Hi Andrew, we feel your frustrations and we're sorry for the disruption today. Safety is always at the forefront of what we do. We can assure you that the previous repairs were completed properly and met all safety requirements prior to allowing services to resume. Today's issue has occurred at Eagle Junction and is separate to the previous disruptions.

Seems to be quite an unlucky series of events. Thankfully a lot of the workforce is still off so it could have been worse  :conf:

Correct. NGR once again grabbed the ohle on the subs where you split off onto the Doomben line. Panto is missing from NGR755. Wires on the subs and Doomben line are down.

Wasn't there rigid catenary being tested not far from that junction point on that line at one stage. Did they retain it or replace it again with tension catenary?

Not implying that they should.have rigid catenary there,  just curious.

No that's past Clayfield station for testing purposes. It's still there for testing purposes. Dual ohle ie subs and Doomben line lines were taken out at the same time where Doomben line trains transition to the subs. Ohle at the station was unaffected.

Request for a public detailed statement concerning recent dewirements on Citytrain

5th January 2023

Good Morning,

We have noticed a lot of disgruntled commentary and feedback to Queensland Rail concerning the recent Citytrain major service disruptions, we understand associated with dewirements.
It is our experience, and I am sure the experience of others, that if passengers really understand the circumstances and causes behind the recent significant service disruptions they are much more understanding and tolerant of the situations.

If not already in train, I suggest that a statement be provided publicly which comprehensively details all the circumstances of the recent dewirements.  Particularly what needed to be done to recover the network.  Not all appreciate that there might be a need to de-energise the overhead power, organise locomotives to tow trains out of the area and so forth, before affecting the necessary repairs.

Some idea of the regular maintenance on Overhead Line Equipment could also help to dispel the lack of confidence in some passengers.

Thank you for your consideration.

Best wishes,
Robert

ABC News --> Queensland Rail train dewirements causing issues for commuters

QuoteAn overhead powerline issue that caused major delays this week on Brisbane's northern train lines was a "random" event that needs to be explained further to commuters, says a public transport lobbyist.

Key points:

. A dewirement was the reason for this week's disruption on Brisbane's northern train lines
. A dewirement occurs when parts of the train and overhead wires that conduct electricity come apart
. The issue takes some time to resolve, causing some delays for commuters

A dewirement, or fallen overhead powerline, at Eagle Junction at 10am on Wednesday forced Doomben and Airport line train passengers onto rail buses until the issue was resolved early on Thursday.

Caboolture, Redcliffe Peninsula, Shorncliffe and Sunshine Coast lines were suspended until after 1pm on Wednesday.

Queensland Rail Acting Head of South East Queensland Neil Backer said the team "worked quickly to ensure the safe recovery and repair of the network".

He said dewirements were "frustrating and do cause significant delays for our customers, and we are sorry for any inconvenience".

"They are, however, complex matters that require the attention of staff with specialist skills working in an environment with rigorous safety protocols."

Eagle Junction is also a high-volume station that carries hundreds of commuters a day. ...
