Work has started on the final stage of the $1.6million Cubberla Creek bikeway.

The project is due for completion in the middle of the year and will include a 900m shared pathway link between Brushbox Court and Moggill Rd bus stop in Chapel Hill. The final stage of work will involve constructing a 3m-wide shared pathway between Rebecca St and Brushbox Court.

Earlier work delivered a 3m-wide shared pathway from the corner of Boblynne and Rebecca streets to the bus stop on Moggill Rd.

Lord Mayor Graham Quirk said the project, to improve the existing off-road cycle facilities, was about recognising the benefits active transport had on health and congestion reduction.

"The finished bikeway will link in with other facilities including the Mt Coot-tha Forest tracks, the Centenary Highway Bikeways and provide connection to local amenities such as Chapel Hill Primary School, Kenmore Plaza and local parks,'' he said.

"It will also have great benefits for the local community by providing increased safety.''
