QuoteIf you don't credit for reverse trips, how are you going to credit for the second leg of V shaped journeys?
Its an annoying one, because V shaped journeys do happen.

Taigum to Bracken Ridge via Sandgate (326)
Those Chermside Community Buses (336/337)
The 338 has some massive detours
Every Thompson bus service in Strathpine/Warner/Bray Park/Lawnton takes a long scenic tour

Then comes the issue: What bus do I get. Do I get on the 335 from Chermside to get to Prince Charles Hospital or do I get the 325. It could work but it will be a bitch of a system to setup compared to the current system.
What we meant was V shaped journeys with an interchange at the bottom of the V.

I don't know how the system charges now if someone goes from A to B, gets off for 10min then returns back to A. Going by my father in law's experience travelling from Loganlea to Aucanflower for a 10min medical procedure every week, he pretty much got the return trip for free.
That's correct.

Zonal or distance, the methode would be the same.

2nd leg of V is easy, you get off at a different location. If I travel from Yerongpilly to Corinda via rail via RS, the trip should be charged as if I went direct via bus (or direct rail until last year). Zonal or distance, its the same. Issue is with Zonal its possible this is within same zone and its actually cheaper.
The problem comes about is when an interchange is made such that the second leg would result in a negative charge.  If the negative charge is credited then you are refunding people for making a return journey within the transfer window.  If not, then there are other inequities, such as Mt Ommaney-Sth Bris-Yeronga West.

Simon, regarding bus stop naming. Thanks, but get back to me when they have them all done.
I think they have.  Some of them have fairly ordinary names, like Harts Rd 24, with Harts Rd 25 up the road.

Not sure what the problem is.  Perhaps private operator areas.

It's a much bigger issue outside of Brisbane, where TransLink arbitrarily decided they were going to only put in a basic bus stop flag for certain less busy stops.

On the directness or not of journeys, a distance based system really would not do much to change that.  TransLink design the network, and they love indirect services (except down here - when GCCC so much as even hints that a bus should stop inside a shopping centre so people can actually go there, like the Super Q Centre on the 747, they get smacked down).

For the V journey's. I assume you mean if person went from Point A to Point B (say 10km), got off did something like quick appointment then got back on quickly and went to point C, which was say 1km from Point A. They only get charged from going from A to C directly.
Correct, that's the issue I am referring to.

Golliwog

For the V type trips, to make it a bit more like the current zonal set up, couldn't you set it to charge you for whatever the furthest point away from your start point was?

So in rtt's example below, they'd get charged for travelling 10km from A to B, but then B to C is free because you're heading back towards A. Though that would, in effect, give you something like the zonal system we have now, but centered on your start point, so you could start at Indooroopilly, go to Bowen Hills, then come back out and make it to Darra before you'd pay any extra.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

What if you went from Yerongpilly to Central, saw you had a 25min wait for a train to Corinda, then went and got a drink out of station and came back and went to Corinda. As crow flys your trip was about 5km. But all up around 40km.

You'd be choosing to do that.  The alternative is to catch the 104 which doesn't require a trip via the city.
