Changes to school bus services

--> http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/details/1358821122

============

Quite a few changes ...

QuoteThese changes have been developed in response to student enrolments and to improve existing services.

Benefits include:

    improvements to safety
    reduced overcrowding
    more efficient services.

How can I find out if my child's school bus has changed?

Contact your local school bus operator who can advise if there are any changes to your child's current service or recommend an alternative.
Which services will change?

Some Brisbane Transport, Hornibrook Bus Lines, Park Ridge Transit and Surfside Bus Lines school bus services will change on Tuesday 29 January.

Changes may include minor route adjustments, timing changes and stop removals.

Contact your local school bus operator for details.

Interesting diversion for  the 359. I'm guessing it will turn left from South Pine Rd onto Griffith St & Burwood Rd then return to reduce overcrowding from KG students on 390 and provide a quicker connection to Brookside for Mt Maria junior students to replace the truncated 774.

I don't like variations like this one.  Will it then do an enormous loop to get back on the route?

I hope common sense prevails and it does a quick loop around to Brookside via Griffith/Burrows St and back (~5 mins) and then back onto the usual route. Mt. Maria Students formerly using 360 would transfer at Brookside. Anything more would be hell if you're doing the City - Albany Creek commute.

I still think 5 mins is 5 mins too much.

Variations suck.  Means there is an underlying design flaw somewhere (although more often than not it would be urban form and therefore difficult to fix).

BT and TransLink need to look at allowing more private operators to perform government contract school runs in the BCC area.  It makes little sense that so much of the BT fleet, all of which is serviceable for regular route service, is committed to school runs.  Other operators generally have school-run specific vehicles to do this work, which are usually cheaper to supply than an urban bus.

I'd like to know what is influencing the change.

Realistically, Mt. Maria Jr has the 360 which covers the same ground as the 774 in Everton Hills, and the train for those who want to go straight to Mitchelton (Are parents kicking up a stink about the 5 min walk from the station? Is there a connecting bus they miss?).

But then again it may have nothing to do with Mt. Maria or KG at all...
