue.  :-w

It is absolutley ridiculous that speed bumps are placed on a Bus Route. Bus passengers are jostled almost out of their seats when a bus travels down this road. Try sitting on the back seat of the bus when it goes over one of these speed bumps. You almost hit your head on the roof of the bus.  :'(

Not to mention the speed bumps at the entrance to Indooroopilly bus station!

One of those two things are in the wrong place.... either the seat..... or the bus stop.... you challenge should you choose to accept it - is to decide which one

ozbob

I have received advice that works will start in the near future to complete the works for the ramp and the bus stop.

The water in the subway is being investigated as to a solution.

Two months on, and we still have the construction barriers in place, and nothing done.

It is such a difficult issue, the ramp has a grade of 1:13.8.  The gradient of slope is not to be less than 1:14.

The issue is trying to find someone to accept the blame for yet another stuff up ...

A true testament to bureaucratic bungling.   Oxley Bus Stop B.  Not a major public transport journey generator by any stretch of the imagination, but still important for those who do use the bus stop.  And the small matter of buses breaking the road rules to pick up, as well as obscuring the pedestrian crossing, which is why the road markings are as they are.  You would think 15 months or so would be enough time to get it sorted.

Subway still the same as well.

No change with Oxley bus stop B.  I have enquired if anything is happening.  Subway is still a mess.

I think its ridiculous that its taken this long. But maybe (hopefully) they are trying to get a 4th platform built at Oxley now, and as part of that will get the subway/bus stop fixed? Probably unlikely but it could happen.

Barrier worry

WALKING past the recently
renovated Oxley Railway
Station each morning along
Ardoyne Rd, I am becoming
more and more disgusted
with the "temporary" barriers
that appear to have
become permanent.
Every orifice is filled with
rubbish and as a convenient
smoker's wall, cigarette
butts are everywhere.

I have made enquiries about Oxley bus stop B.  But I don't get any response.  Have enquired again.

I saw a small group of 'official' looking types gathered at the Ardoyne Rd end of the subway this afternoon.  Maybe they came to have a look at this great example of bungle par excellence?

The logical construction of the 4th platform at Oxley was abandoned very early in the project Golliwog, along with the notion of electrification of the UP sub line as well.  It made too much sense to do as part of the overall project, it would have been efficient, logical, and cost effective.  The exact opposite that is the norm for transport policy in Queensland ...   :P

It is very funny to have a UP suburban line that cannot run suburban trains.  Only in the smart state ....    F A R C E !

Just a query from someone looking at the layout who never travels there.  If the bus stop was moved back to where you've drawn it in, would this cause a potential safety issue for traffic coming over that crest?

Golliwog

I have not been there in a while, but if I remember correctly, its not really much of a crest.

ozbob

No, it just looks that way in the photograph.  The bus stop is correctly located where the shelter is.  It will be moved there when they finally fix it.  I have heard that work may start soon to fix the footpath so that the slope can be corrected.  It has taken over 16 months to get a start. They had to clean out the barriers recently because they became full of rubbish.  The slope is 1 in 13.8, it is not meant to be steeper than 1 in 14, that was (is) the issue.

This is not just a simple fix, it is another major disruption for all. Traffic is relatively heavy along Ardoyne ... We are however grateful that it will be sorted of course.  But the money would have been better spent on additional sweeper services in the PM peak!

Are you saying that it could have been done better here?

ozbob

#24
Yes, it is a minor issue but is going to take a major fix.  The problem is the ramp.  Look at the scale of the work planned, one lane closed in Ardoyne 24/7 for the duration, round the clock traffic management for about two months! When the work was being done for platform 3 it should be have corrected then in the context of the massive disruption happening at that time.  Back to the future here ...

Complicating it all is the subway work as well.  There are closures of the subway overnight and everyone has to head out the Ardoyne side ...

Did someone mention co-ordination and planning (obviously missing in this instance) or is this part of the Queensland Blight's program for ensuring the creation of jobs ( the workers employed will now be remployed in a new job despite having only recently been dismissed when the previous works there were completed?) and the maximum of public attention to being seen to be doing something (which if done properly in the first place would not need to be being done at this stage, a bit like the platform height issue with the new and rebuilt platforms at Oxley and Darra).

ozbob

Work has started ...  Ardoyne Road down to a single lane, 24/7 traffic control ...

Access to platform 3 Oxley is now only by the eastern end.  Main thoroughfare now blocked off.  No warning to punters of course, hopeless ...

Sent a tweet to TransLinkSEQ ...

There has been no advance warning to passengers that access to platform 3 is only via the eastern end.  Late this afternoon I observed a down train arrive at platform 3, pax detrain and head for the entrance only to find it fenced off.  Bit of cussing and cursing and off they treked down the other end.  I tweeted TransLink yesterday in an attempt to get them to put up a notice, and some onboard train announcements would be useful as well.  No, nothing, let them eat cake I guess ..

How hard is it??

No response from TransLink re my tweet.  QR Passenger have responded and have ensured more signs and support at Oxley.  I spoke to QR Passenger at the Ipswich line CRG about the lack of proper support at Oxley on Wednesday evening.

I have emailed TransLink last evening with the following:

The main access to platform 3 Oxley was closed off for the correction works.  The tweet has not been responded too.

It is disappointing that a simple request to alert commuters is ignored.   Some advance warning for commuters would have been of benefit.

TransLink needs to lift its game ..

Will there be any plan to improve bus connections within the area?

ozbob

We hope so!  I think we might be waiting for a while though.  When the new timetable (rail) is done 2011 for the Ipswich - Caboolture line we might see some bus improvements too, not only at Oxley but Darra as well.
