Double-decker bus a first for the Sunshine Coast

SUNBUS will take public transport to new heights this summer with the launch of the first ever double-decker bus on the Sunshine Coast public bus network.

The Sunbus double-decker will service a number of the most popular local routes including the 600 and 615.

"The Sunbus double-decker is a first for the Sunshine Coast. We invite everyone on the Sunshine Coast to come and enjoy the travel experience and the amazing views; from the locals who use our service year-round to the tourists who use our bus network to visit all the Sunshine Coast has to offer," Sunbus Operations Manager Brett Lee said today.

The double-decker will operate on the Sunshine Coast from Monday December 3 until the February 1 courtesy of Transit Australia Group, parent company of Sunbus.

Transit Australia Group, a wholly owned Queensland company also manufactured the bus through their company BusTech, a world class bus manufacturer.

"The Sunbus double-decker is one of only two of its kind in Australia, and has been developed and manufactured by the award winning BusTech. The technology is state-of-the-art and seats 96 passengers in absolute comfort," Mr Lee said.

"This double-decker is a great example of the commitment Transit Australia Group and Sunbus have to the Sunshine Coast. We continue to invest heavily into the public transport system on the Sunshine Coast to deliver a safe and efficient bus network."

Passengers wishing to experience the Sunbus double-decker can see all routes and timetables on the Sunbus website.

They can also travel on the bus for free as part of council's Free Holiday Buses program, which is on again from Boxing Day to 6 January.

Loaned from sister company Surfside Buslines on the Gold Coast, bus 351.  It'll be sticking around until February and should be in service on Monday.

While it may be a first that a Double Decker is put on regular urban services, an interesting fact that it's not the first time a double-decker has plying trade on the Sunshine Coast.  A previous company (Sunshine Coast Coaches) which had the school and urban contract in the pre-Sunbus days of the early 90s had 2x ex-Sydney Atlanteans on School services.  I remember riding on them myself on School Charters.
