Mozz

Noooooooo - I live 300 metres down the footbridge lane at Oxley :)

But seriously folks, does anyone know when the footbridge was built - while in the past few years it looked and felt a bit old in the tooth - I would be interested to know when it was put up.

I was asking some folks today Mozz, but no luck.

The fact that the up span is double means that it must have been there when the third loop was in place, so at least 50 years or so I reckon. Might be wrong. See what I can dig up.

Cheers

The lane to the bridge, which is very handy for Mozz and the other residents.
The new arrangement will have lifts too I understand, which will be useful for some.

Early Saturday morning!

Work has started.  Heavy lift crane in place.

Time about 6am, still dark.  Flood lights in place.

Eastern end of platform has fences now blocking access from that end of the platform.  Traffic control was setting up.
Will check on progress later today  ;)

Down span removed.

Removal of up span.  Trackstar don't waste time!

Down span on the ground already.

All that needs removal now are the stairs and supports.  Gone!

Early Sunday morning 15th June, sun just breaking through.

A changed view!  Eastern end of Oxley railway station.

Work proceeded during the day to clean up the remaining foundations and structures associated with the old foot bridge.  The white fencing at the end of the platform was being removed prior to placing further up.

The photo below shows the heavy digger machine moving back over the down mainline as the day drew to a close. The track is protected by wooden sleepers and rubber tyres on top. Seems to work well.  Right on dusk. It was quite dark at this time, hence the quality not the best.

When I was checking progress last evening, I met a gentleman who was very disappointed that due to camera issues had not got photos of the bridge and the removal. I was able to let him know that we had photos and he was most welcome to have them on record. This was for the Graceville/Oxley Historical group.

If you read this members of the that group, please email me at admin@backontrack.org and I can arrange for you to have any number of high resolution images of the bridge before, during and at the end.

Best wishes

I have received advice that the former footbridge at Oxley had been there for around thirty years, and was originally located at the eastern end of Toowong railway station.  Presumably moved from Toowong prior to the changes there.

If anyone can confirm or add information I would be very grateful.

Thanks.

Regards
Bob
