Since mark bailey like to talk flawless & BIASED gold coast rail...ive just had flawless transfers from archerfield - inala - richlands - forest lake - Oxley - inala - archerfield......all on BT services without worrying about the crap 1 hour reduced rail frequency that he will never fess up to or adkowledge as an issue.

10.05 110 to inala arrive 10.29.
10.32 101 to richlands.....quick bit of work at pine rd.....walk to richlands stations which is a ghostown as expected....5 minutes later my 460 rocks up....arrive forest lake 11.18.
11.20 100 to Oxley Ridge arrive 11.45...do shopping til 12.10.
12.20 100 back to inala arr 12.30
12.35 110 back to archerfield.....

Now that's what you call flawless....

The rail frequency on the wider SEQ rail network is nothing but a gross embarrassment sadly.

Nice bus work there TB!

The spin coming from Beattie and Bailey makes me want to vomit. Avoiding the facts of insufficient Light Rail capacity, and poor train frequencies in Brisbane due to #RailFail.

brissypete

The R610 replacement bus has proved quite good so far , better frequency than the trains and connects well to the 66 to get to the city.

SurfRail

First day of me actually wandering out and about.

Helensvale - was working quite well.

Nerang - was working quite well.

Robina - ghost town (nothing on out here yet).

Varsity - much quieter, but again going fine.

Broadbeach South - was working quite well.

Light rail generally - continuing modest timetable degradation as there were 3 or 4 trams in and out of BBS inside of 10 minutes when I was there in the mid afternoon.  They seem to have been experiencing a bumper crop of passengers.

Surfside network generally - was working quite well.

Trains generally - carrying far more people than I have previously observed, and no obvious issues out in the field wherever I was.

Rail - heavy and light going well for GC2018

Good Morning,

Day 4 of the Games.  Queensland Rail is doing a good job with the heavy rail service on the Gold Coast line.  So far reliable and generally on time, and high frequency.  It is sad though the rest of the SEQ rail network is lumbered with such poor service frequency.  A good thing though is that service disruptions have been minimal on the wider network so far.  Be great if Queensland Rail would carry this momentum on after the Games hey?

Light rail is carrying a lot more passengers than was anticipated. They are still however managing well although some short waits at times.

The Surfside route bus network appears to be working well.  The only real concern is the long wait for some of the games bus shuttles, particularly after events.  This is to be expected to a minor degree, buses are not trains or trams.  A particular trouble spot has been at the Gymnastics venue at Coomera, shuttles leaving from there. Long waits, which appear to be exacerbated by poor loading processes.  These should be reviewed in an attempt to speed things up a little.

Well done so far to all.

Best wishes,
Robert

Despite my shuttle bus woes yesterday, it was still far faster than taking the train due to hourly connections in Brisbane.

BTW the slightly late running 07:09(ish) from Roma St to Gold Coast has a standing load.

10:17 Roma St to Gold Coast diverted via Tennyson due to track fault.

Interesting am peak observation that the Gold Coast services are scheduled to overtake the Roma St terminating (ex-Ferny Grove) services at Central. (Though is not always what happens). QR still keep telling pax to change at Roma St  :conf

Interested to know what the turnback operations are at Varsity Lakes during the 8tph service? Are trains alternating in each platform, or turning back in the headshunt/siding? If the former, are crews stepping back a train?

red dragin

Into platform, new crew into headshunt, back to platform, another crew takes over. Basically specialist headshunt crew(s).

That's what a rostered driver told me anyway.

BrizCommuter

Thanks. So drivers at both ends during the turnback procedure then?

red dragin

I would assume so, would be the only way that could work at the pace required.

The final big test for heavy rail today and tomorrow particularly centred on Robina. Trains will be at 7 minutes frequency at times.

Next week is going to be a mess.  Reduced service post-Games timetable and school and tertiary back.

Basket case !

Agreed, there will be overcrowding in many lines. Starting to think that the school holiday timetables are becoming the norm!

I even think in am peak pax won't be physically able to board past the halfway point (halfway in terms of number of station) on some lines.
Do I really need to clarify?
Sarcasm and rhetorical questions don't translate perfectly into written form, do they?

main problem areas will most likely be northgate - petrie and indro - Milton....since QR have a habit of expressing these two stretches to make up lost time....

yesterday hightlighted both areas....it took 35 minutes to get from Milton to central for one person and another person ended up walking from petrie back to lawnton  >:(

Peak services reduced by up to 60% - this will result in overcrowding and possibly full trains on most train lines.
Peak express services eliminated - reduced am peak, and no pm peak express services on the Ipswich and Cleveland Lines will significantly lengthen commutes, already affected by reduced frequency.
Off-peak service reduced by up to 50% - off-peak trains every 30 minutes - worse than all other cities in Oceania.
Broken bus connections - due to services reductions, and different clock face times, bus connections will be broken.
Commuters still being charged peak fares for a heavily reduced peak train service. Can commuters launch a class action against TransLink?

Yes, everyone knows it's bad. But that's not going to stop people wanting QR's contract renewed!!

Thanks for the shortened link!

No worries.  I was watching marathons and took me a little while to realise what the link problem was.  With the shortened link I have managed to penetrate the State's firewalls ...   >:D

PS.  Great result in the T54 male and female .. gold!

Well, there's trains, but I'm not sure I'd call it normal. Does the Easter SHT continue until April 20, i.e. a week after school resumes?  :fp:

ozbob

Yes, reduced services hence the ' normal '.  The message is for the wider public so they get it that trains are back at their station.

what gets under my skin with all of this so called 'comm games rail success' that is getting spruiked from all sides...is we now know what can be achieved when you focus enough resources into a specific line.

virtually zero bridge/gate strikes: ( big help coming from having traffic monitors posted at LX crossings.)
virtually zero track/electrical faults: thanks to upgraded focus on line maintenance.
virtually zero mechanical issues(thanks to bias allocation of new/modern rolling stock).

If these 'efforts' were able to be mirrored across the entire network then I would actually have enough faith in the rail network to warrant an immediate bus-rail feeding review for the Brisbane region.....heh...who am I kidding right??....like many others we pretty much know that it will all return to sh%t from next week with no end in sight.
