Why No QR POV Videos??

On YouTube, I can watch endless hours of train driver POV videos, from most major Oz cities and many major cities/regions the world over.  Many "transit operators" even do official full track-length versions and some posters, clearly are/know drivers and they paste them up.  Their both entertaining [to train nerds] and educational....but from that mysterious land, lost in time, "Quuueeeeeeeeensland" pretty much ZIP!

Is this because a secret army of Oompa-Loompa's really drive QR trains...and no-one must ever know???

Knowing "Quuueeennnsssllllaaannnddd" maybe they have some "security" secret society, shut it down, their watching us now, crazy policy....strange if so, pretty sure Sydney, London, NYC, Paris, Los Angeles, Chicago, Israel and TGV's in France are way higher up the security target totem pole and they can't churn out the content fast enough!

Is this just another....weird Quuueeennsssllllaaannnddd thing???

Come on QR/Drivers let's step into year 2005 and get some POV videos happening.....

Mysterious QQQQuuueeeennnssssssllllllaaannnnddddd...... :lu:  strikes again!

Because QR don't allow electronic devices being used in the cab unauthorised, and the drivers don't want to lose their job so some foamers can watch trackview videos.

Anyone care to give an intelligent response?

A driver friend of mine has said that they simply aren't allowed to have cameras/electronic devices in the cab while they are driving, and don't want to be called out by station staff who my spot them doing it that could potentially get them into serious trouble.

I have suggested to Qld Rail in the past to do it as part of a marketing exercise, although I haven't heard anything since other than that they would consider it.

A driver was prosecuted in Victoria for using a mobile device for 45 minutes and fined $20000 in court so yeah pretty big if while doing so something goes wrong and they find out. It is up to the individual that will be sent to court under RSNL not the Operator IE QR or AURIZON PN unless its their procedures training or policies that were the cause

I'm fascinated Jimmy, as to 1) what a foamer is? and 2) Why QR would have a anti-POV video policy?  Bit odd I would think and of course a real missed promo opportunity.  I mean Jimmy, it's been done  on TGVs, they can have them on NYC subway trains and a host of others...but "QR" has a seemingly unique issue with it?

Fascinating Jimmy and looking forward to reading your further insights?  :ok:

Basically crews would rather retain their job than keep some formers on YouTube happy. The policy is in regards to recording devices which includes mobile phone. The same with when news crews have cab footage there is always a second driver present just in case there is a distraction. Personal mobile phone usage with any operator will come down hard on along with the rail safety regulator. Gone are the old days of in-house resolutions and now face the rath of ONRSR/RSNL. Just the same as unauthorised personnel in the cab. The cab is the workplace so there are workplace policies. No different than any other workplace.

A foamer is one of many names given to rail enthusiats.
What QR decides it allows its traincrew to do or not do is up to them. Most other rail operators in Ais have similar policies. Most drivers would prefer not to lose their six figure salary just to upload a bit of POV footage to YouTube.

QR is a publicly owned asset.....they should be dragged out of their timewarp, at every opportunity!  The nations most expensive train operator!

None of this has any relevance to your demands to see videos from inside the cab. There's literally no good operational reason to do so.

Gazza

Yeah i don't understand why previous responses weren't good enough.

Many occupations are not permitted to use electronic devices while operating equipment.

No electronic devices = no videos being made. Simple.

Nice try mate, but 1) I've not "demanded" anything!  I simply asked why the reluctance! And, that it was "odd"

2) Here's another driver POV vid....wonder where this one's from.....

As I said. Most employers use recording devices to cover mobile phone usage. This also includes photographic and video camera equipment. IIRC some bloke in WA put a loco in the dirt on a siding after adjusting a camera he set up in his cab a number of years back and a number of them have been dismissed for mobile phone usage. There's another one which is unauthorised video recordings in the workplace. It's not just QR. Aurizon, Watco, PN, Cube, BMA etc all have similar policies in place. Also as I said. Crews would also rather retain their job instead of making a few formers on the internet happy. Do you understand now.

I've largely stayed out of this but for the last time, it is a safety rule that is enforced by QR. If the drivers are caught doing it, they will lose their job and face a hefty fine. If you don't like it too bad. Maybe you should become a driver and risk your livelihood for internet clout.

SteelPan

That is the lamest excuse for mediocrity...in the entire history of Queensland Mediocrity - and that's really saying something!  Below from Chicago, USA and put out by the actual Chicago Transit Authority...why, cause rail's cool and who doesn't want to GROW community interest in RAIL...well OK, apart from QT/QR!!!

Might have to move out of Australia. Other states have just as tough standards when it comes to recording devices in the cabs.

tazzer9

Can people please stop defending QR on this.  Not only do heaps of agencies around the world upload cab view videos, including other Australian states.  QR already have the cab view videos on file as they have them for training purposes.
It would take a 17 year old work experience kid a few hours to upload them.

JimmyP

Wrong thread, but it's a very different thing between the company making videos for tuition, having specific risk controls in place for it, vs random drivers making the videos and uploading them. QR have deemed the risks too high with the train protection systems available. Again, those are QR's rules and it's such a nothing burger at this point, there are sooooo many other things to be focussed on, the lack of public drivers view videos available is not worth thinking about right now.

HappyTrainGuy

No one is defending QR. QR, Aurizon/One Rail, Pacific National, Metro Trains, SCT, Rio Tinto, BMA, Watco are a few operators that have this policy in place. Rio Tinto even sacked a worker who was caught using a mobile device under their recording device policy. Fair work Australia also upheld this. While the unions have some power with operators this is one area ONSR will throw any union act straight out the window. As in the video thread the policy for mobile phones covers recording equipment. There is precedent for action to be taken against workers from the employer and federal safety body who dish out fines eg 20k fine for old mate that had a spad while on his phone.

You're beating a dead horse mate. There is no expectation for QR to have public cab view videos. Get over it.
