SEQ Annual Patronage FY 2009/10 to FY 2023/24 - all modes

26th September 2024

Greetings

With the tabling of the Department of Transport and Main Roads-Annual Report 2023-2024
( https://documents.parliament.qld.gov.au/tp/2024/5724T2047-D9D3.pdf  ) we have updated our SEQ Annual Patronage (Public Transport) series.

For more detail see our RAIL Back On Track Forum thread at https://railbotforum.org/mbs/index.php?topic=15776.0

During the financial year 2023/24 patronage increased.  We know now that patronage has returned to better than pre-covid levels ( base - financial year 2018/19) since the introduction of the Fifty Cent fares from August 2024.

Heavy rail needs improved frequency of services out of peak and better feeder bus services and active transport integration. The Citytrain network can carry a lot more passengers. Buses running parallel to heavy rail is grossly inefficient and wastes valuable resources. New high frequency bus services need to be introduced into public transport poor areas of SEQ. There is much scope for an improved public transport network in SEQ if there was the right leadership.

Putting all hopes just in Cross River Rail and Bus Electric Rapid Transit - BERT ('Brisbane Metro') is counter-productive. We need to start acting now to provide frequent accessible public transport services to all regions of our public transport network.

Just curious, does anybody know if there's any publicly available up-to-date patronage data of individual rail stations across SEQ?
