No go public transport

The Queensland Government is advertising this weekend for a chief executive to head its now Translink transit authority and we hope that whoever the lucky recruit turns out to be knows the universal qualities expected of a good public transport service - convenience and reliability. Right now, the Government is providing neither.  While technical gremlins plague the go card system, frustrated public transport users might have expected the Government to rewarded their patience by showing some flexibility while the new system's problems are ironed out. But it's no go on the score, too. Next they will be blaming commuters for going back to their cars. Did someone say carbon tax?

There is real concern in the community with the lack of proper resourcing for public transport, the bias to non-sustainable road funding which is now starting to be exposed as fuel prices rapidly escalate, and not least the disastrous roll out of the go card.

No amount of spin is going to cover the fact the roll-out of the go card has been botched.
There are solutions.  See here --> http://backontrack.org/mbs/index.php?topic=880.msg3871#msg3871

It is time they swallowed some pride and brought in the user community, fix it and move forwards.

Lets hope the new executive manager of Translink understands public transport from all points of view.
