Heard of some problems getting people to the 10KM start on time. Some buses not arriving until well after the race had already started. So late that the equipment at the start line was already packed up so competitors were unable to officially start the race and were effectively disqualified.

Buses to the 5KM start were also arriving right up until start time.

It is unfortunate but can't be helped, I guess.

Happens every year. BrizCommuter has heard reports in previous years of bus drivers getting lost and/or getting stuck in congestion. To be honest, the Bridge to Brisbane now has too many competitors to organise well (given the starting point being in the middle of nowhere), and too many competitors getting in the way to get a good 10k time.

This gets 40000 people - half the city to surf.  So what's your plan?  Public transport has too much trouble moving a lot of people so more cars might do it better?

Agreed, why is it any worse than a Lions game?

To be fair, the City2Surf start is within walking distance of Central and City Circle stations. It's much easier to bring a mass of people to the centre of your radial transport network than it is to send them to a far extremity. Brisbane's transport network brings far more than 40000 people to the CBD with relative ease every weekday morning. Turn the Bridge to Brisbane into Brisbane to Bridge and transport would be improved.

Clearly, it will never happen. There is something unappealing about running toward a great big concrete bridge.

It isn't? There are more than a few bus loads of spectators arrive late to a Lions game. The only difference is that the consequences are somewhat less for a spectator.

The answer is in your post. City to Surf. It starts in the CBD, well served by public transport. Return is less of a problem as everyone does not finish at once (unlike the start where they all start at once).

That's not the only factor.  City2Surf starts at 8am.  The 10km event for b2b starts at 6:10am.  Far more regularly scheduled trips have arrived for the NSW event, but it has quite a number of specials too.

Surely the PT performance regarding Bridge to Brisbane isn't really acceptable.  E.g. there are no services from the Caboolture or Shorncliffe lines.  Not sure why you seem to be lumping it in the "too hard" basket.
