Please add your Christmas wishes for public transport in Queensland.

We can then work it up as a ' Letter to Santa '  [media release]  :is-

Cut off 11th December 2022

I will start.

Dear Santa, we would like the many bus service cancellations to be turned around.

#Metro

- Double BUZ network. New BUZ routes from Moorooka, Yeronga, Carindale (via Winstanley St), Carindale (via Chatsworth Rd), Cannon Hill, Bulimba, Toombul (via Hamilton), Toombul (via Sandgate Road), Chermside (via Grange), Albany Creek and Mitchelton.

Context: In the last decade BCC & TL has let its focus drift from BUZ to CityGlider (Newman) and Metro (Quirk). However, the bulk of the patronage is being pulled in by BUZ services, it is a well tried and tested way to increase patronage without the expensive frills. We just need more of what we know works.

- Break up the Great Circle Line

Context: Just do it.

- Build a major bus interchange at Indooroopilly train station. Build interchanges at two other locations, Coopers Plains station, and Morningside station.

Context: Bus users must be able to get to train stations on a bus. If they cannot do that then they will have to move house to be next to the station, or purchase a car to drive there. Both are unreasonable.

Building a bus interchange at Indooroopilly station would be a very high benefit project, as it will remove almost all buses other than BUZ routes from congested Moggill Road and Coronation Drive. This will save time, money and avoid delay. It will also mean bus passengers can be removed from express buses and placed on express trains. Due to that, redundant express/rocket buses can be removed as well, simplifying the network.

(Is Santa going electric too?)

A usable public transport network.

AJ Transport

A business case study for North west rail line through Trouts Rd corridor. Just to get ahead of ridiculous motorway proposals.

Planning for BERT expansions north to Chermside and east to Carindale.

Progress for CAMCOS.

Finally announce rolling stock expansion project tender winner, it's already falling behind before anything has even happened.

I feel these wishes are pretty small and achievable.

Duplication from Landsborough North to Nambour
- for the freight benefits and collateral advantage of passenger service improvements, including north of Nambour.

CAMCOS & NCL duplication to Landsborough, just do it already.

Better frequencies, later running times, and general bus reform, to make public transport a more attractive option.

And my personal favourite... better regional services! Regional trains should be so good that driving is only the method of last resort.
The best time to break car dependence was 30 years ago. The second best time is now.

OzGamer

  • Proper bus network reform - everywhere!
  • Movement on proper bus infrastructure such as bus lanes on arterials and busway extensions
  • All new buses being electric
  • Springfield rail extended to Ripley
  • Whatever needs to be done to get fifteen minute all day train service to at least Ferny Grove, Shorncliffe, Manly, Kuraby, and Brisbane Airport

timh

Commencement of a proper study into the busway missing link from Federation Street to Truro Street

Commencement of a study and allocation of funds for removing the flat junction for the Airport Line

Monster

A proper stand alone Public Transport Authority for QLD.

You know it makes sense........

Why? It's only Shorncliffe north of there on the subs. If northside patronage growth might take Virginia-Lawnton back out of CRR, but we'd be far more likely to build new corridor from CRR to north of Northgate (e.g. Trouts Rd).

HappyTrainGuy

A far better solution is to install dual track between Eagle Junction and Clayfield similar to the airport. Trains will move slower as a result but it frees up the subs.

A properly empowered and funded Public Transport Authority to study, plan, design, construct and operate/maintain ALL public transit in SEQ [themselves or where appropriate by contract].

Any real progress flows from the above!
SEQ, where our only "fast-track" is in becoming the rail embarrassment of Australia!   :frs:

Another Courier Mail article stating that we are on course to have the same congestion issues as LA in 6 years time.

They need to prioritise east-west connections, by extending the Busway from UQ to Indooroopilly. This can be done as one project (re Indooroopilly bridge duplication) by moving the Indooroopilly station slightly north to Bunnings and building a 20 floor TOD to accommodate a new interchange, offices and apartments 24/7 retail (Bunnings, 7/11, cafes and restaurants.

Trains need to run 20 mins or better off-peak within the next couple of years, as well as buses where it's currently 60 or 30 mins or better.

HappyTrainGuy

Or buses on the Northside where it's every 60 minutes, 2 hours, doesn't run after 6pm or multiple terminus locations.

' Brisbane Metro ' is renamed, preferably Busway Electric Rapid Transit (BERT)  :bg:

It's time! Public Transport Queensland, come on down!!

20th December 2022

Greetings,

Lots of great suggestions on our Santa Christmas Wish List Facebook post at https://railbotforum.org/yourls/3e

Feedback confirms that we need for start focussing a lot more on improved public and active transport in SEQ.

In the recent publication by Department of Infrastructure, Transport, Regional Development, Communications and the Arts ' Cities Research - South East Queensland research project ' ( https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/research-data/bureau-communications-arts-and-regional-research/regions-and-cities/cities-research ) similar sentiments are echoed.

Implications of growth and conclusion: https://www.infrastructure.gov.au/sites/default/files/documents/bcarr-seq-report-chapter-10.pdf  page 248

QuoteCommuter travel in SEQ is currently very car dependent, with the areas that are projected to grow most strongly over the next two decades typically having very low public transport use. Significant and timely investment in public transport will help reduce congestion and manage the impacts of growth on the existing road network.

All this is even more pressing now with the Olympics on the 2032 horizon.  We need a proper Public Transport Authority forthwith!

Doing nothing is not an option.

Best wishes,
Robert
