Is it possible to do a total comparisson of Northgate + Nundah + Toombul + Eagle Junction?
Be interesting to see if pax are simply redistributing away from the lower frequency stations or if they've stopped showing up.

QuoteIt is telling that some people would rather sit in a bus for an hour in traffic than risk, in their minds rail.
yep.
I'm assuming the walkup patronage there @ toowong prefer the bus because of the increased risk of station skipping/overcrowding and mech issues on rail.
In the end it comes down to disruption risk/comfort vs frequency available. Bus is winning at the moment and its showing in the figures...

Actually when I was living in the area, I preferred the bus due to Toowong station being a pain to get into (the design of Toowong Village is incredibly annoying).

Depends where you are - I've never found it annoying to access from Benson St, that ramp to access the outbound stop is a pain though. Getting to the Park n Ride would be the biggest negative - I prefer to street park and walk access to it is that bad.

I guess if you are in the Lissner St area, access isn't that great.
Is it really that hard to run frequent, reliable public transport?

^ Your summary seems to include numerous Brisbane school routes in tyhe 7## range as if they are Gold Coast routes.

Slightly disappointing that all routes in the Ipswich region have had a decline in October patronage except the 506, 512 and 529.

Fares_Fair

February 2018 patronage.
It's a spreadsheet with over half-a-million lines (526,416)

It's hardly easy to access or correlate.
I don't know the origin number and destination number of every public transport locale in South East Queensland.

It needs to be made useful.

Hi All

I'd like to share a small project I've created based on the origin-destination data across 30 months (February 2016 to July 2018).

In short, I've mapped every stop on the SEQ Translink network and calculated a total touch on, touch off and paper ticket figure for the stop.

Have a look and feel free to provide comments/feedback and I'll happily answer any questions that come up as well.

Head to
https://seqtransit.henrus1.com/stop-usage-maps
then select the Jul-18 Touch on Map.

It's obviously not perfect some stops are missing, some data hasn't correctly matched from stops file but it's a start and at least provides a nice snapshot of the last 30 months at specific stops.

ozbob

Welcome henrus1 !

Brilliant, thanks for sharing the information.

This will be good for paper ticket purchases vs gocard scans at selected stops to see which stops are selling a high ratio of paper tickets.

Check out the stop at Lone Pine: 6152 people touched on and 2154 paper tickets were purchased :-w

Thats almost 40% of all boardings were paper tickets.

Should there be a GoCard machine there or even give Lone Pine the licence to sell GoCards? I would assume most passengers come from Indro so I'm surprised they haven't used the machines or newsagents there.

On another note, the P206 had better patronage than the 359, 310 and 220.

I caught the 7:30am inbound P206 on Tues and it showed up 1 minute late to the first stop (right outside Carina Depot- not sure how that happens) and by the time it got to Carina Shops, it was about 5 mins late so it leapfrogged the short runner from Carina into the City. It was a TAG and by the time we left Stones Corner, it was not quite standing room only (maybe 40-45 people).

Its the sheer convenience of the route alignment which makes it a success.
In the time that it takes you to walk from the far east/north-east side of the cbd  to Adelaide st/kgbs/qsbs and wait for one of the core frequent buses there your already at stones corner/coorparoo junction..
I put that rocket in as one of the most convenient..

They're a bit behind on updating this one. I guess it was nice while it lasted.

Edit: I contacted them and hopefully it will be updated soon. Apparently updates to this are more of a couple-of-times-a-year thing now.

Random assortment of routes passengers per service average....for April 2019..
Note that the o-d-d doesn't include fare evasion so will be slightly different..
Most efficient route on that list I would give to the 411...

Nice work!

A few routes that stick out include the 325 (KG kids probably boost that number a fair bit), 123 (probably a similar story here probably with other school kids), 232 and 322. It should be noted that although these routes don't necessarily run at a high frequency (which can explain these slightly higher passenger numbers/service), it's because they have more than one major trip generator along the route (usually at either end).

Having routes stop at or terminate at these other trip generators (aside from the CBD) such as shopping centres/major interchanges and uni's for example, provide these routes with more than one type of travel pattern that commuters onboard these routes have. It's what makes them successful as people are regularly getting on and off the bus.

Re. the 411, would it be worth looking at sending it up Mt Coot-tha instead of to the City? It provides a direct connection for uni students up the hill, whilst servicing Toowong Station for a transfer onto other western suburbs routes (like what has been suggested in the past). It then allows the 471 to still continue to the city at the same frequency, whilst providing more off-peak, weekend and night-time services to the summit (on the 411) for pretty much the same amount of resources than it going to the City (I would assume based on current travel times).

techblitz

thnx cazza  :D :D

Some time in the next couple of days I will add on to those routes an approx. average trip time per service..
eg: 110 (55mins tt) or the 411(27mins tt)
Will give a slightly more accurate picture of a routes efficiency.....we need to sort out the bad eggs from the good and pressure the bad eggs to be extended/cut/merged or whatever...

A correspondent on RBoT Facebook has commented that Translink's Origin-Destination Data does not include trips taken on bank cards etc.

Oh that's a bit frustrating. It probably doesn't include Odin Pass either which would probably be pretty distortionary on UQ routes.
