We now know that a 94% operational availability level is required from the existing fleet PLUS 18 NGR trains to meet the timetable to apply during next year's Commonwealth Games.  Consultants engaged by QR say that, in a conservative estimate, that cannot be met.  Hellooooooooo!

Couriermail --> Brisbane trains: Passengers stranded for up to an hour

QuoteCOMMUTERS were still facing minor delays on the Caboolture line almost three hours after passengers were reportedly left stranded on a train for more than an hour.

A commuter on the 5.59am Caboolture-Roma St service said passengers were stuck for more than an hour south of Narangba Station.

It is believed the passengers were evacuated onto the tracks and were taken by bus to Petrie Station.

It is understood buses were replacing trains between Petrie and Caboolture, with delays of up to 30 minutes northbound. Those delays had eased by 8.30am.

It comes after passengers were stuck on a Ferny Grove line train for two-and-a-half hours earlier this month. The passengers, who included young children, sat in total darkness for about one-third of the ordeal, unable to get off the train.

Queensland Rail chief executive Nick Easy said the train had experienced a mechanical issue between Narangba and Dakabin Stations.

"We learnt from the incident we had two weeks ago at Ferny Grove (so we) mobilised our crews immediately to go on site and made the decision to evacuate the passengers off the train," he said.

"At approximately 7.10am, passengers began safely evacuating from the service and were escorted to Thompson Road to commence further travel by coach."

Mr Easy said all other services on the Caboolture and Sunshine Coast lines were able to operate through the area and move around broken down train.

"We apologise for the inconvenience caused to all involved and thank our passengers for their patience," he said.

Goodbyeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee !

I really hope I can escape to Adelaide for the duration of the GC2018 rail fail.  It is going to be a most spectacular botch and embarrassment.   I will comfort myself on 15 minute services to Gawler.

#Metro

Looks like Rocket buses fired from Roma Street - Busway then M1 special lanes to the Gold Coast will have to be put on.

I think trains will be ripped off all other lines - Ferny Grove will go back to 30 minutes during the day, as will parts of the Cleveland line 30 minutes.

Doomben line could be closed. Perhaps a 3-car shuttle between Roma Street and Brisbane Airport. Kippa Ring trains terminated at Petrie.

Springfield trains reduced to 3 car and terminated at Darra.

Drastic, but it could be done.

^Should be trialled on weekends leading up to Games if it was to be implmented

Thanks Cazza. It is clear that QR is going to have modify the timetables majorly to have any hope of provided a basic connected service even now through to the Games and after.  It is getting worse not better by mile.

My thoughts too - Discussion - better ways of maintaining service with less trains/crew > https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=12844.

I will be raising this yet again later today.

Couriermail --> Long delays after fault at inner-city station

QuoteDELAYS continue on all train lines across the Brisbane rail network this evening.

Commuters are still facing delays of between 10 and 30 minutes after a points fault this afternoon.

So far five trains - three on the Beenleigh line, one on the Ferny Grove line and one on the Gold Coast line - have been cancelled due to the congestion on the tracks.

Transport Minister Jackie Trad has apologised to commuters caught out by delays this afternoon and flagged potential refunds.

"If there are people who experience significant delays I'll talk to my agency, to QR about what we can do and the possibility of refunds," she said.

"We run a large network and from time to time things go wrong, but can I just apologise to commuters who are experiencing delays.

"The good news is that delays have been reduced down to 10 — 30 minutes from 45 and trains are still moving through the network.

"QR is working to get to the bottom of the problem and will be expediting an investigation."

Queensland Rail CEO Nick Easy said the fault occurred on platform 8 at Roma Street Station about 4.33pm.

"Trains are continuing to run through the CBD, however as Queensland Rail works to rectify this issue and divert trains around Platform 8 on altered lines, some customers may experience delays between 10-30 minutes.

"We thank our customers for their patience."

Confused train commuters at Roma Street are being told to wait in the main thoroughfare of the station until the platform for their line is confirmed.

But the demand appeared to have eased off by 6.20pm, with crowds reducing to a trickle as peak hour draws to a close.

There were still delays on most lines, with a backlog of trains at South Bank.

QR staff were running around the station with walkie talkies telling commuters which platform to go to as the updates on the screens were lagging.

It was the third time in a month QR has been forced to apologise to inconvenienced commuters.

Last week commuters were left stranded for more than an hour on the Caboolture line due to a mechanical issue between Dakabin and Narangba.

And in early August passengers were trapped on a train on the Ferny Grove line for nearly three hours, with some forced to urinate on the floor or into a bottle. QR gave affected passengers free travel for a week.
