Don't we already have the QEII Stadium? No doubt, it will be given renewed prominence during the Olympic Games.

^ and QE II Jubilee Hospital.

I think it is time Queensland found some ' courage ' and starting naming things originally.

Translink was a copy of Vancouver.  The latest Translink logo is a copy of US DOT logo.  The Cross River Rail logo is a copy of Cross Rail (now Elizabeth line).

It makes no sense, or else you'd have to call the entirety of sector 1 the Elizabeth line.

If the LNP want to know why they cant form government, it is because it is because these are the sorts of issues they pursue in SEQ.

The events of the past week or so have really underlined just how much influence the UK has on our internal affairs. That and HM Charles III was declared by QLD Parliament to be "King of Queensland".
It sounds odd.

They could rename Albert Street to Queen Elizabeth Station, which would auger with the Queen Street Mall...

Public knowledge that The Hon. Member for Kawana is a massive Monarchist. Although I note his surname is actually Dutch?

Cross River Rail – Calling it the Elizabeth line won't work

14th September 2022

Today, LNP Leader David Crisafulli launched an online petition to name Cross River Rail, the Elizabeth line in honour of Queen Elizabeth II.

The LNP have copied the idea from the new Elizabeth Line in London.

The Elizabeth line is a standalone train service with its own special rolling stock etc, running though its own tunnel under central London.
It complements other rail lines such as the Bakerloo line , the Picadilly line, the Jubilee line etc, which operate independently in a similar manner.

But Brisbane is different. Cross River Rail is merely the name of the construction project, and when complete the tunnels will be shared by trains from several lines, including the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Redcliffe Peninsula, Gold Coast and Beenleigh lines.

You can see how the LNPs suggestion would cause chaos and confusion for travellers.

Does the Gold Coast line change name and become the Elizabeth line when it reaches the tunnel entrance at Dutton Park for example?

If you are at Mango Hill, are you catching the Redcliffe Peninsula line or the Elizabeth line into the city?

It is clear this is a knee jerk proposal made without actually talking to public transport users.

I still dont understand what you are implying.
Is he Dutch or Australian?
Do other aspects of his background not count, only the part from the fathers surname?

If someone is a monarchist, can they only be people with an anglo surname?
Or if someone migrates to Australia, they cannot be a monarchist?
If someone is a British citizen living in the UK, they cannot be a monarchist if they have a surname from a country that has its own monarchy?

Having served in the Army for around a third of my life, I was supportive of the Queen. Her Majesty was the Captain-General and Colonel-Chief of several Australian Defence Force corps and the patron of several Australian Defence Force units.

But this stuff from the LNP is NUTSO !!!  :hg  :woz:

Cleveland Line

Whatever numbers the LNP now want to trumpet out of this are completely unreliable. You can 'sign' the petition with completely bogus details. There is no verification required.

Absolute sham.

Seriously infrurirating that this is what passes for representation these days...

As you said Ozbob, meanwhile the Cleveland Line languishes.

Perhaps if it was renamed?!  :bna:  :hg

With respect to my earlier question.

Can only people with Anglo surnames be monarchists?

verbatim9

Yeah, it's not really going along with normal naming conventions. People will be so confused with renaming the Sunshine coast and Gold lines to the Elizabeth line.

Naming the tunnel itself may be ok but not really necessary.

Gazza

Like you could call it the QE11 tunnel in the same way it's called the Merivale Bridge.

Do rail tunnels normally get names though?

Let's rename the new stations with names from the real Elizabeth line as well and completely confuse people.  Roma Street can be Liverpool Street as it's an interchange, Albert Street can be Tottenham Court Rd as it's central, Gabba can be Stratford because of the stadium, Exhibition can be Custom House due to the exhibition venue, Boggo Rd can be Bond Street because like Park Rd it's named for a nearby street.

As an aside I was amused on my first trip to London travelling on the Central line and hearing that Holland Park was the next station :)

Brisbanetimes --> Now is not the time to talk about the Elizabeth Line

QuoteSave for a few outliers, the Queen's death has been an apolitical affair in Australia.

Republicans mostly have been steadfast in their restraint, and those who haven't have been shot down quickly.

The Australian Republican Movement has paused all campaigning during the official mourning period, right at the moment Australians' minds are focused on the transfer of regal power.

Now is not the time to talk about our constitutional arrangements, we're told.

Now is not the time to talk about the chequered history of British colonialism in Australia.

Now is not the time to talk about our flag, or our currency.

Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, a republican, bristled at a question on Tuesday about who might replace the Queen on Australia's $5 note.

"I'm speaking about a funeral that will take place of Queen Elizabeth II next Monday and I'm being asked a question about her replacement on the $5 note," he said. "I think this is a time where a bit of respect is required."

A bit of respect, indeed. If only all sides of politics were so dignified.

It was more than a little ironic that the most brazen politicisation of the Queen's death would be spearheaded by one of the crown's most ardent defenders.

The Queensland LNP launched a petition on Wednesday to rename Cross River Rail the Elizabeth Line, in tribute to the dearly departed monarch.

It was a co-ordinated effort.

The elizabethline.com.au website was registered on Tuesday and Brisbane's News Corp newspaper ran the headline on Wednesday. An LNP blitz of breakfast television ensued.

The site was registered by Deputy Opposition Leader Jarrod Bleijie.

A proud and vocal monarchist, it was Bleijie who, as attorney-general, ensured the Queen's name would feature on Brisbane's new court complex on George Street (George Street, of course, being named for the Queen's ancestor, ensuring the royal family a near-monopoly on inner-city tributes).

If the opposition gets its way, a Brisbane commuter could catch the Elizabeth Line (one) to Albert Street Station (two), cross Charlotte (three), Elizabeth (four), Queen (five) and Adelaide (six) streets, walk across King George Square (seven) to turn left at Ann Street (eight), before turning right on to George Street (nine) to make their appointment at the Queen Elizabeth II Courts of Law (10).

That's a lot of tributes to one family within a 750-metre walk.  ...

Just a big blunder this by the LNP ...

Rail tunnels are usually known from their geographical location.  This is not formal as such, nothing stopping the CRR tunnels being named.  My suggestion would be the ' Meeanjin tunnels ', which is logical. This is independent of the network structure.  The lines will continue be to named as they are now.

In the spirit of renaming:

Gold Coast line = Paradise lost line

Beenleigh = Rum line

Caboolture = Survivor line

Cleveland = Yesterday's hero line

Ipswich = Go West line! Rosewood = Go further west line!

Airport line = Escape the madness line!

Doomben = Part time line

Ferny Grove = Brisbane Metro  :P

Sunshine Coast line = Stranded line

Shorncliffe line = You only want me for my body line

Springfield line = Doughnut line

Redcliffe Peninsula line = Bee Gees line
