Visiting Adelaide for a few days early January, then onto Melbourne (flying, not clear yet if The Overland will be still running).

My last visit to Adelaide was January 2016, and there has been a bit happen PT wise since then:

1. Bus tunnel  for O-Bahn ( O-Bahn City Access Project )

2. Tram extension should be in use (driver training has started) City Tram Extension

3. Sparking of the Gawler line underway.

4. Torrens Rail Junction Project completed.

Plus the usual opportunities on the rail and bus network.

I'm planning a trip at some point prior to 30 November, assuming the tram extension is open by then.  Need to make a select number of additional flights by then to maintain those sweet, sweet platinum benefits.

When I was Adelaide last I obtained a metrocard visitor pass.  These are good value for unrestricted 3 day travel.

At the end of the 3 days you can recharge and use it like a regular metrocard.

So I have setup an online metrocard account.  Card is still valid, so I will be be able to put credit on it before I travel in January. Recharges are subject to a 90 day expiry, the metrocard must be validated within 90 days to receive the recharge. I will not be using the metrocard until 2 Jan 2019, which is 116 days yet.  So I will wait obviously until well under the 90 days.

In this video we take a visit to the newly opened O-Bahn tunnel. Built as part of the $160 million O-Bahn City Access Project, the tunnel allows O-Bahn buses an uninterrupted run from the start of the busway at Park Road to the CBD. The project comprised of an underground tunnel from Grenfell Street in the CBD to Hackney Road, then bus lanes along Hackney Road to the start of the busway.

In this video we visit the western tunnel portal at Grenfell street in the CBD. Here we see some of the typical buses that operate on the O-Bahn including Scania K230UB's, K280UB's and K320UA's with Custom Coaches 'CB60 Evo II' & 'CB80 bodies'. We also see some regular Adelaide Metro bus services at the intersection of Grenfell St & East Terrace.

The O-Bahn busway is one of the few examples in the world of a guided busway. The busway runs out towards Modbury in Adelaide's northeastern suburbs. Stage 1 of the project from Park Road to Paradise Interchange opened in 1986, while stage 2 to Tea Tree Plaza opened in 1989. The O-Bahn tunnel serves as an extension to this busway.

The forecast temperature tomorrow for Victor Harbor is 25oC, so the Cockle train will be running.
Victor Harbor weather forecast > http://www.bom.gov.au/sa/forecasts/victor-harbor.shtml

Unfortunately one of the pier pylons has collapsed which means the horse tramway is not running at present.  :'(

Will still have a look at it.

Woodville LX  - Outer Harbour service arriving.  The DMUs look very smart!  The temperature was around 41oC, the camera on the tablet kept shutting down reporting it was too hot!

There was no change to running times despite the heat.  Track setup is very resilient.
