For the price of a TransLink paper ticket - also takes prebookings.  You can turn up on the day, provided that seats are available. Go cards not accepted on the Bundaberg Tilt Train service for those going to Gympie.

Morning service (ex Bundaberg) leaves Gympie North at 7:05am, and afternoon service (Bundy Tilt) departs Roma Street at 4:55pm.

More train travel options for Gympie commuters

Craig Warhust - Gympie Times

GYMPIE region commuters will have more train travel options to and from Brisbane as of next week through a trial to integrate the Bundaberg Tilt Train with the south-east Queensland train network.

The six-month trial offers a special commuter fare on the Bundaberg Tilt Trains, opening up two additional services each week day between Gympie, Cooroy and Brisbane for the same price as a TransLink paper ticket.

Regular train traveller and Member for Gympie, David Gibson, yesterday welcomed the special fare.

"Gympie will benefit from these changes by having the increased flexibility to catch an additional daily train either departing Gympie North or returning from the City at the City Train fare," he said.

I wonder why Go Cards can't be used though?  Are they worried people will travel beyond Gympie North? >:D

Fares_Fair

Great news for sure.
Just wonder why no access to Nambour for medical services there.

Managing people using the service (boarding and disembarking policies eg Northbound services at Caboolture only accepts passengers boarding otherwise the doors remain locked and closed. Southbound services at Caboolture only accepts passengers exiting the service) I assume would be the most likely reason. Purchased tickets show proof of purchase and staff onboard can easily check where they intend on going. Boarding could also be sped up eg passengers wait at carriage number X where a member of staff can check tickets or deny access etc.

You are also getting a higher quality service so expect to pay that little bit more :P

Don't really see the need to book if most of the time it will be empty anyway

My suggestion would be perhaps a "set down only" arrangement for the morning inbound, and "pick up only" arrangement for the afternoon outbound at Nambour could suffice for TransLink paper ticket holders from Gympie North or Cooroy on the Tilt train?

Similar to the Caboolture/Landsborough Pick-Up/Set-Down only arrangements on the Tilt Trains.

The Electric Tilts are actually quite well patronised in the most part, especially during school holidays. Platform 10 is generally quite crowded when the Tilt is due..

There is a good pub (the Victory) within 1km walk of the Gympie North railway station.  In fact, I think kind people have constructed a bush walking track between the two.  Alternative is the courtesy bus into town (no need to use go-card).  It delivers and picks up around the various rail services as they come and go through Gympie North.

Looking at mid July at this time for a trip to the wild north Gympie ..

Nearly forgot, but this reminded me: The Ferny Grove tavern has finally re-opened (Wednesday last week) for those that are that way inclined.

It is great to see it is now extended to Nambour, it wasn't originally included.

I raised this question in our last CRG meeting, and for Landsborough.

It is good news for Gympie North and Cooroy and now Nambour to city travellers.

Great to see it extended to Nambour.  At least it gives Gympie and Cooroy travellers options for medical appointments in Nambour.

As for Landsborough, as much as it would be nice, it doesn't need the service, as it's only 1 hour from Roma Street.   Plus existing arrangements for the Tilt Train services at Landsborough only allows passenger pick-ups heading  Northbound (towards Bundaberg), and set-down only for Southbound services (towards Brisbane).  I personally can't see that changing anytime soon.

There are plenty of existing services for passengers at Landsborough to catch (departing every 25-30mins during morning peak) with seats available on the inbound journey.

G'day Arnz,

1.5 hours to Landsborough, 1 hour to Caboolture on the Petrie to Northgate expresses.
I understand, and agree with you.
Cheers.  :)

In regards to food and drinks on the train, why not just repeal the law against eating and drinking on the trains here in SE Qld?  There's no problems with it down south, including heaps of cafes and food and drink machines available at the major stations in Sydney and Melbourne where you are allowed to eat and drink on the train with no risk of getting a fine, barring alcohol of course.

Seven Local News clip from April 2013 on the Tilt Train trial (with TL paper tickets).

At least some of the local media were informed from back then.

Nambour has never been mentioned as eligible for the special fare, anywhere, ever, before yesterday.
I raised this fact in our last CRG meeting, and asked why it did not include Nambour.

I have commented on the Seven Facebook promo so that the facts are out there.

The Member for Gympie, David Gibson, has been a friend of passenger rail, having fought on behalf of constituents for extension of the daytime Cooroy service to Gympie -- and it has proved popular.  However, he has announced that he will not be standing for the next state election.

Nominations for the new LNP candidate have closed and it remains to be seen who will be chosen.

In any event, the LNP will be eager to gain profile for its new man / woman.  We should consider what transport-related issues this person could champion -- maybe a rail track realignment study north of Nambour in conjunction with the ARTC management investigation.

Refurbishment of all the ICE trains, which service Gympie North, would be welcome.
