$200 Million for Station Upgrades...How it went.

So, I was thinking about this on the way home, but I'm interested in making a list categorising how station upgrades went.
There has been much comment on the way some station upgrades kind of wasted money on cosmetic stuff, meanwhile stations still linger without good disabled access.

Im thinking of 3 categories.

High 'Value' upgrade. This would involve things like lift installations/platform raising at previously inacessible stations.
Narangba
Alderley
Sandgate

Medium 'Value' upgrade. I'm kind of two minds about the worth of these upgrades, but they are ones where the station was already acessible, but changes have been made in response to the stations pax numbers or 'importance' in the network. What are peoples thoughts on ones like this?
South Brisbane
Eagle Junction

Low 'Value' upgrade. This is for upgrades which have not provided accessibility, and are cosmetic.
Corinda
Taringa
Toowong

Obviously an incomplete list, but how would we categorise the 50 stations targeted?

SurfRail

South Brisbane involved platform raising (so did improve accessibility, plus it really was tatty before for an inner city station), and Eagle Junction involves no raising and already has lifts.

Toowong barely even qualifies since all they did was strip back and refurbish the concourse (barely).

I guess for me the main focus is getting people into the station in the first place. Obviously platform raising has big advantages, and when installing lifts you'd do it at the same time.

I know, but its one of the "50" as part of the program, and is soaking up some of he $200 million.

I'm just trying to get a picture of what went where.
There doesn't seem to be a list of the 50 stations with upgrades on the QR site...can anyone help?

Strathpine had the station office refurbished incl toilets, a band new and closer bus stop at the cost of parking spots... Cement and footpath, extra lighting, backlit timetables, translink platform number/info signs, park and ride resurfaced and some trackwork. Same with Zillmere. Improved lighting, backlit timetables, new bike lockers, station office refurbed incl toilets, additional CCTV, improved access to the Gympie road side (wider access), landscaping incl drainage. Toombul had work done on the elevators IIRC.

On the Ferny Grove line, there is the obvious upgrade of FG itself (though pretty sure funding for that was part of the duplication, not the $200M station upgrade program) which is raising platforms, and made the ramp up to the platform a lower grade (I think) and got rid of the pedestrian access actually crossing the tracks.

Mitchelton recently had a few notices up about improving signage? Not sure what exactly they were changing, but it would be purely cosmetic. Enoggera got a wheelchair accessible ticket window installed, and a resurfaced platform (pretty sure this was to make it smoother and reduce ponding when it rains), Brizcommuter would know more. Newmarket also got a mostly cosmetic upgrade with the gardens out the front redone. Fairly sure they did something with the underpass, though it's still just stairs. Not sure what else.
There is no silver bullet... but there is silver buckshot.
Never argue with an idiot. They'll drag you down to their level and beat you with experience.

Marooka-Fairfield got new fencing and landscaping works done.

The same contractor has been given the job for Central, Beenleigh and a few others.

Do you know what signage is actually being changed? I was waiting for a train at Mitchelton so I asked the QR person at the station, but they didn't know anything.

It's meant to be more or less everything, going from when I read the tender.  Wayfinding, information, station name lightboxes if they aren't already in the current format (some are but the wording is in a smaller font and italicised from the first version of it) etc.  They have already replaced some of the signage at Central around the Shrine in ANZAC Square.  All according to TransLink spec.

In other words, the maroon/white signage is being replaced with the orange and grey stuff.

Are there any major installations (with lifts) I have missed?

Mozz

Oxley has a lift from subway to platform 1 and 2. Incidentally after 3 or so years of station upgrades, in July they started another 5 month project to resurface platforms 1 and 2 which should be finished by November 2012. I almost suspect that once they finish this latest project, in January 2013 they will return to start the major effort of fixing the broken subway... properly this time.

Aha, how could I forget Oxleys upgrades. Added!

HappyTrainGuy

Bray Park doesn't have steep ramps as the land on both sides are above the platform height.

Gazza

I was just going by the network map.

I think the first list should be pretty much right for the time being and I think come 2022 they would just pass the test. Though I think obvious ones like Auchenflower and Loganlea need to be upgraded because of their proximity to Hospitals, and Wooloowin and Albion because those stations serve all lines except for GC/AP.

For the rest of them, I understand they might hold off and do them with future amplifications...But IMO any stations on quad tracks, any on the Shorncliffe and Ferny Grove have no reason to be delayed.

Arnz

and FG as well ;)

I think the ones with No Access and depending on patronage levels, the busier ones should upgraded first, IMO.

Quoteand FG as well
Not part of the $200 Mil progam, it was done out of the duplication budget as far as I know.

Was talking about Albion and Wooloowin being served by all lines except GC/AP.  I just only pointed out that it's not served by FG.  My mistake for not pointing it out clearer.

Can't you reach 3 without a lift, even if you're in a wheelchair?

Indeed, there is a compliant ramp up to #3 from the Subway.

For reference: http://www.queenslandrail.com.au/AllStations/Documents/queensland-rail-station-access-guide_0811.pdf

Has a list of all stations in SEQ detailing the type of access available (Independent, Assisted, or Stairs). In terms of access it details access to inbound/outbound platforms, as well as between platforms (eg: Alderley is Stairs access as each platform is accessible via paths, but only stairs between the two). It also lists off if the stations have help phones, tactile edges, an electronic timetable, hearing loops, an accessible toilet, accessible parking as well as if the station has high level platforms.
