Mr Strachan talked up Queensland Rails OTP, mentioned was bus at around 95%, but not the different timings of assessment and the fact that it is not reliable anyway.

Some increase in fixed fare adjustments, not surprising as folks now notice them more with the increased quantum, and more folks are checking their histories (which is a good thing).

Interview should be up on the 612 ABC Radio Spencer Howson Breakfast blog later this morning ..

Mr Matt Longland will be interim CEO, last day for Mr Strachan today.

Re: 380.  I don't think anyone new that the 382 leaving Roma St busway covers the same ground.  Assuming it was peak hour.

TransLink Tracker Quarter 4

Friday 14 October 2011

TransLink's Q4 2010/11 snapshot shows a public transport network continuing to bounce back strongly from the floods.

TransLink CEO Peter Strachan said the final TransLink Tracker for the financial year showed public transport was continuing to meet the growing needs of customers across South East Queensland.

"There were 178.6 million trips on the TransLink network in a year when the floods were estimated to have reduced patronage by about 6 million trips due to limited services and the eight days of free travel," Mr Strachan said.

"Peak train on-time running was 92.75 per cent for Q4 giving an annual figure of 93.07 per cent, above the benchmark of 93.01 per cent, a great result given some the challenges we've faced this year."

Bus on-time running of 95.23 for the quarter was well above the benchmark while customer complaints, and go card complaints and adjustment requests remained similar to previous quarters.

"go card continues to go from strength to strength, with 35.1 million bus, ferry and train trips using go card in Q4, compared with 27.4 million in the same quarter last year - representing 78.8 per cent of trips on the network," Mr Strachan said.

"Bus patronage has grown by four per cent in Q4 to end a year when we were able to deliver more than 305,000 extra weekly seats across South East Queensland, including 110,000 additional weekly seats on Brisbane buses."

Ferry numbers were down as terminals were being repaired and re-opened.

The comparative train data was also down 16 per cent due the phasing out of periodic tickets which relied on formulas and the more accurate data provided by go card.

"The old weekly paper tickets were counted as 11 trips," Mr Strachan said. "With go card, we're counting actual trips which gives us more accurate data.

"Overall customer satisfaction remained the same with the important 'Reliability and Frequency' measure generally maintaining higher levels when compared with the previous year.

"I'm looking forward to future customer satisfaction results, particularly as these levels were taken before the major timetable overhaul on the Sunshine Coast, Caboolture, Ipswich and Rosewood train lines."

Obviously, the failing fare structure has had an impact (see affordability page 13) ...

Even the touted bus patronage of 4%  increase contrasts starkly with stated service kilometre increase of around 20%.  Something amiss, but they don't mention that .. lol

The poor service frequency of rail is also biting ...

Seems to be a mistake.  Surely.  I cannot see that service km increased significantly.  120 & 196 BUZ were the only real improvements as I see it.

Opposition Statement

Fare affordability plummets under Bligh

Public transport affordability has crashed to a three year low under the Bligh government, the State Opposition said today.

LNP Shadow Minister for Transport Scott Emerson said the government released its own Translink Tracker for April to June 2011 which was further proof Labor's fare hikes were driving commuters away from public transport.

The latest report showed there were 1.7 million fewer train, bus and ferry  trips that quarter compared to the same quarter last year with commuters believing public transport is increasingly unaffordable.

"Fares have risen more than 30 percent in two years and are scheduled to rise a further 15 percent each year until 2014," Mr Emerson said.

"Labor is forcing commuters to pay for its financial mismanagement and the $100 million a week interest bill on its debt by hiking up public transport fares."

Mr Emerson said the latest Translink Tracker exposed Labor's con on Queenslanders when it tried to blame falling patronage on the floods. This latest survey covered disaster-free months and continued a trend started before the floods.

"There's no getting away from the fact patronage has collapsed two years in a row – and each drop triggered by a fare increase," Mr Emerson said.

"It's not surprising that GoCard complaints and adjustments are on the rise and that overall satisfaction with bus and rail has plummeted.

"The fare hikes aren't going back into better public transport services, they're going towards paying off the Bligh government's gross mismanagement of the State's budget and its $85 billion debt.

"This is a Labor government out of touch with the cost of living pressures on Queensland families and commuters.

"Only a CanDo LNP Government will cut waste and get action on the basics."

Ask yourself this question: After reading this, what exactly are they offering? 15 minute trains? More BUZ routes? Simplification of the network? That's right... no mention...

I will believe it when I see it printed in the timetable

Media release 15 October 2011

SEQ: The TransLink Tracker confirms failing fare structure

RAIL Back On Track (http://backontrack.org) a web based community support group for rail and public transport and an advocate for public transport passengers has highlighted the failing fare structure for public transport in south-east Queensland.

Robert Dow, Spokesman for RAIL Back On Track said:

"The latest TransLink Tracker for the last quarter of the 2010-11 financial year has again confirmed why the go card fare structure needs urgent enhancements (1)."

"As reported on page 13 of the Tracker affordability continues its downwards slide, and in turn patronage has fallen (2).  This is a perverse outcome.  A fare structure that encourages maximum public transport utilisation around the clock is needed."

"There is plenty of room to move within the constraints of the present fare structure on the go card.  For example off peak fares should be increased to at least 30% (presently 15%, planned to go to 20% January 2012).  Extension of the journey cap, and adjusting the threshold for the 50% fare reduction could also be easily implemented."

"It is essential that the community is not forced off public transport because of rapidly escalating fare increases.  The costs in terms of congestion, road trauma and its massive economic and social harms, and lessened environmental impacts are all compelling reasons to turn the fare tide and encourage people out of their cars."

"Clearly, it is time the authorities acted!"

I just skim read the q4 report and what jumped out at me was that graph about service kms... surely they didn't jump from 24 to 32 million kms in one quarter... that has to be incorrect.

And if it is not, then I wonder how much of that is peak and how much is off peak... that would impact on the above that Bob has raised... ie you're more likely to get a full bus in peak than offpeak, so your "bang" seems bigger, at least straight off the bat.

lol@SurfRail.  Spot on.  :-t  There is always something missing from an Opposition media statement attacking the government on [insert issue here].  It's a plan of action to put things right.  Therefore, how confident can people be in the Opposition's ability to government?

+1 for the Opposition Template.

Have to say a similar template for the current Qld State Government would include the words "WORLD CLASS" every few sentences or so.  :-t

Now arises the question of will Translink publicly correct the inaccurate and misleading information that has been presented to the public.

They said it would be corrected in the next Tracker.  (That kind of means "no".)
