Regional Australia Committee issues key FIFO report

Today the House Regional Australia Committee issued its report into the impact of the fly-in, fly-out, drive-in, drive-out workforce in Regional Australia.

The report highlights an issue that is having a widespread effect on regional Australia and calls for action from governments at all levels and industry to address what the inquiry has heard called 'the cancer of the bush'.

The report makes 21 recommendations to Government and 14 suggestions to industry that, if accepted, can build stronger inland regional communities alongside a strong resources industry.

Committee Chair Tony Windsor said "it is a pro-regional Australia report that calls for the mining industry to value regional Australia as much as regional Australia values the industry as a major employer and contributor to the wealth of this nation. I hope the Government and industry can work collaboratively to fix an issue that is causing serious problems in some country towns."
