A man has died, apparently from being electrocuted, after climbing on top of a train at Balaclava train station.

The man, believed to be in his 20s, has not been identified and police are still determining the exact cause of his death.

A statement issued by V/Line reads:

Emergency services are at the incident, which is south of Rileys Road, Woodvale about 160 kilometres north of Melbourne.

The train involved is the 12:50pm service from Swan Hill to Melbourne, with approximately 90 customers on board.

A V/Line manager at the scene has confirmed no one on the train has been seriously injured. One customer has been assessed by ambulance paramedics.

V/Line has sent two road coaches to the scene and customers are being safely escorted from the train onto the waiting coaches to continue their journey.

All train services have been suspended on the Swan Hill line until further notice.

Concerned customers should call V/Line on 1800 800 007.
