Reports of Ipswich bound service stopped at Taringa.  Suspicious package, train evacuated.

Just went down to Oxley station, train arrived enroute to Ipswich (approx 9.10pm), has travelled via Yeerongpilly.
Apparently second service via Yeerongpilly following the closure of line due to the incident at Taringa.

Not a good week.

Ahhh this might explain something that QR did not.

Ok got to the central station platforn 1 at 8.30pm Wednesday 12.12.07 to catch the 8.37pm to Oxley. I asked the nice QR staff if the train was a true 6 carriage because I need to get off at the end of the train near the Oxley footbridge. Yep confirmation from 2 x QR staff - yes it was a full 6 carriage train.

From here it went downhill - train pulled into the temporary platform 1 siding and unfortunately at 8.30pm only 3 carriages were in use. So a hundred or so passengers walked forwards to the three active carriages not very happy. Pls Pls Pls Pls QR can you tell passengers when a full 6 car unit is only going to be a 3 car operative unit - it would help lots of people to be in the right position at the right time to allow the right type of public transport solution to be implemented.

After a few terse words from me to one of the train staff who seemed oblivious to the chaos caused by only 3 of the 6 carriages being available - I bordered the train and it departed to Roma Street and then took a hundred or so passengers onto the train and after a few minutes we departed roma street railway station.

A very short time out of Roma Street station, the  train driver informed passengers who needed to go from milton to sherwood, they would need to depart the train at southbank. Confusion reigned. particularly those with a limited english language ability. I personally instructed a number of passengers that if they needed to get off if they were travelling to  auchenflower, toowong, taringa, indooroorilly, chelmer, graceville, sherwood and that they needed to get off NOW - at the first stop of the train.

Anyways the train then proceeded through a number of stations and stopping at corinda then Oxley (woohoo) and I detrained some 45 mins after arriving at central station for a simple 23 minuute train ride.

Hopefully the incident was successfully addressed and dealt with from a QR and passenger safety perspective and no one died or was seriously injured.

Thanks for your comments Mozz.

It does seem the lessons of good communication are taking a while to get through.

Incidents etc. will happen from time to time, but it is essential that passenger are briefed adequately, clear concise messages to avoid confusion.

Received advice that the suspicious package turned out to be a box of computer parts.

Glad it was only that.
