There have been that many changes that it is hard to remember the 'normal stopping pattern'.

Brisbanetimes --> Train crews rested following 'intense' Commonwealth Games period

Quote
Tired train crews will be rested following an intense rail “marathon” during the Commonwealth Games, impacting train timetables from Monday.

Crews worked “around the clock”, completing more than 200,000 kilometres of train journeys across the 11 days of Games, ahead of the closing ceremony on Sunday evening, Transport Minister Mark Bailey said.

“Heavy rail has played a key part of the integrated public transport model to support GC2018,” Mr Bailey said.

“Across the past 11 days, Queensland Rail has delivered more than 270 services on the Gold Coast line each day of competition.”

Queensland Rail chief executive Nick Easy said temporary service changes would remain in place across south-east Queensland until Friday, with trains on most lines expected to run every 15 minutes during peak times and every 30 minutes off-peak.

“Following the intense GC2018 period, an altered timetable will remain in place for five days ... while we rest our hard working train crews who have gone above and beyond to deliver for the games and reposition rolling stock and other assets following enhanced 24 hour operations on the Gold Coast corridor,” he said.

Despite major bus delays before and after the Games’ opening ceremony, Mr Bailey said on-time running results along the Gold Coast train line had so far averaged about 98 per cent.

“Our crews have worked around the clock to deliver an unprecedented level of services on the Gold Coast line, with triple the amount of trains running 24 hours a day to support event crowds,” he said.

“Across the past 11 days, Queensland Rail has delivered more than 270 services on the Gold Coast line each day of competition.”

Sent to all outlets:

17th April 2018

Additional peak hour rail services Tuesday 17 to Friday 20 April

Good Morning,

As predicted the planned reduced service timetable was never going to cope this week.  Punters have been bashed around long enough with rail fail.

Well some late additions to the timetable for this week.  We are grateful for small mercies ...

The Commonwealth Games are over.  Time for action to sort out once and for all rail fail, the non-compliant NGR trains,
and do something about the dysfunctional management, administration and delivery of public transport.  Enough of failure!

I wonder if the large number of reports of overcrowded trains in social media prompted the service additions? Or QR has more spare drivers than expected (I believe that spare crew/trains were available during the games period)? Interestingly, the additional services have created better pm peak of peak frequencies on some lines than the 'normal' #RailFail timetable - creating 7-8 min gaps instead of 12 to 15 gaps. Go figure?

Still need more AM inbound from Caboolture according to some social media posts I've read. Standing room only by Burpengary and crush loads at Narangba. Social media though so maybe take it with a grain of salt.

On 7:02am from Ferny Grove. Usual preceding service axed this week. Almost full, and door hopping occurring at Windsor.

6:34am from Kippa-Ring observed to be fairly squishy. Lots of standees but room to breath.

Seriously, how could they think that the proposed timetable this week was going to cope?

It would always be hard as the drivers need a rest period.

Social media though so maybe take it with a grain of salt.
while a small percentage do over-exaggerate the situation......a large percentage of the rest have their situations 'confirmed or backed up' by other fellow commuters.

Call it a co-incidence or not...a couple of weeks ago ozbob pushed to SM the report of people standing between carriages on an ippy 5pmish outbound service....well well.....now there is an extra service around the same time  ;)

The more people that speak up on SM the better....even if they are going to be trolled by a select few rail enthusiasts(easy to spot as they have train avatars)
The ones who simply cant bare to see their beloved rail providers name dragged through the mud.

Many of the crush situations on the Caboolture/Nambour line are usually around the ex-Nambour departures. QR did try to address the overcrowding of them by adding the 6:42am and 6:58am ex-Cab (which precede the 7:05am ex-Cab that originates at NBR) in the last S.H.I.T timetable.  I feel this could've been done more around the departures that originate ex-NBR (e.g 6:35am and 7:35am ex-Cab departures - both originate ex-Nambour)

With many lines now having an improved 7-8 min frequency in the pm peak between 5-5:30pm for the rest of this week instead of the usual 7-24 minute frequency (typically 12-15), there may some confused and dissapointed  customers next week!

Last day of the SH%T until the next school holidays. Lots more complaints on social media from Caboolture and Redcliffe Line users. Some commuters (notably Cleveland Line) may have a bettter timetable today than usual Friday Fail Fundays.

yep...back to the mon-thu farce where you get more frequency between 6-7am on a welfare route like the 346 than the entire Shorncliffe line...
Pretty frickin sad.

GC2018 is over.  It's time to start giving it to them with both barrels again.  We need to see real progress on moving back to an October 2016 (or better) timetable, and how that can be realised by the end of this year.  Anything short of that is unacceptable.

Services on 346 departing 6-7am: 4
Services on Shorncliffe line departing 6-7am: 3 Mon-Thu, 4 Fri.

Here was I thinking Friday was always the worst day.

^  there are a  couple of odd outcomes with the Friday timetable.  Ipswich line also gets another inbound service ex Ippy on Fridays PM that doesn't operate Mon<>Thu.

I'd be very surprised if October 2016 can be realised by the end of this year. Recruitment/training of new crew simply isn't at the required rate. But there certainly needs to be improvements made, and I believe the first one is a consistent M-F timetable.

I’m not expecting any improvement this year. The lack of information from QR or CRU on the resolution of Rail Fail makes me think we will be waiting until 2020 at the earliest for full resolution.

How about getting a consistent M-F timetable (aka Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V Mon-Thur into Friday with gaps filled where staffing resources permit) first before re-applying the ol' October 2016 timetable...
