A couple of starters so far so definitely on.  Come along and see some of the interesting work done recently on the network.

If anyone is interested for the first one Sunday 24th July, meet up at Central platform 5 9am, Roma St end.
If you haven't been out west for a while, very interesting.  Fair chance of random encounters with coalies, grain, containers and even live stock trains.

Planned itinerary:

Meet platform 5 Central Roma St end.

Central  platform 5 9.13am Richlands service to Corinda at 9.35

Corinda to Richlands  Depart Corinda 10.05am arrive Richlands 10.15am

Richlands 10.48am Darra 10.52am

Darra to Ipswich  Depart Darra at 11.26am  Ipswich 11.56am

Depart Ipswich 12.35  arrive Rosewood 12.56

Depart Rosewood  2.05 or 3.05pm

If you are planning to come along please post here or message.

Corinda:  Interesting track arrangements, recent artwork.  Track amplication Corinda to Darra.

Richlands:  Opportunity to see the newest station on the network.

Darra:  Recent upgrades.

Ipswich:  Redbank stabling enroute.  Ipswich railway station is itself interesting.

Rosewood:  Western most region on the Citytrain network.

Ipswich to Bigge's Camp Railroad

The first section from Ipswich to Bigge's Camp of the Southern and Western Railway although not opened until the 31 July, was given a test run on Saturday 1 July, 1865 by some Ipswich locals.  The following report appeared in Local and General News in the Queensland Times dated 4 July 1865.

"We left Ipswich on Saturday at twenty-seven minutes to twelve o'clock, and at twenty-two minutes to one were opposite Cook's Hotel at Bigge's Camp.  It is perhaps unnecessary to say that we did not travel by bullock-dray, or on Shank's pony, or even in an American buggy with a fast trotting horse.  We went in fact by train, and, although the stoppages on the line, including that at Walloon station, occupied seven or eight minutes, the journey was accomplished in the time stated.  On our return we did still better, for though the stoppages altogether were as long, we reached North Ipswich in one hour and two minutes from the time of starting, going occasionally at the rate of more than thirty miles an hour, or from one half mile post to another in less than a minute.  With the exception of the fencing and the two stations at Walloon and Bigge's Camp, there seems to be nothing wanting to enable the line to be opened.  It is true that the ballasting is not quite completed, nor the dressings of the sides of some of the embankments, but these things are by no means indispensable at first.  The train ran very smoothly, and when sometimes, through the fencing being incomplete, a cow or a horse were overtaken, the engine, even when going at top speed, was stopped in an exceedingly short space of time.  The country through which the line runs is tame and uninteresting after passing the first four bridges until the Rosewood is reached, here it opens out, and becomes picturesque and park-like."

My plan was to attend this tour but I have no way of getting to Central at 9am. Earliest possible time I could get there is 9:18. Have fun on the tour!

Couple of us made the trip.  Few late cancellations.  Some photographs.

Managed to board EMU 01 Darra to Ipswich on the outbound leg.

Interesting to note that all stations past Ipswich to Rosewood have the outbound platform as 2.  Reflects the fact that Ipswich is the point of reference for the rail network.
Wacol seems to be having part of the western yard removed?

Goodna, EMU08/01

Pity one cannot use a go card for CityCycle ...

Now now, we have  ' a world class public transport system ' ....

Mercifully it seems a good Samaritan has removed the decrepit letters ...  but a large water tower adjacent has been adorned with the new company logo ...

The bus stop says stop C and the sign on the roof says stop A..

Redbank?

ozbob

Yes, both correct Clinton.  The bus stop is actually bus stop A.   We think it might be a 'typo' ..

Redbank indeed, many station signs are deteriorated to point of uselessness.  I cannot understand why there are not some temporary plastic letters placed until new signs are fashioned or what ever.
