THE NSW Minister Of Transport Gladys Berejiklian was reviewing the outcomes of a study into the viability of the Murwillumbah to Casino rail line.

Ms Berejiklian said it was "sensible that the government does its homework before undertaking major projects."

"The NSW Government has made significant progress on this issue," she said.

"Two million dollars has been allocated to a study to investigate the current and future transport needs of people living and working in the Casino to Murwillumbah area.

"Led by project director Tim Poole, the Casino-Murwillumbah Transport Study is assessing the benefits, impacts and costs of feasible transport options.

"Of course, the findings will be made public as soon as possible."

Trains on Our Tracks (TOOT) president Karin Kolbe said last week that the study was overdue with the group expecting the outcomes in the lead up to Christmas.

"As far as I know the government is still considering it," she said last week.

"They have always said it would be finished by the end of the year (2012)."

Half baked projects, have long term consequences ...

Nice to have, but simply rebuilding the old line as it was, a 2nd grade branch line is not I believe the best outcome for Taxpayers.
It's a terrible outcome, in fact!  This line is a complete waste of money.  Just run a few buses to Casino where you can meet the XPT while it's still here.

Even the XPT has a hard time making the business case for its replacement stick, and it won't be around for too much longer.

I expect that TOOT has not once called for the local bus services to be improved.  They are wretchedly bad and are much easier and cheaper to fix than an ancient relic like the Mur'bah line.
