go card for visitors

Visiting South East Queensland?

go card provides the most convenient way to travel on TransLink's network of buses, trains and ferries and explore South East Queensland. To make travelling easy for visitors to Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sunshine Coast, go card now comes with visitor information and handy travel tips.
TransLink's go card visitor information packs each include:

a map of TransLink's train and bus network
useful tips on how to use TransLink's bus, train and ferry services
a list of top things to see and do in each of the Brisbane, Sunshine Coast and Gold Coast regions
a destination map showing how you can travel and explore the regions using your go card
a guide to using your go card.

Buy a go card

go card is your ticket to seamless travel across the entire TransLink network of bus, train and ferries. go card is at least 30 per cent cheaper than the cost of a single paper ticket. It's an inexpensive and environmentally friendly way to explore South East Queensland.

Buy your go card:

    At selected retail locations.
Online, then download your visitor information pack.

Download the visitor information packs for:

    Brisbane (PDF, 1.42MB)
    Sunshine Coast (PDF, 1.25MB)
    Gold Coast (PDF, 1.12MB)

I think the info could be improved a bit.  The Brisbane one should spell out that the Go Card can be bought/cashed in at Domestic, International and Roma St.  Gold Coast one should mention the "Gold Coast Tourist Shuttle Desk" where Go Card can be bought/cashed in.

Also the refund conditions should be explained rather than referred to.

I'm somewhat bemused by the fact the Gold Coast one doesn't identify the theme parks as major landmarks, or mention the TX bus routes.

Also tells people to get a 702 from Burleigh to Pac Fair when it doesn't stop there...

Very very shitty use of maps imo. Especially the Brisbane one. Mt Cootha lookout is in Queen Street? Nothing telling people how to get to Suncorp Stadium. Next to no info on The Gabba. What about getting to the Convention centre? Cudos on the "walk from Roma Street Station" for option two wtf-haha. The Roma Street Railway Station/Roma Street busway station/Transit Centre area could have been drawn better along with removing the exhibition line as it gives the impression that it has its own seperate line going towards the Parklands. RSBS/KGSBS/QSBS aren't the same as other busway locations. Why are the busways left off the map as it gives the impression that they just use road side stops. The Sunshine Coast/Gold Coast arrows makes it appear that they are just up the road  :conf

The Go Card machine at Brisbane Domestic Airport DOESN'T spit out go cards.
Furthermore, airtrain ticket is only valid to TRAIN stations, NONE of the busway stations or anything else. If you don't live near a train station, you're stuffed!

Negative people... have a problem for every solution. Posts are commentary and are not necessarily endorsed by RAIL Back on Track or its members.

I think you can buy them from the ticket window though.

Firstly, why is Fortitude Valley Station still named Brunswick Street on the map???  :o

There are some interesting ways to get to things shown here... yes, let's catch a 202 from Elizabeth Street to get to the Botanic Gardens. It's leaves every hour (outside peak). Much better than the 10 minute walk from Elizabeth Street!  :-r

In spite of the flaws, at least telling people they can buy a Go Card and get a full refund when they leave is a good thing!

There was a TMR-issued airport access guide which suggested the best way to catch public transport from the Redlands to the airport was to catch (if I remember correctly) a 241 to Capalaba (when it was still going there) and a 265 to the city, then a train to the airport.

Probably exactly what the JP told them, and yet so utterly bollocks.

Very true. I have a mate who had rellies from across the ditch coming to visit. He didn't realise he could get them a go card and refund the deposit when they left.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

The BrizCommuter word on yet another TransLink epic fail.
I have NEVER seen a reasonable argument as to why there should be a periodical for anyone as compared to a lower initial fare.

1. It attracts people to using public transport more frequently
2. It attracts people to using public transport more frequently
3. It attracts people to using public transport more frequently

By the way, prior to the 9/10 journey cap, quite a few public servants known to BrizCommuter would take a taxi between meetings. Now as it doesn't cost any extra for them to use public transport, they take the bus between meetings instead. This is saving the tax payer $$$ in taxi fares.

somebody

That is only a reasonable argument if the extra trips exceed the extra trips from just setting the fares lower.

HappyTrainGuy

Sorry, this is my opinion but the claim that more public servants are catching busses instead of taxis is a load of bull. For some it might be but depending on what their job is and their location is can easily throw that claim right out the window. Case in point public health servents at the Prince Charles Hospital.

In an ' open and transparent ' world, we would have information on the corporate go cards as to how well they are actually being used.  But all that is a state secret ...

Quote.. the corporate
go card was taken up by 25 private and
public organisations in 2011-12, with
518 cards now in use on the network.

Yes, they should be using the corporate go cards.  Perhaps they are catching the bus to take advantage of the loophole inherent in the current fare structure.

Really? BrizCommuter has a meeting at Herston, with public servants from the Prince Charles Hospital a few weeks ago Herston, and they used the Northern Busway services to get to/from the meeting.

Obviously, location does limit the number of public servants that can use bus over taxi.

A maxi taxi may have been cheaper?

Maybe depending on where they are based at the Prince Charles Hospital, how many and the transit time (Westfield Chermside-RBWH is about 8-15 mins by car with traffic - if its thick dive into the Airport Link tunnel and use the Northley Street exit near RBWH). Prince Charles Hospital is a pretty big place. If they are based on the northern side of the hospital it would help to catch the 340 but if they work where the majority does in the southern end then they have to choose from the hourly 325/335. Although I must say getting paid to sit on a 325/335 for 40+ mins each way aint bad  :hg

Since most of the buses are city focused I doubt there would be any heading out to Brighton.... although they have just announced that they plan to close that down. None would be going to the Bracken Ridge facility by PT that's for sure. Zillmere... maybe via the 330 but accessing the 330 timewise is the issue. The Aspley facility on Zillmere road is close for the 335 but the 340 is a hell of a walk to access. I don't see many of them making the trip to Enoggera.
