AN 81-year-old man was "clipped" by a train at Caboolture station this morning, a Queensland Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

He was rushed to Caboolture Hospital with severe injuries and in an "altered state of consciousness", she said.

The QAS spokeswoman said the man was in a critical but stable condition.

It is believed he was standing too close to the edge of the platform as the train entered the station about 11.30am.

Most unfortunate incident.  I have noticed a strong campaign on the CBD stations encouraging passengers to stand well clear of the platform, behind the yellow lines.  Also special announcements just before arrival at Indooroopilly as well reminding passengers of the narrow platform and the need to remain behind the lines during the construction period.

While the incident is unfortunate, he only has himself to blame.  Sorry if I sound callous, but I see far to many people ignoring the yellow line.  Perhaps this will act as a wake-up call - but then the incident with the guy in the wheelchair last year didn't seem to help.

I feel sorry for the family members and train drivers who are the innocent victims of people's carelessness.
