And there's a good range of extra services too.  150 is running every 15 minutes until about 3am for example.

I think this is pretty good.

petey3801

Yeah, a lot of extra trains as well, with trains running hourly all night after around 0100-0200 or so.

Wow, that's a lot of routes getting plenty of extra services at night, when its really needed. Imagine the chaos if we forced everyone to drive with all that partying!

NYE public transport options - comment

Greetings,

In another excellent move TransLink have announced that all travel on TransLink service will be free of charge from 9pm New Years Eve (31 Dec 2012)  until 5.30am (1 Jan 2013).

http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/details/1350523725  A minor suggestion would be make travel free  from say 6pm, rather than 9pm to allow people from further regions a better option.

None the less, this  free travel initiative will help to get people of our dangerous congested roads.

All the major operators of public transport have additional services  to help people get home after the new year celebrations.  Details of which are on the TransLink web site ( http://jp.translink.com.au/travel-information/service-updates/details/1350523725 ).

Maximum publicity should be given to the free travel for New Year.  Far better to travel by public transport than risk it on the nightmare which is the roads ...

Best wishes
Robert

Greetings,

Contrast the approaches:

Melbourne  Victoria ... including explicit instructions for myki users ...

Free public transport on Christmas Day and after 6pm on New Year's Eve
Date Published: Thursday 29 November 2012

You can travel free on Victoria's public transport network from first to last service on Christmas Day (25 December 2012) and after 6pm on New Year's Eve (31 December 2012) until the first normal scheduled service on New Year's Day (1 January 2013).

On New Year's Eve, metropolitan trains, trams and NightRider buses will run all night to get you home. Trains and trams will run to a normal weekday timetable with extra services to and from the city.

There will be free travel on V/Line services that arrive in, or depart from, Melbourne after 6pm on New Year's Eve. There will also be free travel on the first service departing Melbourne on each line on New Year's Day.

On free travel days, metropolitan ticket barriers will be open at all stations. Customers who accidentally touch on with a myki won't be charged a fare.

V/Line passengers who accidentally buy tickets can apply for a refund.

Customers who accidently validate their Metcard are not entitled to a refund.

Little wonder  Brisbane is being left behind in the liveability stakes ..

Best wishes
Robert

Minister for Transport and Main Roads
The Honourable Scott Emerson

Free travel for New Year's and Brisbane International

The Newman Government is making it easier for families and revellers to celebrate this New Year's Eve with free travel home across the entire South East Queensland public transport network.

Transport and Main Roads Minister Scott Emerson said revellers would be able to travel for free between 9pm New Year's Eve and 5.30am New Year's Day.

"With events happening right across the region, New Year's Eve is one of the busiest nights on our network with 500,000 people travelling to enjoy the night," Mr Emerson said.

"There will be more than 1100 extra services operating across South East Queensland, giving people even more of a reason to leave the car at home.

"In Brisbane, hundreds of extra buses, trains and ferries will operate at regular intervals up until midnight into Brisbane's CBD, allowing celebrators to get an early vantage point around the river.

"To make sure everyone gets home safely, buses will continue to depart after midnight from the Brisbane CBD and Valley precincts. CityCats will run into the early morning."

Passengers can also take advantage of additional trains operating on the Beenleigh, Gold Coast, Ferny Grove, Ipswich, Richlands, Shorncliffe and Sunshine Coast lines.

Extra bus services will also operate on the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, with many services operating on extended hours after midnight.

Due to the fireworks, ferry services to the inner-City and South Bank terminals will be suspended from around 8.20pm until 8.45pm and from 11.55pm until 12.15am. The QUT Gardens Point ferry terminal will be closed from 6pm.

Mr Emerson said fans attending the Brisbane International tennis tournament and hold a pre-purchased event ticket would be able to travel free on all Brisbane Transport buses and Queensland Rail trains.

"Off-peak trains on the Gold Coast line will make a special stop at Yeerongpilly train station with complimentary maxi taxis available for customers with disabilities to the tennis precinct," he said.

"Extra shuttle buses will run from Corinda train station on the Ipswich/Rosewood and Richlands lines."

For more information or to plan your trip, visit the www.translink.com.au, or call 13 12 30, anytime.

^ Interestingly, the advice previously given was that the Yeerongpilly stop for Gold Coast trains was not happening this time.  Nice to see common sense prevails, at least for as long as those pesky Park Road terminators still only go that far (and don't exist on weekends).
