Quote
Friday 21 May 2010

Ipswich/Rosewood lines closed:

•Corinda to Rosewood – Saturday, May 22 – 5pm Sunday, May 23.
•Roma Street to Corinda – from 8pm Sunday, May 23 until last service.
•Roma Street to Corinda – from 7.20pm Sunday, May 30 until last service.
Buses will replace trains for some Ipswich and Rosewood line passengers over the next two weekends as major infrastructure and track upgrade works continue.

Train services between Corinda and Rosewood stations will be replaced by buses from the first service on Saturday (May 22) until 5pm on Sunday (May 23).

Connecting trains will still operate for passengers travelling to stations between Corinda and Brisbane city.

This track closure will allow workers to continue with the Queensland Government's South East Queensland Infrastructure Plan and Program (SEQIPP) Corinda to Darra Rail Upgrade Project, which will provide more capacity on the Ipswich line in future.

Oxley and Darra train stations are being upgraded with new facilities, security, accessibility, extra parking and new tracks are also being laid.

Works being undertaken on the Corinda to Darra Rail Upgrade project include:

•Finishing works to the new platform 2/3 and concrete works to platform 4 at Darra train station
•Installation of stormwater gutters near the corner of Railway Parade and Darra Station Road, Darra
•Mast installation and the demolition of a concrete wall in the rail corridor near the Centenary Highway
•Subway repairs at Oxley train station
•Track work in the rail corridor between Cliveden Avenue and Seventeen Mile Rocks Road, Oxley.
For the next two Sundays, buses will also convey passengers between Roma Street and Corinda stations from 8pm on Sunday (May 23) and from 7.20pm on Sunday, May 30. Normal train services will resume from first service the next day.

Trains will still run to stations between Corinda and Ipswich or Rosewood.

This track closure will allow QR to continue with important track work near Indooroopilly train station.

Customer service staff will be on hand at Roma Street and Central train stations to help people with their journeys.

Flyer in letterbox today - closure of the Oxley subway from 25 May to the end of June 2010 at night 7pm to 5am. Shuttle buses during closure hours to transport people from one side of the station to the other. The subway entrance from Ardoyne road side of the station will remain open for passengers to access all platforms.

Good to see the work being undertaken and acknowledgement of the impact on commuters and the local community. The incompetence of the Ellen street pedestrian bridge closure was beyond the pale - with a 5 month total closure announced which turned into more than a year and then the replacement bridge was only opened after ministerial and high level intervention or it would have been months longer.

Doesn't Oxley station have a pedestrian bridge as well? Why do they need a bus? ???

I could offer the following:

The subway is an even more important active transport corridor than the pedestrian bridge for the local community the bridge is located some 150 metres from the subway however without the subway the alternate route using the bridge is quite a distance.
Without the subway the bridge would deposit some commuters and residents in ellen street maybe 300 - 400 metres and two streets away from the actual train/bus station.
The lift is only accessible from the subway and thus people with mobility or other issues cannot use the bridge.
The bridge is a magnificient structure some three storeys high at the highest and two storeys high at the lowest many senior residents of Oxley cannot use the new bridge where they could use the older smaller pedestrian bridge.

On the map below the pedestrian bridge exits ellen street at William terrace and then back across to Ardoyne road.

Ok, yeah forgot that the lifts weren't on the bridge. And the walk around Ellen street looks ridiculous.

This subway shutdown will really test the locals.  Suffer they will but not gladly.  The subway should have been sorted when the major work was done during the disruptions then. Oxley is a fascinating station and has a lot of little local twists. Even the story behind the placement of the safety mirror on the 17 Mile Rocks road over bridge was a saga  ...  Oxley Bus stop B is a standing joke, the subway is just another one of the malfunctions.   At least Oxley has been promised two more go card readers ...

The Oxley subway was closed off at 8pm tonight. They had a white mini bus running a shuttle from Ardoyne back around to the front.  A couple of punters used it.  Most people walked off back around over the road bridge by the look of it.  The bus would be handy if it was raining though.  Work going on in the subway.  Once they complete the UP side the arrangements might be reversed to do the down side.

On this mornings tour of the Oxley transit precinct (  :) ) I had a good look at the subway.  UP  (A side), which has been the subject of closures nightly this past week has been drilled in a checker board pattern on the new concrete slab overhead (underneath the subs).  Possibly in preparation for some reinforcement.  Various grid lines are marked on upper walls and overhead.  It is has been cleaned as well.

DOWN (B Side) the recent work done on the surface underneath the main lines seems to have stopped the direct surface leakage.  Good opportunity for a test with the rain on and off last night and today at Oxley.  The drainage through the bottom outlets along the walls continues, as would be expected and some moisture on the floor.
