Pacific National expands Nebo facility

The Newman Government has welcomed Pacific National Coal's plans to invest an additional $20 million to expand its Nebo Train Maintenance facility in regional Queensland.

Minister for Transport and Main Roads Scott Emerson and Member for Mirani Ted Malone said the expansion was a further sign of confidence in central Queensland's coal export market.

"The new facility will enable additional Pacific National's coal trains to link central Queensland coal fields and the port," Mr Emerson said.

"A range of functions will take place at the facility including the refuelling of trains, routine train inspections and rolling stock maintenance.

"The expansion project will include the construction of an additional Unit Train Maintenance road and storage road."

Member for Mirani Ted Malone said the project had been fast tracked following an agreement with coal producer BMA to provide maintenance and daily servicing for BMA's four new train sets when they arrive in the second half of 2013.

"Pacific National Coal's multimillion dollar investment shows how a major corporation can work with the local community to drive growth," Mr Malone said.

"Pacific National Coal's development will provide 50 to 100 jobs during construction and about 65 positions when completed next year."

Pacific National Coal is the fastest growing coal haulage operator in Queensland and currently transports export coal to the Dalrymple Bay Coal Terminal, the Port of Gladstone and Port of Abbott.
