@Team_Quirk @TMRQld It is a very serious matter that you are happy to spend $ billions when basic bus network will deliver a better outcome.

RACQ

RACQ has welcomed a pledge by Brisbane City Council's Opposition to reallocate the majority of funds from the Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade if it won power.

Lord Mayoral Candidate Rod Harding has released an infrastructure proposal for Brisbane, which included the redirection of $500 million from the current $650 million Kingsford Smith Drive upgrade.

RACQ Executive Manager Public Policy Michael Roth said the motoring body had long questioned the priority placed on the Hamilton project.

"We believe the list of projects Labor has focused on for next year's election will save time and costs for motorists," Mr Roth said.

"Upgrading the Boundary Road level crossing is on our list of priority transport projects for Brisbane and Wynnum Road is desperately in need of an upgrade to ease the traffic congestion motorists face morning and afternoon."

Mr Roth said with an election around the corner, it was vital Brisbane City Council withheld from awarding a contract for the Kingsford Smith Drive project.

"BCC's own travel time report, released on Tuesday, shows 13 of the 18 road corridors assessed are more congested than Kingsford Smith Drive and its total traffic numbers are similar to those from 10 years ago. This is because AirportLinkM7 is now the primary link between the airport and CBD.

"We don't want to end up wasting money like the Victorians did with East West Link, so with council elections early next year, we call on Lord Mayor Graham Quirk to resist signing any contracts for this project."

Labor's list of election commitments include:

- $150 million to upgrade Kingsford Smith Drive
- $200 million to upgrade the level crossing at Boundary Road, Coopers Plains
- $50 million to advance the Wynnum Road upgrade
- $250 million to fix suburban congestion hot spots.

Team Quirk continues real action on traffic congestion

Quote
Lord Mayor Graham Quirk has today announced that if he is re-elected, he will continue to deliver real action on traffic congestion, to keep Brisbane on the right track.

Team Quirk's reliable plan takes a multifaceted approach to tackling congestion, including $1.3 billion for new road projects attacking congestion, the $1.54 billion Brisbane Metro subway system, and fighting for fairer public transport fares as well as new express CityCat services and an expansion to Brisbane's bikeway network.

Cr Quirk said his $1.3 billion package of projects attacking congestion announced today, doubled Labor's roads scheme and involved over 40 major upgrades as well as 50 smaller-scale high impact congestion relieving projects.

"Projects Attacking Congestion will include upgrades to Telegraph Road, Wynnum Road, Waterworks Road, the Inner City Bypass, Kingsford Smith Drive, Progress Road and Paradise Road," Cr Quirk said.

"We will deliver projects attacking congestion with an upgrade to Murphy Road in Aspley, Juliette Street in Annerley, Old Cleveland Road at Carindale, Green Camp Road at Wakerley and a new Player Road connection in Upper Mount Gravatt.

"Team Quirk will also build smoother suburban streets and invest $16 million into more than 50 suburban road projects, for small scale, high-impact improvements such as road widening, turning lane extensions and minor intersection upgrades."

Cr Quirk said his $1.54 billion fast and reliable high-frequency Brisbane Metro Subway system linking the suburbs and the inner city, would also cut travel times and alleviate congestion.

"Under Team Quirk's Brisbane Metro Subway, middle and outer suburbs will benefit from up to 200 more buses each hour to deliver more frequent services," he said.

"Team Quirk will also continue fighting for fairer fares for all public transport users and we are calling on the State Government to reduce their fares to 2009 levels, before 15 per cent annual increases kicked in, making public transport unaffordable for many residents."

"We have provided Australia's most modern public transport fleet, which is fully wheelchair and pram accessible and 100 per cent air-conditioned. We have played our part, now the State Government needs to reduce fares to make Brisbane public transport affordable."

Cr Quirk said his team's record speaks for itself, with Council's Key Corridor Studies showing that despite a 5.5% per cent increase in total traffic volumes since 2012, travel times are improving.

"Team Quirk has been delivering for Brisbane with targeted traffic congestion projects, with a $2.16 billion investment into the road network over the past four years delivering real benefits for Brisbane.

"The major upgrades that we have delivered for Brisbane are now removing more than 120,000 vehicles from alternate surface roads each day, resulting in safer and less congested roads," Cr Quirk said.

"What Brisbane needs is a team that can deliver on projects, on time and under budget, just like we have done time and time again with major projects including Legacy Way and the Telegraph Road and Geebung open level crossing replacements.

Wow, they must be still using the same advisors from the Campbell Newman era. Because this sounds awfully like "2000 daily express buses down Legacy way", they just dropped a zero!

It looks like something straight out of a State Government. Maybe they think Brisbane is its own state?

LOL

Harding ' Fare Free Fridays ', Pennings ' set fares at 2011 levels ',  Quirk ' set fares at 2009 levels ' ..

I am sure Quirk would be happy to drop rates back to 2009 levels hey?

This absurd and very contemptible  ' fare vote-bait auction '   really shows how desperate these people are, and how little they actually respect the community.  It is only raising false expectations - and undeliverable expectations.  Services cost.

The problem with the fares is the overall fare structure. Unless we fix the entire fare system, fare cuts achieve very little, and we are just soon back to where we started.  Just ask Bligh and Newman ...

Quirk, you and your advisers are a sad joke!

Brisbane City Council should be asked to reduce its bus contract costs to 2009 levels. Driver pay would have to go back to 2009 levels in that hypothetical scenario.

I wonder how well that would go down hey?  :-w

And how incredible for Blue Team to essentially plagiarise a Green Team policy.

Fare cost explosion really is there.
