Headed off to watch Indy Jones XXIV at Indooroopilly last night so caught the 5.20pm from Oxley to Indooroopilly and back again later that night.

1. Train arrived at Oxley from the City around 5.15pm - I counted 37 people who walked down the subway tunnel, only 2 had gocard touches, and now at oxley there is only one touch point, so there was also 20 - 30 people walking the opposite direction towards the carpark none of which walked the opposite way back towards the subway to use a gocard to touch off (summary in a group of 50 - 70 commuters departing from one peak time train, only 2 commuters used a gocard) Oxley is a zone 1-3 station for rail. (If I want to catch a bus from Oxley to Inala Civic Centre with Inala actually sharing a common suburb boundary I actually travel in Zone 4 Oxley to Zone 5 Inala but that is another whole complicated mess with the current zonal system)

2. The new platform works at Indooroopilly is great in the dry but it actually rained in Brisneyland last night and while waiting at the platform for the train I noticed a bit of a design flaw with the raising of the platform at each of the track sides - this leaves a gully in the middle with the newly laid black tar. This gully means that despite the platform being 90% covered by roof the rainwater basically flows inwards looking to find the lowest point. Depending on the amount of rain coming down this may result in 100% of the platform tarmac covered in water with rivers/streams of water flowing towards drains, which may or may not work (some weren't working last night). Not too bad last night but basically if you are waiting on the platform you can't leave anything on the ground when it's raining because while the roof protects you from the rain falling from the sky you are exposed to the water rising from below.

Thanks for that information Mozz, very interesting. There is very heavy rain forecast tomorrow afternoon/evening.  I might have to head off to Indooroopilly station to have a look Mozz!  Do you think the drainage system looks finished?  Did you happen to check out the subway, I understand there has been problems with that before in the wet?

I might wear my gumboots!   :-r

Bob - the rain wasn't heavy so subway was fine, drainage seemed to be finished, as the new black tarmac is fresh and fully laid.

The platform is definitely not flat anymore with a very distinct valley/gully in the middle which just catches the rain and channels it. The issue is that pretty much the whole platform is covered under roof but when it rains, the platform is soaked and will have running water flowing around the feet of commuters.

Stopped off at Indooroopilly station this morning on the way in.

Light rain falling overnight, water is pooling on the platform 1 side. It seems to drain down from the platform 2 side ok.
Would be major pools of water in moderate to heavy rain for sure.  Water seems to collect under the central seats too ... :-w

Some photographs (all platform 1 side), poor light.

Nice new signs!
